Beam replacement 25’ Boat trailer

Replacing the main beam support on a 25 foot boat with longer trailer on land. Rollers on trailer…..it worked but it wasn’t easy. I started at 0900 and I finished it 2000…..but that includes 2 trips to Home Depot and an hour and a half waiting for tools when I couldn’t disconnect the truck from trailer. But alhamdulillah, the job was completed successfully and now I can take it to the mechanic ...

Swap outboard motors FAIL, 1989 Maxum Cuddy Cabin (20’)

This was the first attempt at swapping outboards on my 1989 20’ Maxum Cuddy cabin. The existing motor (125hp Force) runs ok but has low compression so I decided to pull it and put in another motor. Unfortunately not only did I buy another motor that was too short for transom, but the bolt holes also didn’t line up, AND the controls/steering were completely different!!! I wanted to get rid of the 2” CV spacers that came with my Rough Country lift. It’s a 6inch lift and my Tahoe is a 2004 model. I had read in the Tahoeyukonforum.com that 2008 CV axles fit lifted 04’s without use of CV spacers. The total compressed length of the 2008 stock CV axle is 1/2” shorter than the total compressed length of the stock 2004 axle the 2inch CV spacer. So just bolting it up l...

      No they didn’t fit it was just like what you ran into but since I knew it was most likely gonna happen I had my saw ready with a diamond tip blade ready to go. Then I used manifold spreader to get it just right. I soaked the secondary air fitting for days with pb then they came right off. Then used some heat and a vice to make the bends for the passenger air fitting on top of the header

      Yea man. I haven’t been off-road since that G80 short but so far so good. I have 243K on the truck and just replaced the front hub…while it was off I moved the CV joint around and didn’t feel any binding for what it’s worth, hoping to get into some real mud and muck this summer. I’ve used the truck a bunch towing my boat. Real test is off road though, and since getting the boat I’ve spent most of my time getting wet vs getting muddy.

      The 2008 axles are longer…and the whole reason there’s a discussion is because the 2004 axles require a 2” spacer once you add the lift…the extended travel axles I think provides about an inch…read my description for details…I don’t recall specifics but it’s there in my write up.

      No binding that I’ve experienced…I’ve been 4wheeling only once in this set up. There weren’t any RH or LH axles for our trucks. There is however a popping noise when you turn all the way to the right or left when the extended axles bottom out against their stops but it works fine. I just did this with my 95 yesterday. What I did was lift the hood to relieve stress, but I used two jacks simultaneously per side. One was the jack that comes with the car and I had another just like it. Slowly raising the entire side of the car eliminated the flexing stress that comes from lifting only a quarter of the car. Once raised, I placed sections of 2x12 under each tire for insurance, which I will just drive off when done. I placed the jackstands much like yours. This isn't like any other vehicle I've owned, but once done, I feel confident now in safely raising and lowering the vehicle. Now to get that CAGS solenoid "serviced" and change the trans fluid. I’m firmly in the camp of “sufficient” these days. They’re still holding up and we’re only a few hundred dollars vs the $2K for stainless works. I bet Melrose cost a pretty penny too. Because the cars are getting so old I think we have to just go with Chinese parts for stuff much to my chagrin. I had to buy a chip because nobody tunes LT1’s from 1993 anymore...They can do a ‘94 but ‘93 and ‘92’s, no dice.

      I honestly could have done a better job editing but I captured every single step it took to install these headers. If you watch all the videos you can see exactly what it took. With that being said, it wasn’t hard just time consuming due to the headers not lining up...two different sets...expensive and cheap. Other folks had same issue...Im still glad I did it though.

      MakoShark CNC Abso-freaking-lutely!!! With a doubt yes!! It would not have been worth it if I had of bought top of the line (expensive) headers, or if I had paid a shop to do it...assuming a shop would have taken the project on. I can’t say that the car got faster/more powerful but the driving experience has been great enhanced. It sounds faster and IMO sounds like what a Corvette should actually sound like. I added a 3.90 gear to the rear end over winter break while I was back in the States but didn’t get a chance to get into it (drive it hard) before I went back overseas. That’s why there have been no more videos or updates on the car since 2018.

    • @fizzybillylah3816
      @fizzybillylah3816 4 роки тому

      Don’t give up!!!! It will pump up. Sit down beside the car and use your arm to push the pedal down...push repeatedly and rapidly...don’t count just pump. Once you can’t push it with your arm anymore then use your leg, then get a partner while you are under the car waiting to turn the bleed screw. Hopefully you know that you have to make sure the bleeder screw is screwed down right before you began the bleed process. I think it takes so long to pump up because the hose between MC and SC was emptied during the install process

    Good job and staying with it. hasbeengood is right about the ports. They don't make D port headers for the LT1 Corvette unless you go with shorty headers. Shorty headers are only slightly better than stock manifolds, for best torque and horsepower always go with full length headers for the scavenging and velocity. Anyway, when it comes to headers on the LT1, O port headers will work but you have to have a 1 3/4" primary tube, standard 1 5/8" O port tubes WILL NOT WORK> They are not large enough to cover the D port. I have posted several times in this series as I am going to do headers on my 1996. it doesn't look like that big of a deal, planning and doing to tricks before you slide them in will make the job much easier. Happy cruising!!

  • @JessicaTG2008

    I learned a long time ago, before you put your headers in the car, dimple the areas on the tubes where the bolts go in for clearance, EVEN IF you don't think you need it. Especially check when you have to use spacers to mount accessory brackets, you can guarantee that the tubes will have to be dimpled to have clearance for the brackets and spacers. Do as much of this BS stuff you can before you wrestle them in the car. Also, wait to put your header gaskets on to just before you tighten them for the last time, and never use sealer. The best header gasket money can buy is Percy's aluminum header gaskets. Take all your bolts out except the ends. On the gasket, cut slots in the outer bolt holes so you can slide the gasket between the header and head, put your bolts in and tighten it up. Percy's gaskets will NOT blow out and are designed for applications where surfaces are not perfect. Just my 2 cents. Fortunate for me, I removed all the EGR and air system, no cats or BS. Im not sure what header company I will go with, but it looks rather straightforward as header installations go. There really is plenty of room on a Vette to work.

Certainly these are super fun cars to wrench and drive...you MUST join a Corvette club and do some Autocross...that was so fun. And ever since Roadkill did their show on the ‘Vette kart the C4 prices shot up, but are still relatively affordable for the weekend middle class racer. And actually really easy to work on once you remove inner fenders

    Man! I just went thru your whole series. I've been down that road but with ARH headers wich were supposed to be the best in the west and were priced to match. One had a warped flange but to start with, the flanges were wrong and would not permit to seal the exhaust port. The CATs rested against the floor of the car, fittment was poor and they just refunded me. I've been looking for alternatives since but I noticed NO ONE makes a C4 Corvette header with the correct flange. The exhaust ports are D shaped ports and the only items on the market are O ports. I don't understand because proper headers arre available WITH the correct flange for Camaro and Firebird with LT1 engine. Your adventure just made me decide that I will forget the headers and drive it as is. I wanted the headers to complements other mods to increase power, but this aggravation is not worth it. So the Ebay stuff is no better, in fact seems worse than the expensive stuff. Glad to know before I ordered. Thanks for sharing. It would have been nice if you had a clip with actual sound of the car. Drive by maybe? Thanks for sharing.
