Yerba Mate: How much yerba should I use?
Переглядів 8938 місяців тому
Yerba mate gourds come in a variety of shapes, styles, and designs. In this video we look at how much yerba is typically used in the standard gourds: traditional calabash, cuia, torpedo calabash, and a wooden gourd. Each gourd is filled 3/4 full to give close to a max amount of yerba that should be used. Remember, each matero will use a different amount based on their situation. Drinking yerba ...

I’m not sure but I think it’s pronounced can-are-ees
Hello. Greetings from Finland. Im a dedicated Mate drinker in the country that drinks the most coffee (per se) in the world, so i dont have that many friends to sit in a Mate circle :D But i like your videos and the biggest reason is your genuin style. Try not to loose that. This yellow Kraus con palo Mate is my favorite so far. I also like the Mate strong and kicking but you can affect the strength pretty much also with the proportion yerba/water and brewing time etc.. and this Kraus is very good when prepared very strong. And also the taste that lasts in the mouth after the drinking. I suggest you should try some yerba from Paraguay. I think you would like their Pajarito. It has a nice kick also. But also try Fede Rico. The kick of Fede Rico is very sharp i think and i am still working on that brand but it is also organic which is important for me.
I love your mate, it's very cool, but the straw is very small, hehe It reminds me of a meme that says "my face (that is, a rude and intimidating face) my penis (and he made a cute face)
I agree with your assessment.
Tried the version with added mint, can recommend (if you like mint)
Thanks for sharing. I'll give that a try
I just ordered the Kraus. I have come up with my own mix. I put in some white silver needle tea leaves and fill the rest up with Balibetov Organic. Let me know how I can send you the mix and ratio. I can also give you my email.
I love hearing about different mixes people use. Feel free to email me your mix at yerbatravels@gmail.com
Like always great review!!
You're too kind! Got any recommendations for future yerba reviews?
@ you’re welcome and actually yes I do have a list! Forgive me if you’ve already done these: La Rubia, Romance, Laska, Mateina’s Yerba Sticks, Andresito, Secadero and Rodeo 😎🧉
@@yerbamatepower I have Andresito Traditional that I will be reviewing soon. I'll get the others and do a review of those too!
Hermoso video. 🇦🇷😍 Y hermosa yerba es muy rica ❤🎉🇦🇷😍
Thanks for the comment!! Any yerbas you recommend or would like to see a review of?
@yerbatravels caballo negro Barbacua y RO-MI-YA Barbacua un elixir 🥰🇦🇷😍
Hello, Playadito was my first Yerba…I absolutely loved it 😊 your description of the flavour was spot on.
Thanks for the comment matero @Spooky_Babe! Do you have any recommendations for a yerba review you would like me to do?
What do you think about Brazilian yerba mate chimarrão?? It usually is made with powdered fresh leaves and a bit of sticks, sometimes smoked but never aged
Honestly, I have only tried Ximango. I liked it, but would like to try other brands. I'll be ordering some chimarrao soon and will give those a review. Do you have any recommendation?
@yerbatravels i recommend the pagnussat(smoked yerba) and artezanal cheiro nativo(also smoked), the coarse CUT leaves like "rainha do Sul pura folha" or any yerba "pura folha" without flavors, about the tradicional Brazilian yerbas there is some varieties like moída grossa (a powdered yerba but with a thicker grinding, they taste a little stronger than the tradicional) and there is the "nativa" varieties (these are made with Native plants, so they receive less sunlight, the trees are not so densely populated, this makes the Native varieties have different flavors and less caffeine when compared to the tradicional farmed yerba mate trees)
@@matheusmarquetti2220 Thanks for sharing! I would love to try all of these, especially the smoked ones.
"earthy, woody, hay notes, citrus notes, sweet, bitterness" every mate review ever caramel candy lol... i think that's just the caffeine addiction talking. my brain would probably trick me into thinking it tasted like caramel too if i downed 300mg of caffeine while in withdrawal
There are plenty of yerbas out there that have no sweetness to them and are bitter as all get out! Dark roasted yerba being one of them. What yerba do you drink @poppetx?
Don't bother with Rosamonte. The best is Playadito. PERIOD
Thanks for the reply! Great channel, congrats!
Thank you!
Greetings from Mauritius brother. Thanks for the videos, they are really helpful.
Greetings!! It's quite incredible the places these videos reach. It's also kind of shocking because I was just talking to a friend of mine about the island of Mauritius just a few weeks ago, and now I've got viewers from there 😁. Thank you for watching and commenting!!! What type of yerba do you enjoy drinking? What yerbas are available on Mauritius?
