Taking a look at the PRS SE NF3
I really liked the original Core NF3. It's been discontinued for quite a few years and a new SE version is a great idea, if it measures up.
Here I look at the new model, give an overview of it's features and specs, provide sound demos, both isolated and in a mix, and share my thoughts.

Here I look at some of the most popular USA guitars and their import counterparts, talk about the differences between them. I focus on Gibson and Epiphone, Fender and Squier, and Paul Reed Smith and PRS SE. I touch on topics such as materials and build quality, as well as more subjective areas such as sound. The video is peppered throughout with playing examples to illustrate the points made. w...

Another lightweight, back friendly rig option. The Friedman Runt 20

Continuing my exploration of lightweight amps, this time I'm giving the Friedman Runt 20 a try. As the name implies, this is a 20 watt tube head, with some very appealing features. I talk about the quality of both the build and the sound, and discuss the pros and cons for my personal use. I demo the sounds both with and without a backing track, and with different guitars, including my Strat wit...
Upgrading the Squier Classic Vibe 50s Telecaster
Переглядів 4,2 тис.4 місяці тому
Here I explore the idea of upgrading a Squier Classic Vibe Tele. I demonstrate the stock tones, then make some key upgrades including Seymour Duncan Vintage style pickups and a USA Fender vintage style bridge. I then demo the sounds with the upgrades in place, after which I give my views on whether such upgrades are worthwhile. www.patreon.com/leonardgriffieblues #squierclassicvibe #seymourdunc...
Stick with the Tone Master, or go back to tubes??
Переглядів 2,9 тис.4 місяці тому
Here I take a fresh look at the current options in lightweight tube amp heads, and weigh advantages and disadvantages against my trusty Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb. I discuss pros and cons, and do a quick shootout with the first contender, the PRS DGT15, which is a 15 watt tube head that comes in at only 21 pounds. www.patreon.com/leonardgriffieblues #tonemaster #prsdgt15 #tubeamp #modelin...
Could this Epiphone be a better choice than a Gibson?
Переглядів 4,4 тис.5 місяців тому
Part of the new Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom line, the 1959 Les Paul Standard is yet another top tier model that might just be better than you expect. I describe the features, demo the sounds, play it to a backing track, and give my thoughts on it's overall value. I also let you know how well I think it stacks up against the USA Gibson Les Paul Standard and talk about who this guitar migh...
I almost never keep review guitars, but...

To replace a personal guitar I'd sold, I decided to keep one of my review guitars. There were two strong contenders and in this video I reveal my choice and explain why I chose as I did. I also briefly demo each then have a longer play on the chosen model, using one of my blues backing tracks. www.patreon.com/leonardgriffieblues #bluesguitar #epiphoneguitar #epiphonesheraton #es355
The Yamaha Revstar RSS02T is a lot of guitar for well under $1000
Переглядів 4,8 тис.5 місяців тому
Last year I was fairly impressed with Yamaha's lowest priced Revstar so I've decided to take a look at the next level up, and see what it has to offer for the extra money. I discuss the build, the features, the playability, and the value proposition. Of course I demo the guitar, showing what it's interesting switching system has to offer and also present it in a band mix. www.patreon.com/leonar...

