What a relief, so glad that is over. Storm Darragh made landfall at the weekend, giving us a red weather warning for wind, and he certainly caused mass disruption. A 24hr power outage felt like a lifetime, but we were fairly unscathed. As the winds began to fade I took my opportunity to get my new Timeless Rose Collection planted into the cut flower garden. Happy New Year! 🎊
Happy new year to you too , Susan ❤
Thank you Suzanne. Oh no what a shame all sorted. Cheers🍷x
Happy New Year Suzanne Here's to a fab 2025, Looking forward to seeing those beautiful flowers, and lovely bouquets you make Happy growing. ps still can't get the buymeacoffee link to work? Best wishes. x
Thank you Gina And thanks for letting me know about the link, it turns out I have had it wrong for the last 10 months🙈 hopefully I have corrected my errors 👍
Fab video and I look forward to seed sowing with you in 2025! Happy new year 🎉
Thank you, cant wait 😊
I planted a,similar variety that turns out to be a paperwhite. Theyre all flowering now too.
I will have to look into that, I may have to swap them for a different variety.
Great video Suzanne, you've obviously been very busy, the plot looks great! Looking forward to seeing what you grow this year. Could you please do a video on your propagator? My MIL bought me a hydroponic herb/veg grower for xmas but I'm hoping to use it for cuttings. Happy New Year! Xx
Thank you, yes I can definitely create some content about my Hydroponic propagation set up, at some point in the spring. Happy new year 🌸
Super video Suzanne. Love your positivity. Your garden is going to be amazing. Happy New Year!
Thank you and happy new year to you.
Wishing you the best for 2025. Looks like a great start.
Its amazing what can be achieved during an uninterrupted dry day .😊 Happy Growing.
Is the stock fence for support? I see a lot of people doing that and I’m just wondering how it works? Is it better than using string and netting? How do you support the taller growing flowers like snaps? X
yes its stock fence, I have used odd bits here and there for a long time, but last year I decided to invest in covering a larger area, and I am pleased I did, I will need to invest in more again this season, but I am confident it will be worth it. I will put some clips of me doing this in a future video, but basically I cut it so that I leave sharp edges that i then poke into the ground, then it simply supports itself. I support all my flowers with one layer of stock fence and a higher layer of string, you can see an example on my video Early August Cutting Garden Tour at 15.49. Happy growing🌺
I wanted to ask the same question . Would be so happy to see how you have installed the supports ! Loved the video ! Thanks so much . And happy new year
@@JulyJulyssonI will definitely make a video at some point that takes a look at plant support. Happy new year 😊
Great video, Suzanne. Looks like you've been really busy. I am so excited as I took on an extra allotment plot in October and I intend it to be for fruit and flowers. I am looking forward to being able to grow all the flowers I love and that need slots of sun, as I've run out of space in my garden and also, because of neighbour's trees, lacks sun in some areas, despite my garden being south facing! I bought some bargain peony tubers. I know they won't flower for a couple of years, but so worth the wait. I grew Canterbury bells this year but they have remained rather small- i think I too planted them out rather late. Wishing you a wonderful New year and following you in your garden. Happy growing 🙂
I can imagine you are very excited about your allotment growing space, I can remember how I felt when I started building my cutting garden, its a great feeling. Although the tough decisions over what I have room to grow starts now. My Peonies, have been so abused I wonder if I will ever be able to cut from them, but one day I am sure we will both have beautiful peony blooms. Have a great time planning your new allotment, wishing you much success.
@@stemsbysuzanne Aww, thank you 🙂
Can't find the link to buy you a coffee (Christmas hot chocolate) any suggestions x
Oops I think that was the late night editing, my brain must have gone to sleep 😴 thanks for letting me know I have added the link, and thanks for supporting me and keeping me motivated 😊 A very happy Christmas to you 🌲
Suzanne, thank you very much for all your videos throughout this year. They have been very informative, definitely inspiring and enjoyable. Looking forward to 2025. Wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas & A happy, healthy new year.
Thank you so much Gina, I too am very much looking forward to the new season and finally the shortest day is behind us. A very Merry Christmas and happy New year to you and your family x
Lovely. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
Thank you Karen, for continuing to support and motivate me, and I do hope you to have a lovely festive season🌲
Have a wonderful Christmas and new year and thanks for all the inspiration this year 🙏
Thank you, I am very much looking forward to getting the new growing season underway. A very Merry Christmas and Happy New tear to you.
