My top 5 tools for beading cross stitch
❤❤❤ I can't wait to see you working on your Mermaid Realm! 🧜♀️
I have stitched the Wrendale peacock for my son as a birth sampler. He now models for big fashion brands which informs hilarious.
I love that hermit crab!
Well, that was just very prescient of you! It's just perfect 😄 The Wrendales are all so gorgeous...I have the chameleon in my sights for the next one!
I think that one is my hubby's fave!
Wonderful detailed commentary on how you stitched this massive project, it is beautiful !! Gave me lots of things to consider as I am currently in the planning stage for my first full coverage piece. Subscribed and look forward to catching up on your videos and following your current projects.
Thanks so much and I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊 I am just thinking of choosing and starting another full coverage...but which one to pick?! I hope you enjoy your first full coverage piece 🪡😄
I have chosen a free HAED pattern called Forest Maiden. I love the mystical look of the design.
Where is the link to order the hoop butts?
All in the description 😄
The way you stitch with the nurge hoop is also called resting it on the stitching shelf. That puts the Aimee Stewart design in another perspective, doesn't it? 😅
Ah yes...it does! 😂 That is such a fun way to describe it...and perfectly true!
Well you’ve enabled me 😂 just order the Cotton & Twine subscription box…excited to receive it as it will be my first order from them! X
I do hope you enjoy it Louise...I've just made a small start and the colours are just divine 😄 Receiving the boxes is alwasy such a treat as well!
Oooh, so excited to see your sheep Bothy thread kit! I have this in my stash, not yet started as it's too pretty for me to attempt yet. So I'd love to see you stitch it too, maybe I'll be brave enough to stitch it at the same time 🙂 Looking forward to seeing your new design finished. And it's great to hear how much you've been enabling your mum and dragging her down the WIP rabbit hole 😀
Oh I do hope when I start the sheep that it will inspire you to start yours 😄 I was thinking to do a Stitch With Me when I start or soon after so perhaps that will help?! That WIP rabbit hole gets everyone in the end I think...and I'm not sure she needed much dragging 😂
@@catkinandlillie A stitch with me would be wonderful - and I am getting dragged down the WIP rabbit hole myself as well 😀
Do u have a video of how u organise ur floss drops on ur peg board ??
Yes, I would love to see that also!
I actually don't...but it is very much on my list of videos to make as I think a lot of people are curious about that! So watch this space!
@@catkinandlillieyeh I would love to see it trying to get ideas for my new art room
Firefly princesses is a beautiful design. Great start! I loved all your shares. ❤
She really is...I'm excited to get back to her...hopefully not too long!
❤ love the sheep 🐑 🐏 what a beautiful box love her work ❤ your design looks amazing 😊
Yup, the sheep are amazing! Can't wait to stitch them 🪡😄
Hi I’ve just started watching ur videos and I’m starting to get into cross stitch and beaded cross stitch, this video was really helpful and I really like ur cross stitch u have in the background that says ( craftiness is happiness) I was wondering if u have a pattern for that design?
Hello and thank you! The cross stitch you love is by Stitchrovia and you can find it here www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1690984860/craftiness-is-happiness-cross-stitch? I hope you continue to find lots to help you out in my videos as you start on your cross stitch journey 😊
@@catkinandlilliegreat thank u very much
Sorry, I’m so behind. All your WIPs are so gorgeous. There isn’t a single one I wouldn’t love to do. Thank you for an awesome video. Happy stitching! 😊
No need to apologise...life is busy! That's so great that you're enjoying all my WIPs 😄
Thanks Kat! Great video and peek into your Patreon!
Glad you enjoyed it Joanne 😄
Very helpful as usual thank you Kat ❤. I would like to add that some needles in the same package might be different due to industrial defect so it is good to keep this in mind and try other one. I just noticed that while stitching with John James size 26 needle, it shredded my thread and was difficult to put the needle threader in! I was thinking how people around the world like them! So I tried another one from the same package it was totally different 😂
That's a really good point, thank you!
there's so much free content
I'm sorry if I misunderstand your comment but if you are suggesting it's not worth paying for content because there's lots available for free, then absolutely that's your choice. I am grateful and appreciative of those who choose to financially support me and receive exclusive content as this enables me to provide more free content, which takes a huge amount of time and effort.
