Welcome to my channel! My name is Adam Martin and I own a small business that repairs and restores antique/classic cars. My specialty is GM stuff pre-72, mostly Buick, but I will work on anything. I use this channel to upload random videos of cars I'm working on, completed jobs, or the occasional rant or issue I have when working on a particular project. Really exciting stuff...
1970 Buick GS350 4 Speed Coupe Paint and Body Episode 1
And now for something completely different...kind of. This is the first installment of a series chronicling the tear down, body work, and paint of a 1970 Buick GS 350 4 speed in Gulfstream Blue. I hope you enjoy! This type of video takes many hours to cut together and edit.

Super easy job to do if you know what to do...check it out! This probably works on most all GM cars from the mid 60's through the mid 70's, but this specific lock is from a 68-72 Buick GS or Skylark. Master Cylinder and Power Brake Booster Pushrods! IMPORTANT TIP!

Be aware of the length of the pushrod in the power brake booster and the depth of the cup in the master cylinder. They need to be a matched pair! Otherwise you will have very poor braking. Actually the value of anything is what someone will pay for it !
great video. may I ask where you send your pot metal parts like the door handle to get it plated?
www.chromeplatingin.com is my go-to. But I have a couple more local places that I use too.
Thats the 70 Buick GS
Merry Christmas!
Same to you!
have you tried a hard case storage bin ,the one carpenters use to divide different size screws ,it looks like a brief case, works great ,no un-bagging, just open and start working ,I use business cards as labels
Didn't know the 455 was an option on the Lesabre
How do you solve the lead-free gasoline issue in these older engines?
That's a good question. The honest answer is that you just put in the best quality gas you can. These cars rarely get any heavy mileage on them anymore. Unless you're towing or running high RPM's all the time, you really don't need to sweat it. Drive and enjoy.
I love the 1st generation Toronados
Start out with a $500 bush car that needs a $80,000.00 Restoration. No thanks,
Depends on the car. This one won't be getting $80k worth of work. More like $30k from me. The owner loves small block 4 speed 70 GS's, so that is where his money is going. And this car is really solid, considering some of the stuff I've seen get dropped off here previously.
It kills me watching guys ,,,,,,I'm going to restore this car fix it up ,so they start thawing it apart stripping everything ,,,in a few years they loose interest. And the car sets,,,My self I fixed one thing at a time ,
That certainly is the best route for folks who can't dedicate a ton of time to a project. This is my full time job, and I'm doing it for a client. It'll be painted in 3 months. Assembled and returned in 5. I've inherited a bunch of basket case projects from folks like you describe...it's unfortunate, but it happens. A lot.
I apologize for coming on to strong I myself fixed and refebest cars in my like did it for many many years ,,like you said,,,I didn't have a lots cash ,,,when you restore an old car it sets for people to look at ,you drive from time to time ,,,,I like to drive them and not worry ,,,like I said keep up good work my friend,,may God be with you and keep you safe
I'm subscribed. I'm more a Chevy fan, but I want to see what that Buick will look like when completed.
Thank you very much! It will be an absolute stunner. Gorgeous color combo. And a 4 speed!
Great job as always! Smart move on the mask…..I think I’ve gotten hantaviris a dozen times over the years, cough cough! LOL
Same! Mouse nests are nasty.
Had to pause to take notes on the cad/phospate/clear zinc. 45 minutes well spent getting FREE advice from one of the best. Great video
Always feel free to ask on plating, or any other questions. Happy to answer!
Seen a lot of variation in orig. fenders. Hardly seems worth not pulling the body but... 350 4-sp is a fun configuration!
Fenders are coming off. This is "just" a pant job....so we aren't going crazy with it. I have already fixed the fenders. Actually the hood...laid a 2x4 along the edge and stood on it to flatten it just a bit.
@@antiqueautomotiveserviceInteresting method:). I have an orig. paint hoo😮d that was welded incorrectly at the factory. There's typically a small reveal along the side where the outer & inner are welded together & this one is flush. Was probably ok when new (esp. if paired w/a tight fender) but eventually caused a slight crease in the outer skin. Took me a bit to realize what caused the crease as the hood is otherwise perfect! Only way to fix is to split that seam & let it all relax to it its natural position. Owner had told me this was just a paintjob & that's kinda what I'm doing to my Stage 1 4-sp so should be a great video series!
That a build sheet in the seat bottom?
I don't recall seeing one. But I will look again.
I thought I saw that too, but I think it was an 8x10 piece of foam.
@@DanEBoyd I still have yet to reinvestigate. But I always look when I pull seats...don't remember seeing one.
Great video😊
HI Adam it was good seeing you back on screen. It was also good seeing you and visiting with you at MCACN event. You had some beautiful GS's on display. You do really good work on all your cars. You deserve all those accolades! Nice shop.
