The list of books on mindfulness has gotten cut off.
I love your channel! You are the first one I have that talks about the phases and how to cope with this new you as a VSG patient. Thank you!
I am waiting on my surgery date.
I love my creami
How can Ai help?
I have bipass surgery 3 weeks ago and everything tastes awful. I HOPE this changes .
For me, alot of things taste too sweet...🤔
It’s hard to eat around other people who seem to eat very fast.
My date is June 3 for RNY.
So exciting!
I was on a liquid diet for a few months after I got shot 5 times resulting in a 12 hour surgery. Liquid diet sucks!
Oh my goodness that is terrible on so many levels!!!
Almost 4 weeks out from gastric sleeve surgery. Had one cup coffee caffinated. I normally use to drink rarely 2 cups a day of coffee before i stopped drinking coffee and soda and soda stream. Gatorade 0 has been my step down drug . L.o.l. i found it very hard to keep my thirst up for fluids this week. So i thought i would try a medium size dill pickle. Could not bring myself to purred it. But chewing 30 times each bite was just wonderful. I actually have a thirst for water for the afternoon. Have not got sick from the dill pickle but have to be careful not to gulp my water for thirst was something i was missing for a while for i don't salt food for i am completely off blood pressure medications loosing total 80 lbs in 9 months. Blood pressure normal so far eating a medium dill pickle a day. Nice to have a thirst for plain old water back. Coffee i can take it or leave it.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Pickles are a surprising stable for a lot of post-ops 😆
Its interrsting because here in germany yoi have diffrent phases for example post op 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks soft/purred, 2/3 weeks and then 2 weeks again Also 4 days in hospital and at least 1litre water intake Low fat and carbs It feels like nothing good and pretty hard..
That sounds very challenging. We have some conservative approaches here in the states but probably not that conservative!
My program has advised that more than 8 oz an hour can stretch the pouch. What is your thoughts on that?
Liquids won't stretch the pouch, although early after surgery when your pouch is inflamed and healing from the operation they will have you sip small amounts to not cause you discomfort, overfill you or lead to nausea/vomiting that can be hard on a newly sutured stomach. The further you get out you can drink as much as is comfortable to reach your fluid goals.
This was great info!! I am so glad I found your channel.
So glad it was helpful!
22 days post gastric sleeve .big adjustment going to pureed. Doing 2 meals shakes to meals pureed. Only vomited one time but mind having hard time accepting that i can be so full with so little. Down around 30 lbs in 22 days but the 36 hrs. In hospital i was pumped full fluids that my feet were even swollen. Thanks for the info on filling so full the mind and body are having a struggle to get on same paige. At this point ill take hunger pains over filling so full i have to walk around to get relief. I fill the best on the 4mile daily walk. I lost 80 lbs in this 9 month journey no more blood pressure medications or diabetic meds and insulin. Im a 67 year old male retired and starting to enjoy the new me. Glad i measured my body girth at different areas for my neck alone went from 32 inches around to 20 and went from 50 plus waist to 44 inches. I'm 253 lbs from 333 lbs. August 2023.
Congratulations on all your health improvements! Keep those bite sizes small in case you're experiencing "premature fullness" where you stop eating after a couple of bites because of discomfort but get hungry in a couple of hours. Small bites like tetris will allow you to fill comfortably at your meal :) Yes...a small amount for sure!
Happy I found your channel I’m having VSG surgery this Thursday I’m excited but nervous lol
Congratulations! I think nervous excitement is a very appropriate feeling! ;)
After asking it for recipes and ingredients you can ask for it to create your shopping list and then you can also ask it to "create a shopping list with prices from Aldi". The prices might not be exact but should give you a good idea.
That's a great idea! Thank you for sharing!
really protein chicken broth sounds good as heck and different
Yes, all the sweet stuff gets so old. Savory tends to be a winner for most patients!
Do you have a version of this not sped up?
UA-cam has an option to slow down the play speed. There is a small icon of a gear at the bottom of the video. Select playback speed on that menu and then you can slow it down.
Great straight forward advice. I have my gastric bypass on june 17 2024 here in Edinburgh, Scotland.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the comment!
Great Video
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the comment!
Thank you, how long between sips of water ?
There is no set rule, whatever feels right and comfortable to you is fine!
Yes I had my surgery on May 6th and my taste isn't the same at all the shakes taste horrible but I'm pushing through
It's not for the faint of heart! You can try the protein broths or add unflavored protein to broths if it's helpful. I know you'll be so excited for some soft foods!!
My mouth was so pasty and i had a hard time drinking water during my PRE op diet...now I'm ok with liquids but still working on it.
My surgery is 5/29, I'm going to come back to this video at that time for a refresher. lol
Yes! And for the phases to come too!
That’s my date also
Mine too! 5/29
How ironic, I'm watching this now and saw this comment. I'm 6 days post op
How are you doing after surgery?
😁 'promo sm'
I am a month post op for having the sleeve done. I just started the puree stage of the diet. I have had pureed egges for breakfast and pureed ground beef for lunch. and then tuna for dinner. I got so tired of protein shakes. I am glad to be on this stage of the diet.
Yes the hardest part is behind you! You're doing great. This time is all about healing and learning how to eat to feel your best. When you graduate to the next stage the training wheels come off so it's a great time to practice!