Nice to meet your alter-ego, Kat, who wears glasses and indulges in chaos. Interesting that you both have a penchant for new stash... 🤔😁
Yup, my alter ego and I definitely have a lot in common especially when it comes to new stash...and new starts 😂
I have a friend with starting and it's fun to watch. She could never understand why I have so many starts a day UFOs. 😅
ROSSA!! She is a beauty Kat. Really great job!! She looks amazing with all those beads! Gaia is looking incredible. I need to catch up! haha. She looks fabulous!
Thanks Andrew, and you can take a bit of credit for the finish on Rossa after you asked about her at the Jingle Ball 😂 Now I need to pull my finger out and bead The Winter's Gift!
Your design looks lovely. Ive been stitching for years and wouldn’t dream of designing anything. Wouldn’t have a clue where to start. 😊
Thank you 😊 I was clueless at the start and still learning lots as I design more, but it's fun!
I love the cabinet on your left. What is it called and where did you get it? I need one in my craft cottage. Love your videos! ❤❤
Thank you 😊 If you mean the cabinet on my left in the Patreon video, it's an Ikea Kallax unit and the drawer inserts are a mix of random ones that I have no idea where they originally came from and from creations-by-rod.co.uk/ 😄
Thank. You for the video and great information. You have beautiful nails.
That's lovely of you, thank you 😊
?
My first wip parade for the new year! Yay! Lovely seeing all your projects and your smiles throughout. :) I'm guessing you finished the beading, which means possibly another mermaid on the horizon? I'm still halfway through my Greta and she's the closest I think... I always love seeing your Chromatic Dragon, but I don't think I could stitch so much dark colours on so small a count. (Then again, I say that and I'm stitching the LOTR one with the ring...). See you soon; I'm off to the next video :)
I'm honoured to be the first WIP parade you watched 😊 You are right about there being more mermaids in my future as you will see... 😜
Such a quick, simple and fun way to finish the back. How did I not know this before?! Haha. Love those hoop butts, I'm going to have to purchase a few to try out =) And I love what you did with the paper on the cardboard. I'm a scrapbooker, so I have a TON of fun papers to coordinate with any embroidery or cross stitch project for the backing! Thank you for the tip!
I only learned about this finishing technique fairly recently...and its' sooooo good! Perfect for a scrapbooker too; you already have the supplies!
love your videos. missing your stitch-with me. will you do the Reader ?
Thank you! I'm so sorry it's been a bit tricky to fit in Stitch With Me recently but they will be back at some point! Which one were you thinking of with The Reader?
I switch between one-handed and two-handed stitching but when I do two-handed I intentionally turn my hands the opposite way to avoid spinning the thread. Like when the hand on top turns the needle around towards the fabric, I turn right. And the hand on the backside turns left to turn the needle back towards the fabric. That seems to help, but not as much as just using a shorter thread.
I really would like to try two handed stitching at some point...so I need to remember this for when I do as it sounds very helpful!
There is a method to do a loop start with one strand. The NeedleBugg channel has a tutorial as do a few others.
I've seen some tutorials and even tried it out but it just didn't seem secure to me. I'll check out the NeedleBugg video through 👍😄
Oh, this is so helpful. I've always been afraid to do over 2 bc of the 1/2 stitch off.
I'm so glad this could ease some of your fears 😊
Love this, she is beautiful with all the beads on and WIPs are all looking great. Congratulations musketeersplus2.
Thanks Karen 😊
A great flosstube. Congratulations on finishing Rossa - beautiful.
Thanks Laura 😊
Rossa looks beautiful, the fabric choice is lovely and you did such a great job with the beading! Nice to see all the SALs, and that tiny town is looking lovely. Your fabric is pretty, I like the muted colors, you could put anything on that. I’m currently having fun with my first project using fancy floss, not a big project but I’m having a lot of fun with it!
Thanks Katherine 😊 I'm so happy I powered through the beading and she really looks lovely. I agree about the fabric; I figured having muted colours I'd be able to more easily find things to stitch one them! That's so awesome that you are enjoying some fancy floss!
Thanks. I've been doing cross stitch for over 20 years and I've never come across a scheme with two colors for the same cross - without any explanation in the scheme. And now trying to find an explanation, I found your video and it was the best cross stitch class ever.
Wow, that is such a lovely comment, thank you 😊 It's always great to know when my videos are helpful!
Rossa is stunning. I also have some of Swan Bay fabrics, they are beautiful. I chose 36 count happy and one piece of 40 count.
Thanks Joy 😊 I might try some 36 and 40 count as well!
