    You are such a down to earth person, and it is a joy to watch and listen to your "stitch with me" videos. All of your "conversation" with us is SO informative and natural! This video and your thought process is very helpful. Great tips and methods to try! Love your take on "running threads", and "thread chicken"! All feels like I'm sitting there with you chatting and stitching!! Cheers! Look forward to see how you make your patterns so large and pieced together. (makes them MUCH easier to see!) Always leave much smarter after watching! Thank you!

I'm always questioning my own work and wondering if I'm working through the process in the most efficient manner. Kat I am 100% old school. I like a paper pattern just fine, or a chart in a book. I just uploaded a video yesterday showing my WIPs and yes you will see books. I use either a hoop or Q-snap. I tuck my threads in on the back too, and I only stitch one handed. Now, I will not naysay the use of app at some point in the future. But I am not a massive fan of ginormous charts. For one thing I am 55 years old and I only have so much time!

    • @catkinandlillie
      @catkinandlillie  5 місяців тому +1

      Well, we can stick together being old school with paper patterns and books I guess! I am all for using tech, and not shy of it at all but somehow it just hasn't grabbed me for stitching. I think part of it is wanting to use my tablet for watching flosstube, so can't do that and use it for a chart at the same time. I know I could get another tablet but that seems unnecessary, and could get awkward to try to arrange 2 tablets in my stitching spot! I think I need some smaller charts in my life...I do seem to have a lot of large ones right now 😂

    Since you're uploading a day later now, it clashes with my busiest work day of the week, so I have to save my viewing and commenting for the weekend. Don't worry, I'm still here, just a day or two late! 😅
    Where you live sounds lovely, I enjoy walking near my home too, and am grateful for beautiful hills, creeks and bushland on my doorstep.

Nature on our doorsteps is really something to be grateful for; I'm glad you have that too 😄 I tried one audiobook and it was actually while I was on my work commute. I did enjoy it and it would be a great option for while I'm stitching...but I always seem to have more than enough flosstubes to watch instead 😂 I'll try to remember to have a G&T on hand for the next video just in case...😂 Although, on the overheating front I am more upset that my laptop has died as it seems to have overheated and now won't turn on 😢 I'm currently sharing a laptop with LHDT!

    Love watching you stitch! I want this pattern but these ones, like Bella Filipina and Mirabilia are so expensive. I stitch the pattern in a very similar way. I think it is how your brain sees things. I could not just stitch one colour in different spots, as some people do, and then go back to fill in apart from the times as when you did it. I like to progress the design across or out, as I have been starting in the middle. Love the loop start as you taught it when I started CS a few months ago now though I noticed you did it a different way in this, bringing the knot down on the bottom left rather than going back into the hole top right. I have had to do one on the back before and had to think about it first!
    I try to do the Danish method as much as possible but I get worried about not estimating how much thread I'll need. Sometimes I just put in a single cross if it means that I will end the thread in the middle of a row using Danish. I have also found that occasionally I have to vary the starting point of the bottom arm because if I am going downwards, it just undoes the previous top arm. I do always have the top arm the same on every stitch. I honestly can see no difference if I do Danish and then have to do a whole stitch alone. It all looks the same to me. So English and Danish mixed in doesn't seem to make any difference to the look.
    I have a question about when you start on these larger projects from the bottom right and not the centre. How do you make sure you are in the correct place on the fabric and leave enough room? I can't imagine you'd count all those stitches to the centre (but maybe you do?) ... Thanks again. Really look forward to your videos 🥰

    • @catkinandlillie
      @catkinandlillie  4 місяці тому +1

      Huh, I'm sure I replied to this already but can't see it.
      Ok, let's try again...
      I agree that kitting up the fancy ladies can be expensive but I do also think that they are good value if you conisder how many hours of enjoyment they can give you.
      I always find it super interesting how we all work differently and find what works best; it sounds like we are pretty similar!
      I may well have done my loop start slightly differently as you can basically go back down either hole and it works out the same! You definitely can mix and match English and danish method without it looking different, and I do use a mix.
      For starting large projects I usually go for a bottom middle start, then immediately work over to the bottom right hand corner and then I can start working my preferred direction of upwards and to the left. This is exactly for the reason you suggested that I don't trust myself to count accurately over to the corner! If I have a big new start soon then I'll try to share more on that.

    • @helenaMe325
      @helenaMe325 4 місяці тому

      @@catkinandlillie Thanks, Kat. That helps - starting middle bottom then moving to right bottom. I think I will do that with Julia as it sounds like that way is how my brain would like it to go too! You are right about the expense and enjoyment and it is still cheaper than making quilts! Maybe not if you add the frame but I intend to do my own framing. Showing you actually starting a large project would be a great video, please! Anyway, thank you for taking the time to reply and so fully 🥰

      Oooh, I hope you'll love the blackberry fabric: I think it's gorgeous! You can choose wheer you want to start, either the centre of the design or from a corner. It's probably easiest to start from the centre and I have a video on how to do this ua-cam.com/video/vWbVgV1-Et8/v-deo.html
      Or if you prefer to start in a corner I have a video on this too ua-cam.com/video/uBSvFINOFww/v-deo.html
      It's not always easy to count to a corner so I very often start at the bottom in the middle and I talked about this a little bit in my first stitch with me video ua-cam.com/video/mSE_zMs_TL8/v-deo.html

If the colours you are using match what's listed on the pattern info then it should be correct. I absolutely have no problem with you sharing my stitching. Sorry that you're not sure the colours are right on yours. I will check mine when I get home and let you know.

      The DMC variation or variegated threads are the same thickness as the standard DMC 6 stranded cotton. There are many other manufacturers of hand dyed thread which have variegation and they may vary in number of strands and thickness, and it would be impossible to list them all here. Watch this space for a video on stitching with variegated threads soon!
