Hi! I like these videos, they have good picture and sound quality. I mostly shoot insects=macros. For that kind of photos I prefer older/relative cheap mobile phones like Motorola X-Force, HTC One M9. They have bigger screen, are faster, and you can use alternative photo apps: so I got Manual focus for the X-force using Bacon camera. Using these older digital cameras is a different experience. It worth to try and use them. -- The other guy that makes good videos is Johny DigiCam.
Glad you like 'em, a comment that inspires me to keep exploring on my digicam journey! 🛣📷Old digicams often have solid macro capabilities-sharp details and great close-focus distances. Their slowness, though, can be a challenge...
It's sad that there are only a few youtube channels dedicated to these old digicams. In my country most people use smartphones for photos, the other small portion using big, pro looking digital cameras. The comments on dpreview's current article about old point and shoot cameras suggest they are outdated. But I like the output of my cameras, and the pics in your reviews and others prove, that they are "alive".
Well I guess that's the case in most countries! I would love to see the trend grow IRL. From what I've noticed and read online, these old digicams are growing in popularity, especially among young people who are tired of spending every second on the phone. They seem to appreciate tech that only does "1 thing". 😎@@sanvital245

For anyone interested in this camera, it shoots raw through a hidden service menu. Just need to hit a combination of buttons in sequence, While holding down menu and shutter button all the way down: Press and hold menu button (standard menu will appear in the display) Press and hold shutter button Then (while continuing to hold the menu button and shutter button down throughout the sequence below): 2xTELE (press right zoom button twice) 1xWIDE (press left zoom button once) (a blue information screen appears here) TRASH (press trashcan icon button once) PLAY (press upper left button on back of camera) 2xTELE (press right zoom button twice) 1xWIDE (press left zoom button once) The developer menu will appear (you can release the shutter button and menu button now). Select "RAW Data Mode". The camera will then shoot in RAW until you power it off. Then, it will go back to normal operation. Do not attempt to go into the other menus. For example, if you select AF Calibrate, it will immediately begin a calibration of the Autofocus, and it WILL mess it up badly The files will have a .JPG file extension name, but you need to rename it to .MRW, RAWtherapee is able to read these files without any problems. It´s almost unbelievable how much of a pleasant experience it may be when shooting raw and having gorgeous colors
Your videos are like CCD magic, so I watch and watch them over and over again. I have a few cameras, so I can relate to them even more. I'm happy with the Fujifilm X-T1 and using the Konica manual lens. I don't have any experience with the Minolta digital camera, and the G600 is a model I didn't know, but it's like a hidden gem. I especially like Kodak DC4800, Ricoh GRD3, and Olympus E-500 on the CCD sensor camera.
That's fantastic to hear! You seem to have a great appreciation for magical cameras. Do you have the Hexanon 40mm 1.8? I have a few other inherited Konica lenses and I'm planning to use at least the 40 mm in a future episode. 😎 The G600 is one of my favourite old compacts so far...but hey that Kodak DC4800 would be a dream to get a hold of!
@ Unfortunately, I'm looking for Haxanon 40mm f1.8 now. I'm using hexanon 28mm f3.5 for Fujifilm X-T1 or X-E1. Looking for G600 I ordered Konica KD-420Z today. I also ordered Fujifilm F31FD and Panasonic DMC-LC43 together, but I'm looking forward to the weekend. I'm looking forward to the Haxanon 40mm review.
@@dhcho4473 The 40mm is nice indeed and very common...shouldn't be too hard to find one. I recently bought the Konica KD-500Z so I'm planning to do a Konica themed review. Speaking of Panasonic I'm testing the DMC-LC50 at the moment... 😁
Just watching your video makes me happy.

Cool choice!
I've been messing around with the DiMage G500 and the Digital Revia KD-500Z. Very fun and underrated cameras!
Agree, they feel overlooked. They give you a mix of a light point-and-shoot with fun effects (e.g. the start-up sound and shutter effect) and a pro finish. Moreover, the color science is retro approved.😁
Yup, and just a heads up, they shoot amazing RAW
Wow, that display is much better then on my Easyshare C713
Seems odd since the C713 is a 4 years newer camera...maybe they made it too budget-friendly. 😉
@@ccderik It is a very budget stripped down model. It also has no view finder.. Yours is much more premium..
I still have Kodak C533 and C330 which I gave to my children. I have used them when traveling. The C533 is slow and wow it devours batteries. I bought some USB rechargeable batteries last week and so far they work great.
Compared to the C530 the C533 has added 3x optical zoom...hence the "3" instead of 0 at the end. 😁

