    Greetings from Calgary,
    Thanks for posting. Congrats on the 1000 subscribers. Woo Whooo! Thanks for bringing us along for the journey. It's always great meeting friends when going to a new place.
    The batoning skills were 100. Sorry to hear about your memory cartridge.
    It's always good to have at least two and use the cloud. Diesel is looking yoked. I hope to see more of your footage in the future.

    So sorry about your hard drive. I just broke a memory card with a 1000 photos on it and I'm devastated. I hope you were able to recover them. I have to say either you have some mad research skills or some amazing campground mojo because you keep finding these unreal camping spots.

      Yikes ! That's awful 😞 thankfully we were able to recover it, but took forever... Had to ship the drive to the states to get it fixed. So many great spots here, it's a campers paradise forsure !

    Alannah my two fav sounds are cracking fire and loons!!! Those backroad books are excellent.. we own so many. But I could never find a Yukon one unfortunately…of course the milepost works but not as great as those backroad maps!!! I’m slowly working my way thru your videos..oldest to newest ..but I cheated and saw your newest ones already. The chilcoltin cariboo area is also very fun to explore all the way to Bella coola…( maybe u go there and I haven’t seen it yet ) I would love to see u adventure to a lake from my childhood …Chaunigan lake ,in that area. They have cabins but we always stayed at a small primitive campground away from the lodge area. My great aunt and uncle used to own it when I was about 10 years old. But there’s so many roads to explore ..we barely scratched the surface in that area. We loved going to the refuse stations and checking out the share shacks.. such a great idea! 😂 they things we did to amuse ourselves. 😂

      @@Alaskagirl618 we've looked for a Yukon book as well!! I don't think they make them and honestly I think that's kind of a good thing. Yukon is wild and if there's a book for everyone to read that tells them exactly where to go it would ruin all the fun of just getting out and finding them for ourselves !
      The BC/Yukon area is a place well probably visit the rest of our lives and still only scratch the surface 😅. That's the best part though.
      We're going to add Chaunigan lake to the list !!

    Great vlogs. All of them. What is the general bug situation in AB and BC? Ticks, Black Flies, months, time of day etc.?

    • @wayoftheroads
      @wayoftheroads  7 місяців тому

      Thanks a lot ! One of the best parts about the island is the minimal bugs! They're definitely here, but being from Ontario where mosquitos and ticks are probably triple the human population... The ones we have here are a piece of cake 😅. Interior BC I'm sure they can get much worse.

    Sorry to be negative here but it appears you have fallen into the trap of a new generation influenced by adventurers before you, lol. Every time I see a vehicle on a gravel bar, beach, traverse that creek I get sad. I have been lucky enough to spend a career out there working on behalf of the people in programs that stabilized the road slopes at the top of the mountains to fish restorations in the valleys as well as working through the introduction of the toughest logging rules in the world. And I used to eat my lunches in all these “secret” spots I see in videos these days and made sure they were in good shape. So the next generation could discover them amuses me to no end. Here are some guiding principles the folks who did all this restoration work worked under that may help others in the BC outback appreciate what they were working in. On the Island, you may assume that all but two lakes below 4000 feet have fish. Now every stream tributary to the lake is now considered fish “habitat”. Working out from that stream you of course have the riparian area, 30m either side of a water course is used by 90% of all wildlife, any good hunter knows this. Part of that restoration work was road access blockage for several reasons. A main one was bridges were to be removed if their failure would cause fish passage issues, these are usually low level (tourist level) roads. So this work has been done and companies have plans for future development that are less impactful. At this point in history I split 4x4 outbackers (my work zone) into two categories. The guys who pull up to the gate or other rock barricade and find a way around it, they trash the regenerated trees, fill in the ditches and damage large trees. A logger can be fined for chipping bark of a tree on the wrong side of a road, a logger has spill kits…not really considerations for the 4x4 crowd. My concern here is the result of the access to fish streams (that’s about all of them) has not been honoured, then to the level 2 4x4 folks who see an “ adventure route to a secret spot” which in fact is fish “habitat”. Now I say habitat because this is the charge, damage to fish habitat, not killing a fish. My problem is that to those who identified, planned for and completed these works and produced the legislation a new mind set, mostly ignorant to the history folks have started a new wave advertising these misrepresented spots. In the days before the youtube adventurer in the winter I simply took screen shots of group 1 4x4 folks at play, took their plate numbers, and showed up at their place of work to serve ticket. Now the adventurer has a new attitude in the bush…’because that guy did it…I see a road”, balanced with the government has little time to address the influx. Big picture here is to you they look like quaint places to access, through that ever widening road through the riparian area, probably eroded the stream bank to get the gravel (silt introduction), then park in fish “habitat”, if you traverse the little creek are there eggs in there you crushed, choked with your silt, fry crushed in that last little puddle he was holding on to till the rain comes, it’s a tough life for fish even without 4x4s. Now if you think Im a bitter old man with a story of how it used to be, its not, it’s a story of what was, that did not work for the environment, solutions and plans implemented, millions spent on work done, then little follow-up. A key thing I have learned working is understanding the intent of a rule, why it was implemented, not the attempt to describe an infraction. The intent with all this work is keep motorized vehicles out of fish habitat, simple. The real world example here is the logger, who has a fuel/oil spill it must be addressed, if it might reach a ditch it is reported and all your actions accounted for confirming no impact, this is for a pickup. The same logger if he wishes to build a bridge he can not set foot in or disrupt any of the stream bed let alone park on it. I hope you can appreciate the serious intent of the legislation and at the same time how this is undermined by advertising these as environmentally legitimate sites. Don’t get me started on beaches!!! Lastly this old guy has no expectations from any generational view, it happens, live with it. Point being I am not trashing this site, great site! But I have to live with why do people camp in that nursery of environment, crush the eggs and fry, cover eggs and plug gills with silt, possible oil leaks directly into stream. But my experience is not built on youtube clips. And I am really interested to see how the youtube “secret spot” thing lasts, just this summer I have noted the newest trend, Starlink. Yes folks, watch the clips, take the ferry, drive the a secret spot, maybe three youtube posters, all with Starlink, now in their units watching Netflix or editing their next post, I talk to them all the time….they seem to see the writing on the wall…this ain’t camping anymore, lol, but did you get my merch?