Very lovely and natural arrangements 💕 I will definitely try this, thank you for all your videos this year, Merry Christmas 🎄x
Thank you. Good luck with your arrangement , and z very merry Christmas to you 😊
Wonderfully inspiring Suzanne, great ideas, thank you. Wishing you and all your family a safe and happy Christmas and New Year holiday, all the very best for 2025. For the most part here in our hot Australian climate, we will be celebrating with salads and trying to keep our gardens alive, such a contrast!
Thank you. We have just had the shortest day, and are being battered once again by high winds, such a contrast to you. Do Enjoy your Christmas and your salad 🥗
Hi Suzanne! Would you recommend wool for cultivation in humid areas with clay soil for flower growing? (Annual average 55,7 inches)
I can not see any reason why not, I expect it may well break down more quickly, than in dry climates.
I look forward to seeing those roses in your arrangements.
Oh yes, I am really looking forward to that 😊
Looks like dara to me
It did not flower during the summer so it will be interesting to see if if flowers next year.
Hi Suzanne! May I ask where you buy your cardboard flower base for bouquet transport? I forget which video I saw you present your bouquet in one. I may have some luck ordering from here in Spain from the same company. Thank you for all you share! 💐🙏💞
I like to try and support local businesses where possible so I order these from a supplier I. Devon in the UK called Michael Dark. I am not sure if they ship, but here is a link www.michaeldark.co.uk/
@ Thank you so much!
Those look beautiful! I am always surprised how often I use my Bonica but it is on the shorter side so mostly for arrangements
My Bonica has very long stems, but a little on the weak side. I am very excited to see how they turn out🌺
Jude the Obscure is my favourite; the perfume is devine 😇
oh dear Jude I really do not need any encouragement, but I just looked it up and it looks absolutely wonderful, definitely one for the wish list🌺
I am not keen on shrub roses as I have found many have weak stems and the flowers tend to droop downwards. I must be doing something wrong? Maybe harder pruning? I have the timeless roses. I haven't found mine to have a strong fragrance. They do smell but not strongly. My favourite of the 4 is cream. I found the Charisma and Purple to be of a similar colour but the flower forms are different. Maybe it was down to the poor summer last year? I have grown mum in a million which smells gorgeous. I love Just Joey. My mum always had it in her garden, Beautiful rose. I love all the Queen Elizabeth roses- lovely shaped bush and gorgeous flowers. I have just ordered apricot Queen Elizabeth. Can you recommend a good thornless, very fragrant rose for cutting. I have Zephirine Drouin. Thank you Suzanne. happy gardening 🙂PS The timeless roses are nt that thorny. I cut them and no issues with thorns. Hope that cheers you 🙂
No, I seem to find that my shrub roses in the cottage garden do just that, I think perhaps I should stick to hybrid teas. I am disappointed to hear that your timeless roses are not highly scented, they may end up in patio containers after all. Yes Mum in a million was another one of the roses recommended during the talk, and I am still keen on a just joey, i just require a larger garden😊. I am pleased that your timeless roses are not to thorny thats a positive and certainly cheers me up. I have climbing rose golden showers and iceberg, both fragrant and thornless, but terrible vase life, so no recommendations, I still really rate champagne moment very highly and its not to thorny. Happy growing🌺
@@stemsbysuzanne I have Golden showers and Iceberg too. We seem to have similar tastes in roses, lol!
We missed the storm luckily but we have had a heavy frost -6 for a couple of weeks now so not a lot has been done...I want to do my wreath so will have to cut frosted foliage and leave it to defrost! 😊
I am glad you missed the storm. We have not had a frost for a day or two, but the wind has totally dried out loads of the foliage's that looked perfect before the winds🌺
I just rewatched your video. It was so useful. Thanks Suzanne. ❤
This is one of the first videos I made when I started my channel. I am very glad that you found it useful, I think I would be to embarrassed to watch it again🌺 I do not have as many orders this year, so do not have too many bases to make. Happy wreathing.
❤ well done Suzanne.
I am feeling very motivated, wish I did not have to go to work today.
I have just finished planting out 6 beds of dahlia tubers on my new farm here in Adelaide South Australia, and we are about to have 3 or 4 days of 38°c-42°c. My flower farm is in an old market garden paddock, which is subject to high winds and the baking sun, so the race was on to mulch and net - to stop the mulch from blowing away. I previously had about 14 out of my 300+ tubers poking shoots through until two unexpected hot days baked them off, so fingers crossed that they get the chance to reshoot again now. Your new roses look gorgeous, and I'm so glad that you didn't sustain any really serious damage in that storm.