Thanks Gene! And thank you for coming up and supporting the show. It was great to see you and Barb there.
I must have missed the part where it lost half of the value.
Many viewers missed the joke about me washing barn dust off the car, cutting its value in half. There is an industry sarcasm that barn dust somehow makes a car more valuable - mostly from these big estate auctions that drag cars out of storage buildings and sell them for insane money.
@antiqueautomotiveservice Well of course. They know what they have. 😄
Hey Adam , I was at that show those cars were beautiful rare Buicks! Ive owned a number of Skylarks and a few GS s over the years ever since my dad bought a used 69 Skylark in 1980.I just sold my 1972 GS 350 conv`t , I learned a lot of quirky things about them ,like they didn`t offer bucket seats on convertable syklarks or GSs after `70. i have 1 question maybe you could answer ,Have you ever run across a 70 - `72 Skylark with a 455 from the factory?? through all my boneyard travles I never seen one. Once again beautiful restoration work !
Thank you! No, there were no 455 Skylarks from the factory.
Great work Adam always a pleasure to be in the shop with you regards wayne
Thank you!
Beautiful Buick!
Thank you!
Great to see you up back on UA-cam Adam! Great video and unveiling of Mike’s car…. And curiosity has me noticing a Centurion in the shop too
It's a 72 LeSabre coupe...good eye!
Is it for sale
This one is not for sale. There might be a price on the blue one that was next to it at the show, though.
I feel for ya, brother ! 😢
It appears that car was refinished at some poit? Was it?
I think it has been spot painted, but not fully hosed. I remember one of the fenders having some touchup, but can't recall any other places.
Looks like your filter does not have the check valve to stop fuel from draining back - did some q jets come with check valve and others did not have it?
There are many folks who refuse to install the fuel filters with check valves because they think the valve restricts flow. I haven't had that issue personally...and I really prefer ones with check valves due to fuel backsiphonage issues.
You know, there's a lot quicker and easier way to break that glass.
After a while the system will take theses relics off the highway and future generations will not know what a Real cars was
Glad I'm not the only one that struggles w/that & you've done so many! I'd love to see how it was done on the Fisher Body assy. line. Cool car. I turned its current owner onto it. He'll be asking me if I have a piece of glass:). I'll donate it to the project if you won't need it until May.
I should have some in my stock. Thanks though!
Don’t feel bad, I’ve had it happen to me and I’ve been doing glass for almost 40 years
Every one sold came with its own tow behind gasoline tanker.
Nice car,👍🏻👍🏻🔥
If somebody's trying to tell you that dust makes it more valuable, crap on the windshield and say there now it's double!
Awesome video to visualize the build process, thank you sir!
From the title I assumed maybe a lift of the hood would reveal a bone stock NON Stage 1 GS 455 engine ! Guess that could still be the case without a serial number match !
North Dakota is a excellent place to hide a car lol
I had a 67 rev the Buicks of that time had 430s and 455 under the hood rich man’s muscle car they don’t run on anything other than premium gas and that car needs full Restoration the hell with the patina look I know once someone who has a Buick GSX come from the factory for455 all original even the paint he bought at least 16 Beautiful car yellow with black stripes
I had a 71 back in the day Red with black interior, no vinyl top 455 4bbl factory dual exhaust, would light the tires up effortlessly had to be light on the pedal and it would swap ends with you if you weren't careful
How was the value lost?
My buddy had 1 same color and was a bad mofo
The patina thing was promoted bt guys who didnt have the time or money to repaint their cars properly..a poor excuse..” see how shitty my car looks? I bet its shittier than your car”…
I must've blinked because I missed the part about how it lost half its value in 10 minutes. Anyone?
She had a 455vvvveeee Rocket... www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DkQZV6q00sUc&ved=2ahUKEwjBnJf9jJeKAxWC5MkDHVWsOuoQtwJ6BAgQEAI&usg=AOvVaw3bKVmRA6_N1GR8u4TFsRDy
Paint it or Crush it! Ugly, Rolling junk is always junk.
The girl I had a crush on in high school had a white GSX. Wonder whatever happened to it?
I don't like the power washer. Horsehair brush and a squirt of Dawn is what I would have used.
I'd buy it in a minute 😮. A repaint wouldn't be that hard to do since there is virtually no bodywork to be done besides the roof.
I thought maybe the engine would be hydro locked after the pressure wash. Yes. At some point the original paint is meaningless if it's been trashed. That's not even patina. That's rust.
👍
FYI the color is nutmeg brown
It is actually rosewood. Nutmeg is different.
Get that Buick running right, drive it for a while, wipe the body down with linseed oil. Youre going to enjoy driving it so much you won't care how it looks. if you decide to paint it sobeit, it's your car,it's a good one.,ENJOY! Opinions are like,,, you know the rest