@ Mauritius is indeed a talk of the town for how beautiful it is. We can’t be humble about that. 😅😅 as for Yerba Mate it is quite unknown here. I think I might be the only person on the island who uses it. It’s very difficult to bring it here but I am working on applying for a permit to hopefully start importing it to Mauritius and making it more known to people. The Yerbas I have right now are, Rei Verde Premium, Rosa Monte Especial Suave, CBSé Guarana, Cruz de Malta Mint and Boldo, Canarias te verde y Jenjimbre, Canarias Te Rojo, Playadito, a cherry one from France, another one from La bombilla France which is a bio Yerba Mate. And some more.
@@VijeshWTL I love your dedication to yerba mate - just from the variety of yerbas you have lol. I wish you all the best in your endeavors and Thank you for your viewership and commentary.
I would love to visit the island one day. Who knows... maybe we can do a review of a yerba together from the island :)

Love this one have had it several times the energy is there a big punch love it
take it to 11!
Where can I get this wooden Gourd?
Argenthings.com has a wonderful selection of wooden gourds. It's where I got this one.
La Merced Campo? Great yerba
It"s a good mate for starters or for those who prefer mild flavor. Not everyone wants to be punched 😂
🤣so true!
Amanda and Rosamonte are my favorites, ideal for people who don't look for yerba to know you out with a hammer punch
Yes, good call out!
My favorite Argentine brand is Amanda right now, would love to see you review if you haven’t already!
Yea, I will do a review of Amanda 😁
review anna park please! i would also love to know your top 5 yerba brands
Anna Park is in my top 5. Others (in no particular order) would be Rosamonte Especial, La Oberena, Porongo, and a Barbacua (many good brands out there).
@@yerbatravels oh thats nice! and can you tell you favorite one 10/10?
@@marshall8425 I'm still searching. Haven't found a 10/10 just yet. Rosamonte Especial is the closest I've found so far.
My daily choice. You may think is flat but the magic is in the consistency, the same flavor stays until all leaves of the cup are washed out. Yerba reviews are back!!
True! I found this out as I continued to drink it. Consitent flavoring throughout the whole session.
Could you do a review of the cruz de malta seleccion especial?
Yea, I'll make that happen!
❤❤❤❤🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🔥🔥🔥🔥🧉🧉🧉🧉🫂🫂🫂💪💪💪
Wow! Suprised you found it light, because it's one of the strongest brands (in taste). Maybe your water wasn't hot enough? (I didn't see any vapor coming out of the thermos). Personally last time I tried Rosamonte was when I was like 8 or 9 and I didn't like it, also I always associated it as an "old people" brand lol, maybe because of the packaging. Glad you're back!. I was waiting for a new video 😅.
🤣"old people" brand! Yes, it's good to be back. Thanks for all of your support @obiwan7840
@@obiwan7840 I think he finds it light because he does organic Yerbas a lot and they usually have a very strong punch
Hi! Can you try andresito selecion especial? I want to try it but i do not know if it is good, just starting out my mate journey! Love the videos! Thank you!! ( From Hungary)
Welcome to the circle! Glad to hear of another matero joining and enjoying yerba mate. Thank you for watching my videos and commenting. I will try to get my hands on some Andresito Selecion Especial and do a review for you! Salud 🧉
Just placed an order for andresito!!
@@yerbatravelscan’t wait for the review!! 🧉🫶🏻
I drank Canarias yellow for two years straight and just recently ive really started to dislike it. Its starting to taste like literal crap to me now so I'm experimenting with Serena.
That's a real bummer! I haven't drank Canarias long enough to know if the flavor has evolved or deteriorated, but maybe a fellow follower can shed some light on this for us! Thanks for sharing, and I hope you enjoy the Serena.
Hello, how are sin palo yerbas in comparison to Uruguyan? Is it closer to a regular Argentine or Uruguayan? Cheers!
Great quesstion. Argentine or Uruguayan typically refers to the cuts. Argetine cuts being larger leaves ans stems (palo) than Uruguayan cuts. This Taragui is a Uruguayan cut with stems.
@yerbatravels thanks, yes I know. What I meant was how Argentinian sin palo mate is compared to Uruguayan, tastewise. Does it have the stronger Uruguayan taste or is it even stronger?
@@felixqvist I believe Argentinian sin palo yerbas have a deeper (for lack of a better word: stronger) flavor. More of a 'punch'.
ei great video! I also got myself a bag of CANARIAS mate, love the taste and scent. However I am struggling a bit to not drinking a lot of leaves while sipping (of course I've tried all different processes to avoid it), so I am thinking that maybe I could try with a different bombilla ? I am new in the Yerba mate world so I am not sure wether there are bomibllas mose suitable for a thinner cut like the one Canarias have. Does anyone have any advice on a type of bombilla that could work for it :)? Thanks!