Very challenging growing conditions for you, I certainly hope your tubers sprout again soon. The summer in the Uk is so variable it is difficult to know what each year will bring. Wind is definitely the most difficult for me as it can snap so many stems of established plants, so I hope the wind is kind to you. Happy growing🌺
Poor quality or not Suzanne I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely flowers with beautiful results. I have 2 family weddings to do this year, not having done a wedding before so any advise on how you've done it is fabulous. Many thanks. Jan uk
Thank you Jan, I did film a wedding series last year which goes into a lot more of the planning detail, I do waffle on a bit as the videos were not scripted, you may find them interesting, this is part one- ua-cam.com/video/n0Fa1lFBq4gs/v-deo.htmli=BYaIGEwGdkQugvxi part two- ua-cam.com/video/0UOTSs_Rsk8/v-deo.htmlsi=Y8-YyZg8ieZ0emqu part three - ua-cam.com/video/l4gnxnamQbo/v-deo.htmlsi=5cTi8i6pTFmA3rff part four - ua-cam.com/video/HfoGSdtU4DI/v-deo.htmlsi=jMpK9VP9z4v2V5cQ wishing you two wonderful weddings🌺
Thanks for your input! With regards to sunflowers, I hear Soraya has blooms facing upward, good for bouquet work. Blessings from Ontario Canada :)
oh thank you for this, I had not heard of that one, so may give that one a go this coming season🌺
Nina my wife and I have just found your site and what fantastic luck for us. I am retired so have the time to work a veg garden and Nina retires in a years time and hopes to set up a very small cut flower business. It looks like your site is full of inspiration so here`s to the future. Happy Christmas,
I used to make space for veg, but I am afraid, flowers have completely taken over, I would love to grow some veg again, one day when I can fee up some space. Happy Christmas to you both and thank you for taking the time to comment 🌺
Wishing you the very best this holiday season! Hang in there ❤
Ah thank-you this message is exactly what I need as I am currently trying to organise Tuesdays wreath making work shop 🙂
If it helps I havnt planted my spring bulbs yet either, that’s on my Xmas holidays to do list!! along with many other things 😊 💪
Yes optimism that's what we need, we will catch up 🙂
Thank you for your realistic video....We all have these days or weeks and feel overwhelmed at this time...I haven't finished planting my bulbs either as I damaged my knee...Have a million jobs to catch up on but have to admit defeat....You are not alone ! 😊
Oh how awful, there is nothing worst than not physically being able to do the things we can see really need to be done. I really hope your knee is repairable 🌸
Very pretty countryside. I enjoyed seeing that.
It was just perfect, glad you liked it 😊
Recognisable, in the summer I feel guilty because the house is a mess always being busy in the garden. Now Im always thinking about the unfinished tasks in the garden. 😂 Oh well… Lets enjoy our tea!
I think although I feel incredibly busy in the summer, I find the extra light allows me to so much more productive. It is definitely the short days that affect me, and of course the pressures of Christmas. But I am excited to get past the shortest day, and draw my attention to which seeds I will be sowing. I think we are are all guilty of possibly biting off more than we can chew. One task at a time 🌺
@@stemsbysuzanne 💚 Yes, my energy is a lot lower in fall/winter. Just three weeks and then it's getting lighter everyday...
Suzanne, what an honest story of how life is for most. At times it does get overwhelming and it is so important to stop and take a breath. I’m going to take my lurcher Maggie to the river this week and revel in her zoomies. One job at a time and hope your finger heals well. Love your videos, take care x
Thank you Claire, I must admit the fine weather and getting my thoughts out in to the open as I walked in such a beautiful spot, has given me a bright and optimistic start to today, so I really hope your walk with Maggie is as positive, and I am sure she will love her zoomies 🐶
You will succeed because it's obviously your passion. I know when my garden ( and i ) are struggling in the drought months we have, i wonder, am i absolutely mad to keep trying? Then finally, temperatures cool and rain comes and hallelujah the garden transforms. You inspire me so much. Great video!
This is what I mean when I thank you for you all for your encouragement, and this really confirms my thoughts on how very different our challenges can be. Thank you for your comment and happy growing🌺
That was a beautiful walk Suzanne, giving much needed time away from the jobs list and your dogs certainly enjoyed it too! Hopefully you get some time over the Christmas break to tick off some tasks from the never ending list. Take care.
Thank you Andrea, I am definitely feeling revitalised, especially as it has dawned on me that the winter solstice is not far around the corner😊
What a great and beautiful idea ❤
Thank you 🌸
Lovely wreath, can you tell me where you buy foliage from?
Thank you. for bunches I order from flowersbyclowance.co.uk/ or bjrichardsflowers.co.uk/ Sometimes I buy a whole British grown tree locally and then cut it up. Happy creating🎄
Thanks for showing how to do this.
Thank you, you are very welcome 🎄😊

Thank you, I love a bit of over stuffing too 🎄😊
