Lovely to have a break for your birthday, and to reset, but I agree, Madeira is by far the best compared to the Canaries, so I guess it was great to be back for their ostentatious Christmas and New Year celebrations in the sun and greenery. We’re looking forward to our customary January visit to avoid some of the worst English weather. Thank you for your positive vids.

Now I live for 3 years in Coimbra, with nightmarish interruptions in Argentina every year. I invested 60+ years of my life there until becoming a widower in 2017. In 2025 there will be a new Continente in São Vicente, so I’ll try to take a look at São Vicente combining it with the New Year fireworks in Funchal, which is a little too hot for me in summer!!

I loved Dough's definition of "floating retirement home." 🤣😅Spanish would be very easy for me; "Castellano" is the official language in Argentina, where I lived a lot of years before coming in 2021 to Coimbra. I’m a fan of Portugal and hope to make it to Funchal for the 1st of January 2025 fireworks! 🤣

The last seconds of the video deserves several likes...funny😂 Watching your video I already thought you'll leave the island and I was a bit sad, but nice that you stay there and only change the place. I was in Madeira the last time in May and I miss the island vibs, but unfortunately my project there needs more time than expected and so I had no real reason to return. But I promise, I'll find one somewhere in February or March to return. And maybe we could meet up. Until then, all the best, Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2025!

We did our first trip to Europe to see where we want to retire, we started in Madrid, then Lisboa and final Milan. We saw that Madrid is not a city for family or small children. Milan was fine and we like the most Lisbon. My wife is Brazilian and we speak Portuguese with different accent. I need to visit more cities to make a decision or take longer vacations in one or more cities.

Hello, you've must have stayed low, because there is no shower in the high mountain huts, at many places you even have to go outside to toilet. It is not me complaining, I love it the way it is. I am just telling this because there are some weirdos who expect hotel luxury @ 2000 meters and higher. It is ridiculous. At those places everyone has to be happy to have a roof above his head when cold night falls (not to mention dangerous summer storms). Getting some warm food after a whole day hike for me the ultimate happiness 😍😍😍

I knew eventually you guys would move down. It is wonderful being able to walk out your door and have the ocean at your feet. We live near the Mercado and can't imagine living anywhere else. While we are not as minimalist as you, we get it. We'll surely say hello next time we see you.

I've been meaning to meet you guys since we moved here! We live in Funchal 10 minutes walk from praca do povo and absolutely LOVE the walkability. I think choosing a place to live is really about the kind of lifestyle you want to have. Good luck and hope to see you soon :)

Hey, I recognized that picture window. 😅 Can’t say we blame you. Our 10th floor view of the ocean from Estrada Monumental never gets old. And I love walking to Pingo Doce every morning for my Galao and pastel de nata (1.25 euros, thank you very much). Plus though the whole Lido area is full of tourists, there is a wonderful park down by the ocean, our favorite gelato place is on Rua de Vale Ajuda and there’s always the Forum, where we can take Happy while shopping for clothes at H&M. Congrats on the move and taking the big leap of faith.