🐴🐴🐴
Wow! Rossa looks absolutely stunning 😮 so love seeing her, the beads look fantastic. Love seeing your wips and your stash! 😊 oh and that arctic project is soooo cute, thank you for sharing, enjoy your stitching retreat. Im trying to sum up the courage to go to a stitch meet. X
Thanks Lisa, and so glad you enjoyed this episode 😊 I only took the plunge with in person events last year and I'm still a bit scared of them but they are really fun. I hope you'll be able to go to one xx
Loved viewing your amazing WIPS. Amazing and inspiring.😊
Thanks so much Lorraine 😊
And here I was thinking you were taking a Commenter Poll on whether you should give the snowman a button or not. 😂 My mistake. It must be a very tiny button - I'd hate to be fumbling with that with snowman-stick-arms. ⛄️
And to think I used to cut out all that kind of nonsense on my videos, and now I leave it in so you can all have a good laugh 😂 The button is very tiny, and very cute...and I think the snowman will absolutely need help to fasten it!
@@catkinandlillie I'm glad you leave it in! 🤣👍
Rossa looks beautiful. Those beads really add a nice detail. I always have to laugh when you have new fabric! I’d love to see your stash!
Thanks Rebecca, it was such a delight to finally finish Rossa. Yeah, my fabric stash is kind of silly now...but I'm sure others have more! And you may get your wish because I'm hopijg to do a video on fabric storage options, so I'll be showing off my stash!
Cat, your mom is absolutely beautiful. I was going back over some over your videos. What a treat. She is a beautiful cross stitcher, now I know where you get it from. ❤
Aw, thanks Denise 😊 Mum and I do really enjoy sharing our love of cross stitch with each other...and with you!
Congratulations on finishing Rossa - I guessed the right one! 🙂She is lovely and the beading definitely makes her look more special. And YAY! for seeing Gaia again - I confess, you've enabled me and I've bought the pattern. It'll be a long time before I feel ready to tackle her, but I'm just excited to have her in my stash and I love seeing your progress on her 😀
Thank you...and congrats for guessing the one that was missing! I'm happy I just went with all the beading in the end and it looks lovely 😄 I'm excited for you to stitch her one day when you're ready, and she definitely is a slightly more approachable fancy lady as a first one.
Rossa is so beautiful!! I’m loving seeing the other projects, too, great work! -@accounting.my.stitches
Thank you 😊
Beautiful finish ❤
Thanks Angela 😊
OMG, I won! Thank you so much Cat! If I can't figure out how to get you a message here, I'll send it on Patreon.
You're Rossa is absolutely beautiful. Your backstitching makes her arms and face look so delicate! I have difficulty making backstitching look so smooth. I must admit I have a very impatient streak and want to get my projects done quickly! 😊. I'm using your monthly calendar to keep track of my stitching days, what I'm working on and goals. Will see how long I last!
Thanks so much Kathy 😊 It really can be tricky to get some backstitching to look neat, and I do often take it out and re-do it in a different way if it's not looking how I want it to.
I thought it was rossa that was missing in the wip parade 😊. The beading is very pretty, and I can't wait to see you start beading the other fancy ladies.
You were right! And it was just so awesome to finally finish that last bit of beading...it turned out to be more left than I thought but it looks great 😄 I'll definitely be sharing more videos when I bead other fancy ladies, including some Stitch With Me so you'll be able to see it in action!
Congratulations on your finish! Ages ago I got Angel of Spring and Angel of the Sea ( L&L ) framed. My framer used 2 mat boards. Looks great and plenty of room for the beads.
Thanks Kelley, and although I often go for very simple framing with a single mat board, two would definitely help in this case so I'm gonna consider that 👍 I bet you were so happy with your frmaed finishes 😄
Congratulations on reaching 8000. My niece loves dinosaur. Such a lovely bag x
Thank you 😊
Really useful, thanks Kat ☺
Thank you so much Kat - I enjoyed your help 👌
You're welcome 😊
I wash everything. Soak it in warm, soapy water. Rinse, thoroughly. Hang dry. I iron the edges using a towel and then steam press the actual image. Then I take out a second mortgage and take it to a professional framer. I don't worry about color bleeding because I always wash the floss before I begin. Extra work but saves heartache later. 😊
Now that's a smart idea to wash the floss first 👍 And yes, totally agree about the second mortgage for framing...but I think it's well worth it after the hard work we put into them 😄
Ooh, how do you do that?
