How do you manage wild life. Rabbits having their way in our garden. Great tips for the Japanese beetles

For rabbits I use wire dollar tree trash cans upside down for single plants. For a large row, like my tulips, I use liquid fence. Usually one spray lasts a week+!

Milky spore worked for me. It drastically reduced the number of these beetles in my garden and made it way easier to manually remove the remaining.

I am so happy to hear this! I will do a second application this fall!

Yes, I did 3 applications of milky spore last year, with 2 applications in 2022, and this year there is a significant decrease in numbers (so far...fingers crossed) and hand picking each year too

That’s great to hear - I am committed to another application this fall!

What sort of stakes are you using with your dahlias? Ugh, beetle season has started here in Southern VT too. For some weird reason we see fewer rose chafers than we used to, but the Japanese beetles and asiatic garden beetles are the main pests. I've been thinking about netting like yours, though, usually when I'm out stalking them with my bucket of soapy water. I'll be interested to see how it works out for you; good luck!

I’m not sure what they are called but the are slim silver metal posts with a triangle at the bottom to push with your foot into the soil. They work well for me and easy to put in/take out. We get them at Menards, a home improvement store.

I also use milky spore, and apply in early Fall and in mid-Spring when the temperature is reliably staying above 50 (Zone 4b/5a). Haven't had a huge problem since. Sure, we do see a few, but not the thousands we had been battling.

That’s great to hear - I will be on top of the milky spore again this fall!

The Japanese Beatles have taken out every rose bloom I had and now are going after the green beans, dahlias, marigolds and petunias. I sprayed with some captain Jack's but we are having a lot of rain so it doesn't help.

Ugh. Thats such a bummer. We work so hard to see things ruined by them. I had a whole rose garden planned out a few years ago and after they destroyed all my climbing ones, I scratched that idea.

The Japanese beetles are eating everything . What works to get rid of them at one treatment ?

I think people use Sevin (or there’s an Eight) now too. I used that years ago and it would kill on contact but you’d probably need to spray every other day or so if they keep coming in.