light green wow beauty thank like 👍 😮
I have many compact cameras of different brands, but this seemingly unsightly model produces some of the best images.
The Kodak definitely has its own distinctive color science. I believe the sensor in this particular model is a Sony CCD.
Hi Erik, would you recommend to get a leica digilux 1? I bought a canon powershot s80 after watching your video and I'm very happy with my purchase, so now I trust you more than anyone on this platform 😁
Hello there! Very good choice with the S80 - truly a gem and the last of its kind in that Powershot S-series. It means a lot that you trust my recommendations. 😁 You know what? I recently got the Digilux 1! I haven't tested it yet, so I can't recommend it...yet. However, it’s a Leica, has a unique and classic look, and should have some special rendering of images, so the odds are on its side, hehe.
@@ccderik yes the s80 takes lovely images and I love cloudy white balance with exposure -2/3, sooc pictures already look really good for my purposes. Congrats on your new camera, I hope you'll have fun shooting with it! I'm very curious about color science on digilux 1 compared to s80, I've seen photos with very bright red and blue sky have teal hues, would love to hear your feedback and impressions 😁
@marinanguyen5055 Seems like a setting for that extra retro vibe, giving a bit of a warmer tone too. 😎 I will see if I will make a winter or summer episode of the Digilux, if the latter case then it will be a while (but worthwhile). Very late autumn grey here at the moment...
first of all thank you erik for your videos, they are somehow touching (maybe it's the pictures, the music, or the melancholy, or all mixed together). i bought the konica minolta 5D SLR (it's still a fine camera) and i could'nt believe it back in 2005/6 when i read that konica minolta sold its camera branch. i find today manufactures try to invent something new every time but the new features aren't needed most of the time. maybe the sense for the details of the products and their basic function like taking photos is gone.
Thanks for the nice comment! I'm glad the video resonates with you. I believe the autumn season inspires melancholic strokes in the editing and compositions. 😁 You should cherish your 5D - it's a unique DSLR from the "Konica Minolta window". Regarding the innovations of today...yeah I get what you mean, like mostly software updates, two more megapixels, better video capability or other things not really involving the actual photo-taking experience.
So, what we are missing is... those brands that worked hard to earn a place in the market. A market that has changed forever in which the companies are not planning to invest in product development anymore. One famous airplane brand CEO once said "We must stop being an engineering firm and begin to be a business company" or something along those lines. The engineering was let down and the trending has taken it´s place here in the present.
Very good point! I guess the emergence of the smartphone really killed a lot of innovation in the camera market. With that shift, the focus moved to ease of use, megapixels, and various software goodies, often at the expense of quality and craftsmanship than once defined many brands. Of course, consumer demands have changed but it is sad to see that innovation in traditional cameras has taken a backseat [adds melancholic autumn ambience].
We are of course missing CCD sensors which were crafted to give the very best digital images mimicking film as closely as was humanly possible.
Distinctively put! Who would've known that the CCD sensor would gain such a passionate fanbase?
One word: "Foveon"
Beautiful CCD colours! I have the Konica Minolta Dimage Z20. 5mp. It looks like a Star Wars ship. I miss when camera companies took risks and tried different looks, Some worked others did not. But I am happy I am able to get some of these hidden gems. Thanks for sharing!
Ah the Z20 - it looks hilarious. 😄 Seems to have a nice grip. Appreciate the appreciation!
@@ccderik What is really odd is it has a mechanical shutter that blocks off the LCD screen when you use the ev. There is a amazing satisfying clump when it opens and shuts. it is even behind a glass protection. the CCD is great on it too and I love the handling!
@@thissidetowardscreen4553 That's a unique quirk, hehe. Clearly the satisfying clump sound adds to the tactile experience of using it! Will keep my eyes open for the Z20 from now on. 😁
Very nice! Really good colours from this sensor 👍🏻 Love it
Indeed, I think it really manages to capture the golden hues of autumn.

I still remember my first Digi Cam. A Casio Exilim Card EX-S100 from 2004. 3MP and that camera was super small and thin. They advertised it in comparison to a credit card. To me it looked like some James bond camera because it was so small. The moment I read an article about that camera I knew I was going to get it. I loved the having a small pocket camera on the go. I have so many good memory pictures from this camera, however I was stupid and reduced the file size to save memory. I had no clue back then.. Haha
It does have some Bond vibes, hehe. I like its square buttons and the visible screws in the corners on the front. Now I want to find one of those to test. 😁 It's cool that memories are connected to a certain digicam like that.
How would you characterize this camera in comparison with the Canon G2-6 in terms of speed? I really like the Nikon design and these retro bridge cameras, I would like to have one in my collection, especially since I don't shoot dynamic scenes, only nature. Upd: However, it doesn't matter to me, I am so enchanted by this camera that I have already ordered one for myself. I was aiming to buy a Canon Pro1 for my collection, although its design seems downright stupid to me, and I simply didn't know about the existence of the Nikon 8400. But when I saw it, I realized that it was love! I am a Nikonist and I really like this design. The amazingly wide lens with a gold ring is as pompous as the Pro1 with a L red ring =)
i have found the fujifilm 4800z in my house while searching for something, but i dont know how to use or take a picture with it, could you help me ?
That's a nice find! Well, I wonder about its battery and memory card. If the old battery doesn't have any power you should look for a replacement to the NP-80 battery (search online). The 4800z uses the now obsolete SmartMedia cards for image storage, check if it sits one in the left hand compartment. That's a start. 😁

