The song is about nothing too special. It's about what children go through. The car crash is the kid being so traumatized, that he has been left scarred. If someones hair turns white, this is because, in folklore and comedic storytelling, they saw a ghost, most of the time. Something you saw, or happened to you, that made you faint and made you traumatized. So hard, that the white goes from your hair and face, all the color gone, you aged decades from this, only mentally of course. The girl with the spots is about kids not understanding that some people just are the way they are, in this case, the girl can only say that "they just always been there". The last is the kid born to ultra religious fanatics who believe in the prayer so hard, the fall to the floor and start to spasm and freak out, as one can see on television preacher shows, they start to shake from the power of god, but it is just overly dramatic acting of them because they WANT to be this engaged. The kid has no way to comprehend this, as he "just goes there", he doesn't understand. That's all the song is about. Not understanding, why others are like this, or why things are like this, as, they just "happen". For all 3 kids for different reason. The first kid from trauma, the second girl cant explain anything cause you cannot change your body, and the last boy just can't get it since he doesnt feel the connection. Also them relating to each other and agreeing that the other kid has it worse, is a great show of character growth. A terrifying accident where the kid almost died, and the girl being looked at and examined for being "weird", both grew from it, and agree that they don't even have it bad, but the other kid has. The other, church kid, has it not bad at all either, just grows up in a different household, so its all just the 3 characters coping and growing in their own right from something they cannot change or influence.

Yes, exactly. This is Canada's famine relief effort for Ethiopia in 1985. Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas and USA for Africa's We Are the World are ALL for the same cause, as is Live Aid that summer. I'm glad you've reacted to this. Not many people have. Great reaction.

It is truly a well-written ballad... The part where he says, the lake never gives up her dead, is a true fact. Many people have drowned in the lake over the years. Very few, if any, were recovered. The frigid water prevents the bodies from floating up to the surface. Additionally, Lake Superior is very big and quite deep. It is, actually, the world's largest freshwater lake, containing 2,900 cubic miles (12,100 km) of water. Its average depth is 80.5 fathoms (483 ft; 147 m), and its maximum depth is 222.17 fathoms (1,333 ft; 406 m).

Edmund Fitzgerald, American freighter that sank during a storm on November 10, 1975, in Lake Superior, killing all 29 aboard. Its mysterious demise inspired Gordon Lightfoot’s hit song “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” (1976), which helped make it the most famous shipwreck in the Great Lakes.

The entire project is about Chanie wenjeck, a first Nations indigenous boy in 1966, who tried to find his way home running away from a residential school where hundreds of thousands of Indigenous children were forced from their homes to attend all across Canada suffering extreme abuse in all forms. The entire project secret path tell the whole story of Chanie's journey until his end. Definitely recommend watching it in full. 🧡

For kicks, it's interesting to debate who was not yet quite famous enough to be included, or possibly unavailable. Oh yeah, for a huge number of Canadians of several generations, The Guess Who is canada's all time greatest band. Burton Cummings was the lead singer and keyboard player, Yes, he sang American Woman.

Love our Canadian treasure, Joni Mitchell. It is worth the time to listen to this song by Joni from her original recording. And then listen to a more current version by her. Both are fantastic, but the more recent version sounds very seasoned and she displays a huskier voice that convinces you she has thoroughly lived life from both sides. She is so special. Thanks for reacting to dear Joni, who still performs. In fact, in 2021, she was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors and recently appeared at the Newport Folk Festival and brought the house down. 👏👏👏🥰🇨🇦❤️

The water temp in the lake hovers around 45 degrees. The night that happened there was a storm system coming up from lower Michigan with alot of moisture. It was moving north at a steady pace. At the same time a clipper was coming down from Canada from the west. Apparently the idea was they might be able to beat the storm system to Whitefish Bay. They miscalculated and the result was 30-35ft waves, freezing rain and snow, and 60-70mph winds. Gordon Lightfoot never accepted a dime for this song. Every penny it made went into a fund and was dispersed to the families of the men that were on the Fitzgerald. The sister ship to the Fitzgerald is still in use. The Arthur M Anderson still makes short runs. Every year on November 10 at about 7:20 pm they blow a signal tribute then blow a horn for the Fitzgerald. Kinda creepy to see if you ever get the chance!

Tash, when you watch the National Rememberence Day ceremony from Ottawa it is intense. The national tv network speaks as little as possible and allows the ceremony to play out. The wreath laying is especially emotional when you see the Silver Cross Mother lay a wreath for all the mothers of Canada and then the winners of the Legion's youth contest in essay writing, posters and poetry lay a wreath to represent the youth of Canada. At the end of the official ceremony many citizens take the poppy they have been wearing and place them on the Tomb Of The Unknown. Always brings a lump in my throat. The veterans then march past the VIP's present and the citizens on the sidewalks cheer and clap for the veterans. As Canadians we are quietly respectful of our veterans.
