I don’t know if there are even any achievements for it, so it does feel somewhat pointless in this game. It feels like it was tacked on at the last minute. Non-lethal is something I really enjoy in Metal Gear Solid series because it adds to the challenge and fits perfectly into those games, but then it’s also executed so much better in those games because they are designed specifically to incorporate the option. They also have mechanics that mean to you have to deliberately make an effort to kill an enemy, where SE5 seems to like doing it for you. Shoot an enemy in a vehicle with non-lethal? He dies. Passively take down an enemy in stairs? He often will phase through and there’s a good chance he will die as a result. Certain objectives also require the assassination of certain targets. Even if you shoot the target in mission 9 (the final main campaign mission) with non-lethal, he dies, I guess because killing him from range is the only option. I hope that if they do continue non-lethal in future entries of the series that they will take it into consideration during the design phase and make it more rewarding to play non-lethal by fixing some of these issues, but honestly I’m not sure its very worthwhile at all in a game that has a heavy emphasis on gory X-ray cams and where shooting Nazis in the balls is a marketable feature. 😂

Darth Stark's 'ammo in the custom pistol' explanation is correct, btw. He was watching his footage back as he was describing it, that's how he knew what happened. It was news to me, I didn't know some of the custom weapon pick-ups came with special ammo! The bugs only seem to affect enemies that have been passively subdued. My suspicion is that we're encountering a bug where when a soldier is woken, they instantly know our 'current' location for some reason. I think that's why there were multiple occasions where we would be 'spotted' without being in visual range of any enemies. I think its similar or related to the bug where snipers fire at you even if they can't see you and you are hundreds of meters away (that one only happens during invasions for some reason). I thought I'd seen pretty much all of the glitches/quirks in this game, but honestly I was also surprised by how 'broken' the game got when we were doing this!

Darth Stark gets all the attention! The enemy loves him, right up until the point where he accidentally kills them.

A lot of people only came here for the Axis Invasion stuff, which is fine. I do mix it up a bit and play loads of different types of games, old and new. There's more non-SE stuff coming, alonside more SE stuff from various games across the series. The missus doesn't do SE, though. We tried it a few years back but she doesn't like sniping!

I was trying to play it carefully at least a bit! Stark thought the generator sound cover was constant so kept shooting even when it wasn't backfiring! The moments where I was getting my sneak on, loud rifle fire would ring out behind me alerting the AI. If you can't beat them, join them!

@@duckwit85 Ah yeah. I love trying to play stealthy, but when it kicks off, I just roll with it. SE can be at its best when it all goes to shit! This level is a great opener to the game, as you can pick and choose your approach, and retreat easily if it gets too hot. It's easy enough for noobs, and offers good long-range shooting opportunities for the more experienced, so there's a nice balance. I do think there was was a missed opportunity right at the end though - Karl should have had to hold the villa against reinforcements arriving below him in the village! It's such a perfect sniping position, but unless you've stealthed it all the way there, you've probably already killed most of the enemies by the time you arrive! Even on SE4 I wish they'd just kept pouring in more reinforcements, but the radioman (not on this level) often takes his sweet time to do so, and then you only get half a dozen enemies arriving...

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel about it. Too many bugs that never got fixed!

It’s more to do with the fact that Harry’s posh accent is oddly German, probably because he’s voiced by Klemens Koehring, a German voice actor putting in an upper-class English accent and honestly he does an amazing job, but it slips every few words and sounds odd. Darth Stark does have very clear diction although his accent isn’t posh. I’ve heard him doing a posh accent and Mr Koehring is better at it! 🤣

Now that’s a film I’ve not seen in a long time! If you mean the bald Spectre guy with the leather jacket, I agree completely. That’s Walter Gotell, a German-born actor who moved to Britain and had a long career in films. The blonde guy was played by Robert Shaw, an English actor whose accent is slightly weird in that film for some reason, I think maybe because of the 60’s audio recording quality.

@@duckwit85 I meant Robert Shaw’s character, specifically when he and Bond are on the train together and it’s those small inaccuracies in his speech that clue Bond in.

Nice! Someday maybe I'll give it a go... for now though the thought of inevitably screwing up and having to replay from the start of a mission is a bit too daunting!

sniper elite 4 graphical/lighting style is so much better than 5s at least in my opinion

It was very cool seeing them flying off in silhouette when I was editing this. I don't remember noticing it when we were playing, but it was one of those right place, right time things. I got very lucky!

His videos on the aiming are the only videos about aiming in SE4 that I've seen that were actually helpful to me. That said, I clearly need to watch them again!

@@English_Speaking_Fox Sorry, I think you misunderstood what I meant, and I can see why based on how I've written it. What I meant were that his videos on aiming were the only videos about aiming that I found that were any good and had a method that could be applied in game. I didn't mean in comparison to his other stuff. I'll change my wording so its clearer.

I found that using a wall or surface with a landmark close to your target was useful. Aim for the landmark fire and check impact mark for elevation and drift. Adjust your aim on target by that amount.

God, no. I have thousands of hours in both, and SE4 is infinitely more challenging. Shooting in SE5 is a piece of piss. Pull off a real long-shot in SE4 - now that's an achievement. I enjoy SE5. But it's buggy, too easy, and was clearly released in an unfinished state. SE4 has no bugs to speak of, is properly difficult at harder settings, and was 100% DONE on release.

@Nifter71 The only bug in SE4 is the DX12 version of the game on PC seems to have an issue where it pumps 80% of the audio into my left speaker. The DX11 version is perfect, so I stick with that. SE5 on the other hand crashes often on the menus and has some frustrating network latency issues with online play. If you look at scenery elements in SE5 there are floating lamp posts, floating telegraph poles, misaligned railings, etc and holes in the scenery in places. There are also spots where you can literally walk into the scenery and phase through it. All the patches and those things are still in the game to this day. I don't recall seeing anything like that in the previous games.

I know the room you mean and I think you are correct. The weapons in there are highly appropriate for someone who triggers alarms, so I think it’s deliberate!

I actually mentioned in this video that I was making some more. Recently I haven’t had time for anything (this video was recorded 2 months ago), and the next few weeks are also likely to be busy. While there are some more invasion videos in production, it’s proving a chore to do. I recorded 20 matchups in my last session and only 6 didn’t die to AI or quit on me. Not even half a video from a 3 hour session. I just don’t have the time to waste with a yield that low. With that said, my next 100 kills will be my last, so probably 5 more Invasion videos to come, but it will take a while. In the meantime I’m having much more fun playing with my friends. That’s more fun and interesting for me right now and people are subscribing for that content too. I understand you probably came here only for invasion content but the fact is that the game is 2 years old and it’s starting to run out of mileage. I am genuinely sorry if you don’t find content like this as fun or interesting, but there are lots of other people making that content now and doing a better job than I could. After those 100 kills, I won’t be playing as invader until the next game comes out. By the time I’ve finished making those videos, though, that might be sooner than it sounds! Feel free to stick around and wait for them, I promise they are coming eventually, but there will be more videos like this one and probably other videos for previous games coming out in the mean time.
