Welcome back man, nice review. I used to have Impact Pros till I got some weird tearing at the top of the shoe from rubbing on my cranks or something. Got the freeriders recently ish and they're pretty good it's all I need tbh.
Fox union. Love mine. Had free riders before. Grip is a bit better but shoe isn’t stiff enough. Fox shoe toe box is nice and wide too. They are a bit low cut around the ankle though. A mid top would make them perfect.
Freerider pro is the best flat shoe. Wish it had ankle protection but other than that it’s better than the regular freerider with toe protection and a stiffer sole. I can usually find a pair for around $50-60 usd if I shop around.
I live in the US, so I don't know any other sizing. I love the livewire, but I had to go up 1/2 size and they are still a hair small. I haven't had any problems with them while riding, but they rub a little when walking on steep trails. The Hellion Elite is a little bigger, they fit great, they are slightly stiffer, they have more toe protection, they are more water resistant. They get a little hotter in the summer. I would like to try the Tallac, but they will need to go on a big FN sale!
I got a pair of the RC Hellion's 1/2 size bigger than normal. Excellent fit! I got mine from MTB Direct or Pushys website, I can't remember, but they where a very good price.
even being a heavy shoe, fiveten impact are the most comfortable shoe ive ever worn, I considered buying another pair for work, but because of the soft rubber it leaves marks everywhere
Got my sam hill impacts for almost 2 years, coming from a set of freeriders. Needed the rigidity of them as my feet bended over the pedals. But it seems they discontinued them, I can no longer find them only impacts and impacts pro.
Might have the same issue as me, one foot 1/2 size bigger than the other. Have RC's and have the toe issues a little bit, but less than the free rider pros and leatts.
If you are getting toe pinch on descents have you tried lacing them differently so that the lower lace eyelets are not pulled closer together but the upper laces hold your foot so it is not able to slide forward and pinch that little toe? Maybe not lace the bottom two eyelets? Worked for me, I have wide feet. There is always amputation? I use 5ten impact pros and think they are great, I also have RC wildcats and sometimes have my feet leave the pedals where as thee 5tens always seem locked to the pedal. The wildcats seem hard wearing and the sole seems to be concave rather than flat.
Have a look at the RC Wildcats next time , they`ve got the extra bit of ankle protection . Bit of a pain putting them on with the laces and strap but my feet certainly feel protected and secure . My feet kinda feel naked when I put the 5/10`s on . And the newer Wildcat versions definitely have way better grip than the older ones . Maybe take those RC`s of yours to a cobbler and see if they can stretch them out a bit to make them a bit wider . My latest pair of wildcats did have a problem on the right shoe being tight in the toe area , but after a few rides they must of stretched and now feel fine . Strange though because they were half a size bigger than my previous wildcats which were perfect fit from the get go . They must be using new molds or something .

What do you mean by cloggy when you talk about the Impact pros? Do you mean the foot is somehow a bit swimming in a big rigid upper? Also how is the pedal feel compared to the sam hill impacts? I ran the sam hill impacts with the pre-adidas rubber for 3 years now but they're about to die any minute.
@@nicolasdoebeli3355 like they feel like old german cligs (wooden shoes). They don’t feel at all flexible to me. Grip is similar to the sam Hill but with a different pattern. The sole is a touch thinner as well but only just
@@nicolasdoebeli3355 I prefer the sole thickness of the impact pro, but the feel of the Impact on the pedals is better for me purely due to the flexibility
@@dc2rb18cr I’m running the Cleanskin composite pedal at the moment at 45 bucks a pair. And they’ve been perfect. I don’t like a convex pedal like the 1up. Raceface atlas are great. The Bontrager composites are good, i ran the nukeproofs for ever as well. Dmr vault also great
Yo Jeansy it's Hughesy here, what size are you? Might be able to help you out with some shoe prices or better yet borrow my personal hellons or tallecs I got not long ago in size I think one was 10.5 and the other 11 US. I've got access to Aften shoes if they interest you at all as well? They're well priced at $80. Haven't heard enough real life opinions on them yet though 🤔
@@mtbtelly5522 yeah sweet as I’ll double check my sizes and when I’m near your way will get them to you. I might then turn a size 11 Aften shoe into a personal one for me so you can have a free test first and give ya true verdict as you do without forking out the $$

The wide toe box in the Union is a winner for me too. Been pretty happy with them
I'm on my second pair, this time with boa and absolutely love it. The only other shoe I'd try would be the Talloc

as someone with wide mid foot, 510 freerider is my only option... also i have found them being a lot narrower when they were bought by adidas