Yes, there are a variety of bombillas out there that can be used. Believe it or not they now have a bombilla that has 1,000 holes!!! In my expereience I have noticed that I get quite a bit of leaves in the first couple of rounds, but if I use my (spoon) bombilla to pack in the wet yerba after those first few rounds, then I don't get many leaves from that point on. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and commenting.
just started drinking mate and i dont think that this brand is only for professional because of its rly smooth taste. also its imo not bitter even if you dose high, unlike other greentea in general. havent tried other mate brands tho so i cant compare. so does that mean that other brands taste even smoother and better?
Great question! I just believe this packs a stronger flavor punch than others. Yes, there are other brands / yerbas out there that are more bitter than this. But, honestly many people's taste pallets are different. I've had people tell me one yerba is too bitter for them when I don't think it's bitter at all 🤣. I'm glad to hear you like this Canarias though. I am really starting to enjoy it the more I drink it.
@@yerbatravels ok thx! If someone loves canarias the best mate you'd recommend is rosamonte especial right? I have playadito and kraus also at home (didnt try kraus yet), i tried playadito and i have to say that i was a bit dissapointed. It lacked that strong taste and tasteful earthiness like canarias imo Edit: Wow, just tried "Kraus" Mate. I do really recommend it to you! It has the same tasty earthiness and punch as canarias, but with a slightly different taste, a bit more bitter also. Also i think the body/stimulant effect is smoother than canarias
@@herodes6304 Thanks for the info and review of Kruas! I will most definitely be reviewing that one in the future. When you say the effect is smoother. What do you mean?
@@yerbatravels With "smooth" i mean like combatible or digestible. English is not my first language so i hope i used the right words. But yeah i recommend it, very similar to canarias you'll definitely like it! Btw whats the very best mate you recommend if someone loves canarias, its "rosamonte especial" right?
@@herodes6304 Yes, your words describe it well! I would defintely recommend Rosamonte Especial although it does have a different flavor. Others that I would recommend that have that 'smoothness' would be Porongo and Ana Park.
Hi there! I just ordered a few 1kg bags of this! I loved it. There is some advertising saying it is "unsmoked", however; I cannot figure out if this is true or not. Do you know anything about this?
From reading different reviews and what's printed on the product, I do believe this is an 'unsmoked' organic yerba. I believe (but have not validated this yet) that this is unsmoked due to its less bitter and more earthy, smooth taste. Smoked yerbas I have tried in the past pack a stronger punch (flavor wise) and have a deeper smokiness to them.
incredibly overrated tbh
Really? Why do you think so?
I am not sure what it is exactly but I didn't really like it. I think it might have been just that it is a composite yerba
@@joaquinbrasher3722 It's also a bit more harbal flavor than say a natural flavor with a bitterness like most yerbas or teas. I can appreciate when people share their insights bc honestly, we all have different flavor preferences and knowledge like this helps others. Thanks for sharing!
that's a good point, different kinds of bitter. What do you look for in taste in the day to day?
@@joaquinbrasher3722 I prefer yerbas with a stronger punch (strong flavor) not all strong flavored yerbas are bitter. La Oberena and Rosamonte Especial are two examples of this. I find them to be a bit more on the sweet side than bitter side of the flavor profile. What do you look for in a day to day?
Hello, is it unsmoked ? and is it kind of organic ? thank you
I got that one here at home, also the premium version. Playadito is algo a big name in argentinian yerba.
Isondu is very solid brand. Really like both Isondu Traditional and Barbacua. This is my favorite brand (and Rosamonte as well)! Greeting from Bulgaria!
Greetings!! You have good taste 🧉
I thought mate was supposed to be bitter. I drink cerasse all the time and that's bitter. Mate tastes like drinking water to me. Maybe my tastebuds are shot. Btw, I have that brand in my pantry at the moment. I need a bitter mate
I personally have not had cerasse but have heard how bitter it is from others. Unfortunately, I do not know of a yerba that compares to the bitterness of cerasse, but maybe our community can help share some ideas. What are you thoughts on the Canarias yellow bag?
@yerbatravels I absolutely love it. I drink it every day. As a Jamaican, I was brought up drinking all kind of teas every day and Canarias is another addition to my menu of teas.
Where did you purchase your Yerba?
I like when you speak Spanish, you're trying. I respect that
Thank you @GreySpyder.
Do you find this one energising instead of calming?
I found this one to be more calming than energizing. It does provide a bit of pick me up but not as much as other yerbas.
@@yerbatravels nice. Hopefully you can do all other La Merced lines like Barbacua, De Monte, and Campo Sur.
Mexican here (meaning, a native Spanish speaker lol), Mañana means both "morning" and "tomorrow", in this context, like @jisa39 said, it literally means "little morning", BUT when we say "mañanita" we usually mean "really early in the morning", or "first thing in the morning". Example: Voy a tomarme un mate en la mañanita = I'm going to have a mate first thing in the morning, or I'm going to have a mate early in the morning :)
I really appreciate what you're doing, love yerba mate!
Thank you @plant9594!! I appreciate you watching my videos :) I love yerba mate, too 😁
