Peony Season is Fleeting & Updates Around the Flower Farm
I’ve got a whole list I’m working down before the snow flies, hopefully!
Those are beautiful! Bugs can be frustrating! I sprayed mine with BT. That worked well. I am pretty sure it was a squirrel, but a critter ate mine to the ground. The squirrels also ate my broccoli. I did not realize that squirrels liked eating brassica plants.
Thanks! They are a challenge for me to grow - I gave up on broccoli and cauliflower.
Hey Tara, looks great! This was my first year and I planted my kale too early but mother nature kicked in and provided tons of pups on all my plants that I was able to remove and use in my mason jar bouquets.
That’s awesome!!
The kale looks great, kudos to you for sharing the results. For caterpillar damage I’m going to try BT spray (google Ferti Lome Caterpillar killer with BT). I got the 16 oz bottle that mixes 4 tbsp / gallon to spray on leaves, so 16oz should last a while. I think it also works on the nat fly larvae that plague my seedlings in my seed starting area in the basement. BT is the same active ingredient in mosquito dunks. It’s OMRI approved so it’s not supposed to be toxic. OK for animals, worms etc. If it’s good enough for Charles Dowding (of no dig fame) then it is good enough for me.
Thank you - that’s what I’m thinking I’m going to have to use something. Love Charles D!!
😊
I have to do a lot of netting to keep out pests. What I use is either cement mesh, which I bend or I think they’re called cement ladders, which I uses hoops. I then get Tulle netting from Walmart and use clothespins to connect to the hoops or metal trellis and anchor it to ground using 4’ lengths of rebar along the sides so the bottom is all closed up. I reuse the material several times. I will try to post a photo in here if I can.
Wow! What a great sounding set up!!
😮😊🎉
Hi Tara, I have had success with Sahara Rudbeckia overwintering. I am in Illinois zone 6a (previously 5b). I do cover them with leaves. I hope they overwinter for you.
Thank you!! I’m hopeful. I will put a heavy layer of leaves on the row for sure!!
Thanks for doing this video. This is my first year attempting to grow hardy annuals, and im in zone 5b, so your information is very helpful.
Thank you - they are so rewarding once you get the hang of it for your climate!
Wow, lots of seedlings for spring flowers!!
Hi Tara! Where do you purchase your plugs from?
Farmer Bailey and Ball/Colorlink!
Where did you get your seeds ? Your vine is beautiful
Thanks! I’ve been saving seeds for quite a few years now but I think Johnny’s, Bakers Creek and Renee’s all have them, maybe selling under a different name.
Great tips! Thanks for sharing😊
Thank you!!
I think eucalyptus is a lot hardier than you think. I wouod leave in the field you know they grow in tasmania in the mountains were it gets down to -12 c or colder ...
I’ve tried to overwinter them in my field for the last two years with no luck. We get to -20F here and it just zaps them.
How exciting! ✨
😊
This is so exciting! 🎉
Yes it is!
Wow, what an exciting development for you! Bravo! :D
Thank you! 😃
Everything looks great! I grew a lot of foxgloves this year. The one thing I do is I use Bio-tone starter in every hole, and everything did great!
What was your favorite foxglove?
@@wildbirdfarm My favorite this year was Foxglove - white from Select Seeds and Apricot Beauty.
@PLD244 thank you!!
Very nice. 😊
Thank you! 😊
Could you please share the brand for your space heater? thank you!
I bought off Amazon. Here is the link - a.co/d/bFVdpPm
😊
Hello, thank you for your video. I would like to reproduce this in my home here in Germany. It is necessary to have the tray with these sharped sticks, or can we put them just in water?
Possibly with gravel on the bottom of a flat container? I think you need space for the roots. And you’ll need to change the water often which the prick trays make very easy.
Valuable information in these times we’re living in…anything to save $. I am learning to make my own raised bed soil. And this will be my second winter to seed start which I found last year to be very satisfying.
Love this! Starting seeds saves a lot of $!
Seed saving has become a passion of mine. Within one year of learning how to collect seeds from various plants, I was able to collect thousands and share with so many friends and community members.
That is wonderful!!
Thank you so much for these videos. I built a hydroponics system for my soil blocks. Do you think there's a difference between circulating water vs stagnant water?
Circulating is probably to better but for tulips I found changing it out every few days worked fine.
Where do you store bulbs you are waiting to grow out for Easter?
This year, I am having my supplier mail them just before I want to start them. Last season, I got them early and stored them in a fridge with decent success. I did have some of the bulbs shrivel up too much to grow in hydroponic trays.
@@wildbirdfarm Thank you.
I love dividing perennials. I will have to try to save my geraniums this year too!
😃
It made a big difference!
I think so too - thanks!
Chrysanthemums are very easy to take cuttings from. I enjoy watching your videos.
Thank you. Great idea - I will try some cuttings next spring!
Harvested over 10 full mason jars of chamomile this year by hand, and I really wish I had this bad boy.
Oh wow, that’s great! Yes, it’s definitely a big time saver for me!
Love the lavender hedge. The white contrast in the garden is really nice too.
😊 thank you!
Please reveal where you buy your tubers. I keep buying mislabeled varieties.
I usually buy from smaller growers who have spring sales. You can join Dahlia grower groups on Facebook to find out about sales. I have also bought from Swan Island.
Absolutely gorgeous 😍
Thank you!!
Beautiful flowers, lovely variety, excellent quality. Well done you😊
Thanks so much!

I planted seeds on an old tv antenna tower on the side of my son's house this year. We,ve estimated it grew at least 15 ft up the tower. Well past the roofline of my son's ranch house. I grow them yearly, my daughter grows them yearly, my sister is growing them for the first time this year, and I've shared seeds with friends to grow too! Love purple hyacinth bean vine!❤

Yes, gives a nice touch. I really like this kind of video btw! What kind of eucalyptus did you use in your bouquet, it's gorgeous!
Thank you-I appreciate that! This is silver dollar euc.
Very pretty! I agree, white can add a lot.
Do you cool the flowers before arranging them?
I let them rest in a cool, dark room. I don’t have a cooler (yet!)
Team deep rich color for fall, but honestly, they're all gorgeous!
Thank you! 🌟
What’s your go to size for organza bags? Beautiful blooms ❤
6x9 inch works for what I have. I don’t have any dinner plate size tho. I’d use 9x12 for those.
Both are beautiful! September feels like it could go either way. Towards the end of September, I prefer the jewel tones.
Sept has been so warm here lately it’s hard to get into the jewel tones.
