Splitboard Skills Episode 12: Quick Rope Stack Colfax for Rappels
Maintaining efficiency during rope work in the mtns is incredibly helpful to allow time for other tasks. Or to allow some degree of improv or adjustment to unexpected conditions.
If you’ve been following along this line on Colfax was a highlight of last winter. The combination of commitment, risk mgmt, and technical skills made it a career highlight. On this day I prepared my kit like a utility belt so all the tools were accessible. After probing this site for crevasses I stacked the rope from my pack, re-tied a figure 8, then dug a snow anchor for my Splitboard to rappel in to scout my intended descent.
After the rappel I ascended back up and butterfly coiled the rope around my body: stay tuned for that clip coming soon.

Butterfly Kiwi Coil or Backpack Carry What's FASTER for Splitboarders
Переглядів 118Місяць тому
After quickly coiling the rope up into a butterfly kiwi coil and tying it off, the end of the run was time to transition back to hiking the trail. So a quick way to go from a body coil to a pack coil is by using the butterfly kiwi coil. In the video I untie a square knot holding the coils in place, take the thread out, hold it in my hand and tie a nail knot. This method allows the rope to rest ...

    Have you compared these to the slipper HD? I've recently gotten both and I'm trying to decide which to keep. It feels like the key equipment boot has better range of motion in walk mode and feels like a more progressive flex while the slipper is lighter, potentially more durable with the buckles and accommodates a higher instep.

    I think it's important to note that like all Splitboard hardboots, these Disruptives are rebranded Roxa's like Phantoms with Atomics. They are modified directly from the factory to make it feel like a soft boot and they punch new holes for the ankle strap which is a positive but once again these are all rebranded items. I will say they are very comfortable and work great!

  • @gobig67
    @gobig67 10 місяців тому

    Hey! I recently picked these up after demoing them. When you are in walk mode, do you keep any of the straps engaged (ie the lever down)? I’ve been walking with only the ankle strap down but im seeing wear points on the plastic material thats a little concerning

  • @burakurgancoglu6908

    Thanks for this! I'm really curious about a Phantom Slipper vs Disruptive comparison. Do you have experience with the former?

    • @gnar_tar
      @gnar_tar 7 місяців тому

      I have both (Atomic Backland with the Link Lever), Disruptive are more comfy but a bit heavier. Disruptive are a lot more durable and does not feel flimsy at all. One season on the backland and they were pretty much ruined. Disruptive also comes with a proper liner compared to the paper thin liner in the Atomic (you will want a intuition liner). Overall once you get use to the flex of the Disruptive, everything is better about it. If you like stiffer boots, I would recommend order the stiff tongue for the Disruptive .

    • @burakurgancoglu6908
      @burakurgancoglu6908 4 місяці тому

      Thanks a lot for this. I think you’ve broken Phantom’s heart, they’ve just announced they’re stopping boot production :)

    • @jackcody3102
      @jackcody3102 3 місяці тому

      @@gnar_tar hi. I was wondering exactly what you mean by "once you get used to the flex" ? do you think they are more stiff or softer than a phantom slipper?

    • @gnar_tar
      @gnar_tar 3 місяці тому

      @@jackcody3102 the flex just feel different, Phantom slipper has a decent flex and not that stiff even with the heavier weight spring (I'm 180 lbs) and then hit a wall when you hit the bushing (either compress or fully extend the spring). The Disruptive feel like the flex is the same throughout the whole boots and never ramp up or hit the wall feeling. Hard to explain but hopefully that helps. I like stiff boots in general in my soft boots and the Disruptive with the stiff flex tongue works great for me.

    • @jereburrell
      @jereburrell 10 місяців тому

      These were quite new with a new after market liner at time of filming. Now while skinning uphill they flex as easy as any other boot Ive owned.

    • @TheWhitenigga91
      @TheWhitenigga91 10 місяців тому

      as an owner of these I can say they have quite big range of montion when walking. I'm walking with the cuff lever unlocked as this is significantly reducing the flex and allowing much more freedom. When it's locked, it tightens the tongue which is great for riding, but then it's a bit hard to move the boot by hand to do a demo, like it is in the case.
