This is band you need to SEE live. It's an experience. They are bouncing all over the place playing a multitude of instruments and the crowd is bouncing with them. I saw them in Buffalo, NY at an outdoor show in a primarily black district. People looked out the windows thinking "This ain't our kind of music". Two minutes later they were dancing in the street! At another show in Niagara the police security were dancing with the crowd! Their personalities and performances are infectious.
Saw Great Big Sea a few years ago on St Patrick's Day, fantastic show they put on. Celtic inspired music is huge in the Maritime provinces on our East coast. So many Irish and Scottish immigrants made them their home. Mary Mack is another great song by them you need to hear.
My favourite Great Big Sea song is The Night Pat Murphy Died. I was surprised when I heard it at the beginning of the movie State of Play.
the lead sing of the group Alan Doyle was in the movie Robin Hood (2010) his name in the movie Allan A'Dayle
you should check out there song "The Night Pat Murphy Died"
This song was written by the British group Oysterband. They started out as a folk dance band and then started mixing in punk and alt rock.
Yes. Great Big Sea did a few covers actually. But have some amazing songs of their own and also wind up having the best versions of the ones they cover.
I recall seeing them in Thunder Bay on a tour they did in the early 2000s. It was when they first released "Sea of No Cares" on the album of the same name. Another great song by them is "Ordinary Day", which I believe they once used a small portion of in a TV ad for the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Great Big Sea is from the East Coast of Canada; PEI, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, New Brunkswick.. they all have very folk inspired music; a lot of fiddles and irish roots which is why Great Big Sea's music has that sound.
Favourite bands for me 🖐️ TX from Québec Canada 🇲🇶🇨🇦👌
When I recommend Great Big Sea this is the song I avoid, I love it and I remember that summer in the early 90's when this was released. However this is the song that went mainstream and became a hit and this group is far better in their deeper tracks like "Lukey's Boat", "Mari Mac", or "The night that Paddy Murphy died"
added I loved this band so more to come :)
This song is a total smile in audio form.
I was lucky enough to see them on the XX tour which was the final tour before they disbanded.
Check out their song Mary Mac
Love this song, thanks for checking it out.
If you want a Canadian song, you should react to 80's famine relief song "Tears are not enough" from Canadian Super Group Northern Lights.
Definitely check out Stan Rogers. He's a classic Canadian folk singer. Northwest Passage and Barretts Privateers are probably his best known songs but my favourites are Down the Road, 45 years and Make and Break Harbour
One of my favourite bands even though I am from the big smoke
You should try Mari Mac, I think you'd like it.
The singer, Alan Doyle, has become good friends with Russel Crowe.
I always thought that this song was about experiencing bipolar disorder. It's all fun and games until you "can't get down, can't get level". I love Great Big Sea, because they sound so very Newfie.
You should also do a reaction to Spirit of the West "Home for a Rest".
check out Walk off the Earth
Hey Tash, I love Kevin Bloody Wilson, he's such a treasure and what my brain thinks of in terms of an Aussie folk singer. Just how popular is he down there? My favorite is you can't say cunt in Canada.
You'll also want to check out Stan Rogers.
Love great big se,a..... so many good and fun sea songs.... love ya already for listening, Sub'd
Love these guys, so good. I would like to suggest a couple songs. From the band Our Lady Peace the songs "Clumsy" and "Innocent" and from the band The Tragically Hip the songs "Courage" and "Blow At High Dough".
Hi Tash ❤ you should check out Stompin Tom Conners all of his songs are about Canada 🇨🇦 however sadly he passed away in 2013 at the age of 77. He was a true Canadian icon
Best of all Canadian bands is rush . Watch the snakes and arrows tour they are known as musicians band
Hey Tash that was new for me as well. Great listen..
Great Big Sea is a favourite here in Newfoundland and Labrador. They started recording 30 years ago and have released 9 studio albums and 3 live albums, and are a great party band! I (obviously) don't know the first thing about copyright infringement or UA-cam rules, but if you are able to choose to react to some of their music videos that are shot at one of their concerts, I think that watching the audience interactions with the band make the music that much more enjoyable! Thanks for this reaction to Great Big Sea!
There isn't a bad song on any album. If you like Alan's singing check out his solo stuff. Just as good.

Hey @AussieTashEnt you should check out Bryan Adams & Jeff Healy
Great idea to have a separate music channel. If you want to hear more folk music, try Gordon Lightfoot. He's a great story teller.
@Sheila Kearney Gordon's a national treasure ❤
Tragically Hip was one of the best bands ever... Check out Fiddler's green

NewfndLAND.
Lots of Maritime and Newfoundland influence.
And he's cute lol
Sorry to see your video about the Wreck of The Edmund FitzGerald was blocked by Warner Music copyright. I know it's disappointing for you, too. I guess it's a bit of a learning curve to figure out how many seconds you can let a song/video run before the copyright is triggered. Don't be discouraged. You'll figure it out. 😊
Cheer mate will drop another one tomorrow
