In other countries if you ingest poison, they give you activated carbon to try soak up the poison in the stomach. Not just, “put you on life support”

Why on earth are YOU setting such a TERRIBLE EXAMPLE to your audience by handling Hemlock with your BARE HANDS ?!?! You should be demonstrating BEST PRACTICES… not just telling others to do as I say (not as I do) SMH 👎

You should probably make your own video and set a better example. You’re obviously an expert based on your comments. Also…spoiler alert…I did not get sick or die from touching the plant. Ya know…It’s almost like I was attempting to visually convey that simply touching the plant or coming into contact with it doesn’t mean a death sentence or that you’ll get sick. Unfortunately, not everyone is capable of picking up on subtleties and unspoken lessons. I look forward to your video!

A very helpful and informative vid. Although you were saying “umbel” which isn’t actually a word (at least not in English😂) …but surely you meant to say ‘umbral’, right? No doubt the term “umbral” is related to the word: umbrella, which makes sense given the Wild Carrot’s umbrella shaped flower.👍

As toxic as it is, i wonder-- does the poison in its roots contaminate the soil and affect other plants growing near it? For example, in the garden-- will it mess up the vegetables? Thank you for this info.

FWIW I had a bunch of hemlock with big white umbels in a fairly shady spot in my yard, so must not necessarily need lots of direct sunlight. The first spring in a new house brought lots of surprises growing. Beautiful alliums, but also surprise poison! 😂

We are seeing an explosion of Poison Hemlock here in South Central Pennsylvania this year. It's everywhere along the roadways and it's a new infestation. I cleared about 30 plants from behind our shed last weekend...very scary stuff. Some plants were 8' tall and huge. Thanks for this great comparison.

Good job over-all bro. I have a bit of advice for you to kick up your skill lvl. Teepee style fire-lay (drains rain/sleet/snow melt to the outside). If raining, line the outside with bark layers. If you think you have enough smoke, you don't, lol, always hit it more before stopping (rule of thumb). Scrape off first dust and get rid of it, as it is high in moisture and will prevent easy coal formation. You can do friction fire even if the fire-board has been soaking for says in a puddle of water. You have to create steam within the wood to drive the water out the ends of the board and spindle. Requires three holes side by side with center hole for fire. One note, use much finer initial tinder when everything is soaked. Think twigs as thin or thinner than a pencil lead to start, then a bunch 1/8" in diameter, then some 3/16", etc., in layers. You have to get the wood above 220 D Fahrenheit before it can start heating to the self-ignition temp of 800 degrees. Do it right, you can start a friction fire with even soaked firewood in the rain. With wet conditions, as you have learned, everything is a little harder. However, friction fire is reliable, not impossible, but you have to know what is going on with everything at each step of the process, or you will probably fail and won't know why. Most of the weekend survivalists in the forums do not know why fires works, let alone what is going on within the wood during the stages of friction fire, so that is why many think friction fire is like magic so to speak. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

White flowers that look like a rounded dome, smooth stem, blotches, stay away. Nice video. Also water hemlock looks similar but with more of a rounded dome flower arrangement and the same smooth stem and blotches. I got some good pictures of the water hemlock here in southern Alberta while canoeing at a lake shore. I pay closer attention to the harmful plants as identifying them is most important.