On my 4th day of post liquid diet...I CAN'T STAND the "flavorless" protein powder it makes me wanna throw up!! I just add skim milk powder but i can't stand the taste of both....i know it's a slow process, but I'm dreamijg if the day I'll get to have an egg 😄😄
I'm 4 weeks out from a revision to bypass from Sleeve (2017). I've pretty much maintained my weight loss from the sleeve but would love to lost another 20 pounds. My question is, after sleeve I never wanted to look at another protein shake. They are so syrupy sweet. Now I'm back to protein drinks to make sure I'm getting my protein in. Just the thought of another shake makes my stomach start to turn. I power through because I know I need the protein. I do eat yogurt but lactose is proving to be a bit of a challenge. Do you have any advice for quality protein sources other than shakes/protein waters?
As you get further out from yoru revision and inflammation goes down you'll be able to get your protein in your foods at your meals, so that will come! When you're eating around 3 ounces per meal you have hit the 60 grams of protein a day goal from the ASMBS. In the meantime you could also try protein cocoa or protein soups (Healthwise is a company that makes those types of options, there are lots of others. Unjury Chicken Soup is another). Here is a link to grab my free food list and you can look over the protein section for more ideas! bariatricfoodcoach.ck.page/22d5873f8c
@@BariatricFoodCoach Thank you so much! I recently tried Quest protein chips. I don't eat the whole serving at one time but they seem to sit well.
Really sensible advice
I'm so glad you think so! Thanks for the comment :)
I went from a sleeve to Gastric Bypass this past Monday. After a year of SEVERE HEARTBURN, ACID REFLUX!!! I dont remember being in this much pain. I stayed at the hospital for 2 nights. Now im home feeling lost all over again.
I'm so sorry for all the discomfort, pain and additional surgeries! May it all be behind you soon. I have a comprehensive library of education and resources at www.bariatricfoodcoach.com/ - hop on the email list while you're there and get a weekly email with tips and recipes. I have GERD and this sounds like me
No fun! Here is a blog about GERD and Bariatric Surgery with some recipes too. I hope it helps! www.bariatricfoodcoach.com/reflux-after-gastric-sleeve-bypass/
What a revelation! Great tips, thanks Steph!
You're so welcome! Have fun playing with it!
Im almost three weeks out from bypass and lost 9 lbs in the first 6 days and nothing over the next 10. Im totally panicked and dont kno what im doing wrong
Stalls at three weeks post-op are incredibly common! I know it's scary but it's normal. I have a 10 Day Habit Refresh series that might be a good fit for you to go through and see if anything could be tweaked. www.bariatricfoodcoach.com/day-1-habit-refresh-meal-structure/
@@BariatricFoodCoach thanks for the response I'll check it out
thank you for this video.
I'm glad it was helpful! Thanks for the comment!
Yum I miss ice cream. 3 weeks post op
Congrats! This is a great option. The trick is holding back some of the protein shake. Spin it once, add the rest of the shake and then re-spin. Also, that machine is loud!
I so agree with you. Eggs made me sick the first time. Maybe too many bites. Tried again in a few days and no problems.
Yes! Great example of noticing and trying again mindfully. It's a big learning curve!
I'm 3 weeks post op and I am just now being able to bring protein shakes back in. Making puddings with it helps. My taste buds are starting to come back. I was worried about it and my team said worry about my fluid intake 1st. The rest will follow. Definitely not the easy way out. It's a process
YES! Such a process. I agree with your team, hydration is the biggest concern and the rest we have some time to work with. Congrats on surgery!
I found this very helpful. Thanks!!
Glad it was helpful!
What about sugar alcohols?
Thank you for the comment! This is the additional information: Protein bars at Walmart Neighborhood Market near me. I like bars that are balanced in protein to carbs without more than 10 grams of fat..for the most part. Not everyone needs a full bar, but an almost 1:1 ratio of protein to carb is a good goal 👌🏻Sugar alcohols impact patients differently. One bars have a few less grams of sugar alcohols than Quest and may be more suitable for some post-ops. FitCrunch, Built Puff and Pure Protein each have 8 grams of sugar alcohols. For some, it’ll be fine. For others they may have gas, bloating or loose stools 🤓 When to use protein bars? Great for travel or for really busy days like when you are stuck at the zoo with kids and your packed lunch is not holding you over and it’s 4 pm (a very specific example).
Dry and kinda rubbery 😢
You can also put a lid over the skillet to trap in moisture and remove it form heat at 160 F
I wish my bariatric centers dietician seemed and good as you The rd for my place is shit. Okay maybe if you’re just a sleever it’s fine. But she tells every patient the same info regardless of surgery Example. I had a duodenal switch. She told me I needed 40-60 grams of protein And that I’d be low fat for the rest of my life When both of those are super wrong for DS And. I had to fight to get 6 month lab work cause she said oh we don’t do that Sorry I’m ranting Oh and she keeps telling me I’m taking the wrong levels of vitamins But when I ask for clarification for amounts she never responds So… I listen to the veterans on DS Facebook groups. And to my labs
It can be hard to find the right fit! You can find out how to work with me more on BariatricFoodCoach.com ☺️
Good topic
Great content and thank you for sharing!
Honestly, this is so valuable. I haven’t had bariatric but I did have abdominal surgery. I’ve come down 100lbs already and am trying to figure out how to navigate strength training. This talk reaches a lot of different demographics of people with this same challenge. Thank you both for having this talk accessible here 🙏🏾
I'm so happy you enjoyed this discussion. Everyone needs to be strength training yet it can be intimidating to start. It's my goal to make it easier for people like you to start small!
Great video! I don't think exercise should be a bad word. I think people don't like it because they don't want to admit that exercise is necessary for health.
Glad you enjoyed it!! I find it super hard to stop saying exercise too 😜
