Near Disastrous Winter Road Trip on The Cabot Trail | 8,000km across the Country
In this episode, we travel the iconic route known as The Cabot Trail, where we'll conclude the Canadian leg of our Great North American Adventure. We may have started this drive a little too late in the season... sunshine turns to heavy rain & snow and then a pretty epic windstorm. Thanks to everyone for coming along on this journey with us !

We're Kyle, Alannah & Diesel! We're travelling in our self converted Chevy Express Camper van across North America. Three years ago, we found true freedom on the road as we made our way across Canada in our old SUV. After this trip, we decided we were going to spend our days living life to the fullest... We left our 9-5 jobs to pursue the things we're truly passionate about. You can always make more money, but your time on this earth is never guaranteed! Along the way, we hope we can inspire those who may be contemplating a similar lifestyle.

Hey guys, we've had a few pints at Gahan House in Charlottetown ourselves. It's always cool when you recognize someplace watching a video. Holy shit! When you were losing momentum going up that hill ,I thought don't slide backwards😬 Quite the pucker factory eh? Glad you came out of that okay!! I never appreciated how much elevation Cape Briton Island has. Play safe guys, you are always welcome to stay here as a home base for some central Ont winter camping. Looking forward to the next one

When you couldn't make it up the hill the 1st time why did you let your wife stay in the van with you? If the van had crashed going down you both might have been killed. She really should have just got outand walked back down with the dog. JMO. Silly to be going on those types of roads in remote places in a van. Safe driving.

@@MissX905 I see what you're saying for sure! Technically we didn't go up a second time, we waited at the bottom of the steep part when we knew it was a no go. I guess in our defense, the weather came in extremely fast. Now if we weren't helped by the kind local and I had no choice but to try again then they definitely would've been waiting at the bottom of the hill. We appreciate your concern 😁

Ok I’m actually to the videos i discovered you guys on..but gonna just rewatch these till i catch up with your newest. So Hyder is awesome we went there 2 times, first time I actually didn’t know there was a glacier at the end of the road 🤦🏻‍♀️ we turned around after a bit past the bear viewing…2nd time we had to make choices like you guys and telegraph creek road. I do really wish we had gone to salmon glacier . We did however go on the telegraph creek road. Loved it.. awesome village at the end..the stikine river is beautiful. Awesome seeing the bobcat! And somehow I had no idea you could drive to the cassier ghost town!!! 😳 that is something we totally would have loved..looks like the road is right in jade city. Shame on me for not doing more research! And I had the milepost each time.. the problem was I was the driver most of the time and he hated reading that milepost lol..every time I’d make him look at it and tell me what fun things were coming next I’d get “the look” 😂 then he would offer to drive ..but I would get carsick if I was reading it and I like being in control of the vehicle as well 😂… so apparently we missed some really cool things!! But thanks for showing me them! And finally Boya lake ..we loved that campground! Kayaked all around it.. found a beaver dam and portaged to another lake past it.. then found another dam with the same thing but we had to get back. We have driven on the cassier a total of 4 times now.. loved it each time! Looks like you guys did as well.. thanks for sharing! ❤ ohhh yahhh the YUKON BABY! My fav. Next to Alaska of course😊

We had driven it before and missed several stops along the way! I'm pretty certain they don't advertise for people to visit the abandoned town of Cassiar in the Milepost (and yes it was 12km passed Jade City), but thats why we always have to drive roads 2... 3... maybe 4 times to really experience it. You can just never do it all in one shot! We will definitely be back soon, travelling the North has a very nostalgic feel for us now. Salmon Glacier was incredible, even in the thick fog... i'm kicking myself now for not camping there for a few days ! Next time. So glad your'e watching through the whole catalogue again and getting caught up ❤