I have a Kodak Easyshare C713 7MP.. It makes wonderful pictures and IMO the automatic mode works really well. The camera is slow, but the pictures are always good. And yess, they look a bit natural and warm. I really like it..
It looks slick, and 7 MP is definitely respectable! I see the C713 was released in 2008 with a CCD sensor, right before CMOS sensors became dominant when the 2010s arrived. 😁
@@ccderik I just think it is not as good as your Kodak, the C530. The C713 feels super cheap, the display is bad and there is some fish eye effect with the lens. I have a very similar Samsung S750, 7mp CCD, and that makes IMO nicer images. It also works with 2 AA batteries, but it has also a Manual mode where you can adjust shutter speed which could be interesting for experimental fotos.. Samsung Kameras are also super cheap, because nobody cares about that brand. Old Canon? Prices went crazy.. haha
@@ccderik Damn.. Now I compare the fotos I took from the same location at different days and I like the Kodak more.. I think I will look for a model with a view finder.. Hehe

found this camera for $6 in a thrift store one of my fav digi cams that looks so good with my 911 turbo
That's a great find! Double the Porsche - triple the excitement! 😉
I'll bet the smartmedia card will cost more than the camera. I bought one for my Olympus E-20N, and it wasn't cheap. But I do so enjoy the E-20N, I am blow away by the contrast, sharpness, and color of the images it creates for a 5mp camera. It's widest aperture is from 2-2.4. Quite an amazing feat for this permanent zoom lens. The camera was crazy expensive as well when it came out, and was considered the digital for pros. I have it powered with a battery pack that I wired with the cells from a laptop battery. Lasts a LONG time.
Yeah I know the SmartMedia-cards are rare and very expensive (like a 2 MB one for 260 Swedish kronor on Amazon, lol), but I was lucky one was included when I bought the C-40. It was a small one, but I have bigger SM-cards from earlier digicam purchases. 😁 Just looked up the E-20N..it looks pro. You got an old beast there.
Oh, watching your video I remembered that my grandfather also had a similar camera. When I tried charging it, the light on the charger changed blue and red continuously. After 1 hour the problem still happened and I tried attaching it to the camera but it still didn't work. Have you encountered this situation? Please share with me
No, I haven't experienced anything similar. But it shouldn't be hard finding a replacement charger and/or battery for the S50 online, if you want to revive your grandfather's camera. 📸

Yeah I think it holds up pretty well today. Resolution wise it's just enough, hehe. I've mostly used it in proper daylight so can't really say much about the DR, but it gives really clean images and is quite snappy in operation.

I understand you look back in wonder at this camera; it's certainly a special design, which makes it fun to use, aside from the good colors. Also, the macro mode impressed me.
I have the Camedia C-300 Zoom, and the look is great. Early CCD sensor digicams are something else. It's like a point-and-shoot film camera, but without having to keep buying and developing film.
Yeah, it might not have that true analogue look, but these early CCDs definitely bring another type of retro vibe, and like you say, more convenient - and cheaper too. A thought: A legacy Compact Flash-card is the film roll of the digital age. 😁

Such an iconic lineup, thinking about the early days of digital compacts!
Vilken spännande plats. Den har jag missat. Måste besöka det någon gång och ta med ett gäng kameror.
"Stan som försvann". Det är en passande plats för digicams!
Hey, Erik, your channel is great! I also try "digicams" myself, something I learned is that in the fixed ISO setting, they bring a nice grain to the photos (in the shadow tones), something that doesn´t happen in the auto ISO setting. We´d love to hear your tips an tricks for all your cameras in future videos!
Hallå där - really glad you're enjoying the channel! Yeah the auto ISO tend to go lower, so a fixed higher one can add some character. Good point about the shadows...might add to the "film look". I haven't experimented much with the ISO, but your comment gives inspiration to include it in future videos, among other tricks. 😁
Great video! Great little camera! Love the look of it! Nice images! Thanks for sharing! 4mp is on the lower end of the sweet spot for me, but love the ccd colour pop!
Mega thanks! 🤪Yeah it's on the lower side, which shows in certain conditions and the telephoto end easily looks mushy, but you're right: The CCD sensor brings out that vibrant color pop.
