I just found your channel and am working on my second gourd. My second chapter in life is to be a gourd artist (Been an architect for 40 years). Your skill and instructions are masterful. Thank you.
I love to watch your videos! I started teaching myself how to Woodburn a little and started some carving but life has intervened so now I just get to watch you and I’m loving it! I’m learning so much from you thank you very much!
Really mesmerizing to watch you work in those details. Your skills are AMAZING! I am a little short on patience so I think pyrography could help me with that. I love black and white photography, too. Thanks for all your tips. We learn most from our mistakes so thanks for showing the "too dark" part, too.
Wonderful! I love the wood burning process. As you said, it is a very calming activity. I look forward to learning to do "gourd"geous shading like your Zinnias. :)
I really enjoyed watching you. You inspired me to spend the afternoon in my she shed with my gourds. I want to learn to get that soft look of your work. Practice, trial, practice!
A question or two,.... what about the smell? Does it have a strong smell of burning or does the gourd itself have a smell when burned too?? Also, on another video you did when you show from seed to art,... how did you get all the mold and skin of the outsides?? Ie detergents and what not... thanks 😊
It depends on the gourd and how hot I have the temperature set. Sometimes the gourd smells vaguely like chocolate! It usually is a pleasant odor but there also can be a real stinker now and then! Yes washing with detergent and a scrubber, to clean, and elbow grease!
Do you use sealant or lacquer the burn on a gourd or just a clear coat seal on it? We have the family to it called a calabash I'd love to try a burn on it but I want the burn to last haven't seen anyone mention how they finish the piece
this is my favorite item you have on these videos. I go back to it for reference on shading on plants etc. Love your work.
Wow! Thank you!

Beautiful 😍
Well done! Fun and informative!
Thank you Kate!😄
BEAUTIFUL!
Those flowers are simply stunning! Did I see you dip your pen in something as you worked?
Thank you! ❣️ No, I am not dipping my pen. What you may be seeing is me cleaning carbon off or adjusting the temperature of the burner.
Love your work , also would like to know if you sell gourd seed . Just getting started with gourds ...
Thank you! No I do not sell gourd seeds.
What tip are you using in this video? Such beautiful, intricate work. Thank you
A shading pen
Thank you, I have a shading tip and the fan coming today! Love your flowers. I live in Holland, Michigan and want to do some tulips on a gourd.
@@sandytroxel7823 that sounds beautiful! 🌷
What tool are you using to do the burning. I would love to get one.
I use Optima and Razertip pyrography pens
Would you tell what tip you used for your pyrography…must be some sort of shading tip?
Yes I am using bent spear shading tip pen. I think it is a medium size one.
Do you have any demo using colored pencils on gouds
Not yet but that can be a good future video! Thanks for your comment!

Do you polish it to get the sheen?
No, that just naturally happens as I burn and the pores of the gourd close up.
Bonjour, votre pyrograveur va de quelle température minimum à quelle maximum, si vous avez une marque a me conseillé,merci
I use a Burn Master Eagle 2 port pyrography unit, goes from 0-10. Most often I burn between a 4-6.
BeautiFUl
Thank you! 😊
Which brand of wood burner do you prefer?
I use a Burnmaster Eagle 2 port, with several brands of pens. I mostly use Razertip and Optima.
What burner do you use?
I use a burnmaster unit with a combination of optima (green grip) and razertip (black grip) pens.
Do you use sealant or lacquer the burn on a gourd or just a clear coat seal on it? We have the family to it called a calabash I'd love to try a burn on it but I want the burn to last haven't seen anyone mention how they finish the piece
I use an acrylic spray to seal it. By Krylon, has UV protection.
@@JennAveryGourdArt thank you so much. I hope I can find it here

Love watching but too detailed for my trying.
Glad you liked watching, may I suggest start starting small and simple?