Nova Scotia nomad tip: our province is full of natural springs. Look them up online, many are even on Google maps. They flow all year, and a true spring doesn't need to be filtered before you drink! That's what we do when our pipes freeze! It's ironic I've lived here for 3 years and haven't been to any of these places you're visiting yet 😅 but it looks like you missed the Cobequids and the Fundy and the South Peninsula, I know those well, I'd definitely show you around some time if you like, take you out on the trails in the 4Runner over the mountains and down on the beaches and show you the best camp spots down south. So happy that your driving skills saved the day and your persistence to get it done . The diesel heater is a good idea and something to consider for future cold weather adventures. @@wayoftheroads it’s nothing more than miles on the van. There is nothing at all to do or see except Red Bay which you can do in an over night trip using the Ferry at Blanc Sablon. Everything past there is military towns and mining and it’s a long ride back to Quebec City from there. NL is great, the role it played in WW2, 9/11, the history of how the earth was formed we spent 11 weeks there, it’s a boondocks dream. I think we paid for a site 10 times and mostly was to get water and shower. If you want to see the ice bergs you need to be there before June. And awesome the locals were so nice! I bought us a shower tent and a camping shower that has hot water that you put the hose into any body of water ..even a bucket and it comes out hot! Well worth the 300$ I think it was..but our camper had a shower and a hot water heater and I loved that. Nothing better than a nice warm shower when you have been exploring for days! Beautiful scenery as always ..drone footage amazing. Thank you two ! Your awesome ! Keep on adventuring! Love that you love the shoulder season too ❤❄️🌨️🌊💨⛰️🏔️⛺️🛶🚐🚐🍻🍺☕️🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺🦀🐳🐋🌲🥰🥰🥰🥰

Newfoundland is in the cards for the (sort of) near future, we will figure out the Nunavut thing eventually ! and yeah, i'd be okay if we don't slide downhill backwards ever again. Especially hills with no guard rails 😅

Glad i got to ride along on another adventure. How old is Diesel i'm new to follow so you might have said in previous videos. I've adopted the older dogs & some haven't made it long but i know they had good life right at the end anyway. Be careful so i can ride along on my trips. The down the hill backwards would be very scary glad that ended ok for sure

A very enjoyable video with terrific drone footage. Well done! Those Pronghorn Antelope are fascinating animals - we saw them on our trip west in 2023. They are the second fastest land mammals on earth - Cheetah's being the fastest. They've evolved larger lung capacities and enlarged tracheas to handle the heavier breathing requirement - and they can keep it up. They're not just sprinters. What they cant do is jump the many fences that criss cross the prairies. It's just not in them to figure that out and although they can outrun any predator, they get stuck trying to go through or under a fence, which makes them vulnerable. They'll lose hair on the barbed wire too and that makes them vulnerable to cold winter weather.

I drove the Canol in 1978 to and from Mac Pass. It was a good one lane gravel road then, no potholes, just amazing country. Had to hit the ditch when we faced a 5 ton outfitter’s truck on a corner and there was no room to get around him. But the big guy pulled us out, no damage. The field of trucks was amazing then as it is now.

Then Alannah’s ‘’ it’s just like in the movies!!!! ‘’ the tumbleweed scene.😂 and OMG sooooo funny that creepy music and the filter change while you both were swinging on that creepy swingset! And Kyle..you scared the living daylights out of me thinking you were gonna venture downstairs in that church.. I yelled outloud “ noooo Kyle don’t do it “ 😮😮😮 we absolutely loved exploring abandoned things.. we would find so many on our boating adventures around the Sunshine Coast. And then in the Yukon..all the old trappers cabins. Silver city in Kluane was pretty cool! I have a fun video of us exploring that for my memories. Thanks again guys.. There are canyons like that all over the prairies not only in the parks, and they are full of gorgeous rocks like I've found black quartz and chandelier quartz. Make me nostalgic hardcore lol. The tourists can have the Rockies lol. I was born in rural Ontario, moved out west for some 20 years, became fascinated with BC and the mountains like everyone there, and recently made my way to Nova Scotia. I can now say that as good as BC is, it's overrated. Ontario, Saskatchewan, and the Maritimes are just as good. Ontario is the best province with the most wilderness when you travel by canoe (but not by road) so it's very misunderstood. If you ever wanna team up for an expedition to the dunes, I'm down. It's like 5000 km driving and 200 km paddling (each way).