Does this PRS SE CE24 really play as well as a USA PRS?
Sounds great, I've read somewhere people saying it hasn't enough throb but for me sounded as good as the expensive ones like the dry bell and such. Maybe I'll sell my micro vibe and get a vibronaut, those hi/low knobs seems very handy
Merci pour la vidéo dont vous maîtrisez à merveille cette belle guitare. Vous avez souvent le même son de saturation. Je peux savoir quel est votre ampli et pédale s'il-vous-plaît ? Merci
Very good video. Thanks.
I have a PRS SE Mira - I love that guitar and it plays so easy with the wide/thin neck carve. I am considering the SE McCarty 594 single cut but am concerned about the neck being too big. I don’t have big hands or long fingers. Anyway, stellar playing as always - I love your phrasing and touch. Thanks for a great review!
These have ONE-PIECE bodies!
Not sure where that information came from, but the sunburst versions I’ve seen, where the wood is clearly visible, have had 3 piece bodies. No reason to think that wouldn’t be normal for the line. Not that that’s an issue at all. Most vintage 60s Fenders are multi-piece bodies. Thanks for watching.
Not being a blues player, I wanted a guitar to practice, pop and rock songs at home and I wanted something a little different to my collection of Fender Teles and Strats. These classic vibes are getting a bit hard to find now as the run has been discontinued. I found a brand new one on line in Italy priced at 300 Euros. Shipping and duties priced it in total to about £340 sterling. I find the appearance in this Sherwood green colour quite appealing to be honest. I'm not an expert on pick ups and stuff but I find this is a super guitar for what I need. It has a lovely feel and the finish is superb. I don't have an issue with the pick ups at all. It suits me perfectly. Phil. 68 years. Belper. Derbyshire. England.
Yes, I found the quality to be quite nice. Pickups are always going to be a matter of taste. All that matters is what works for you. Enjoy it and thanks for watching.
Thank You man. I mean truly honest review,. I appreciate your assessment is after 2 years of real world use.
And thank you. I’m never trying to steer anyone or sell anyone on anything, just reporting my experience, and if my reviews are useful, then that’s gratifying.
it’s not supposed to be a Gibson J45.. it’s supposed to be a great alternative, for us regular folks who can’t afford a $3,000 guitar… and can barely scrap up $750. I LOVE THIS GUITAR.. THANK YOU, GIBSON… AND THANK YOU, EPIPHONE
Absolutely right. The Epiphone is all most people need. Thanks for watching.
Great video!
Thank you so much my friend. Very happy you enjoyed it.
This year I picked up a Epiphone “inspired by Gibson ES335 for $375 and still floored by the quality of that guitar compared to my higher end gibson and PRS guitars. Stock it’s just a great guitar!
I agree. They’re solid guitars and a great value. I’ve actually done two videos on the Epiphone ES-335, one stock, one with a pickup upgrade. Thanks so much for watching.
Hi Leonard, I found this vid very interesting. I have had in my care for several years, a TA-100 in vintage brown. The instrument is willed to me by a great old friend who has been a playing and personal friend for the last 63 years. We were playing the London UK/Germany circuit in various bands during the glory times in the 60's. I consider myself the keeper and guardian of this beautiful guitar, passed to me by Chris Cryer, for safe-keeping. We are both of the opinion that it is better than his current Gibson 335. I'm more of a jazzer now, and this guitar is so beautifully voiced for my style of old ballads. I'm afraid Chris is not in the best of health now, nor me, but we strive, you know? I enjoyed your playing and words and may I wish you a long life and enjoyment in your music :))) Rich Alvey UK
Thank you so much my friend. Wonderful story. All the best to you.
I just bought one. I am 73 and I am waiting for it like a kid waiting for Christmas. Here in Brazil they cost about 1,200.00 USdollars. But it is worth, great guitars. I had one with a humbucker and made the mistake of selling it. But this with the P90 is a keeper!
Nice. I hope you love it. They’re very well made guitars. Thanks so much for watching.
what is better, this or affinity series tele?
Nothing at all wrong with either but I would consider this a step up. Thanks for watching.
Great demo and presentation, I couldnt agree with you more on a guitar with more value than this( mine is in ice tea burst) as the pickups alone would cost you nearly 500. There was a time where you could look in my collection and not find anything built outside of america but I have started appreciating great craftsmanship and setup over a brand name that will get a busted headstock if you look at it wrong. Gibson was a goal for me but when I got there it wasnt as sweet as I had expected....no shame in an epiphone they really do go to great length to give you a quality instrument at a reasonable price.
Exactly. When I was coming up there were very few quality brands to choose from, now there are almost too many to keep track of, and at every price point. Thanks so much for watching.
I’m not knocked out by the tone of my Tonemaster blonde deluxe reverb… but like the weight and attenuation… I’m wondering if the firmware update will make a difference
I’m not aware of a recent firmware update. But then it’s been quite awhile since I checked.
Wonderful review!
Thank you so much. Happy you enjoyed it.
I appreciate the experienced review
Thanks so much.
Probably the odd one out and own neither except the dream plugin by uad. But I like the tonemaster as it’s warmer and sweeter.
Based on some of the comments, we may both be in the minority, since I agree with you. Actually so does the other musicians I work with. I wanted to let people make up their own minds, but we all felt the Tone Master sounds, as you said, warmer and sweeter. It also felt more dynamic under the fingers. To be fair, the UA Dream is way more tweakable so it’s possible I could have gotten it closer, but to me it still sounds and feels more like a pedal, whereas the Tone Master feels more like an amp. Thanks so much for watching.
I have never found a strat that I like and I’ve owed a lot of them. Came across the NF 3 a blue one with rosewood neck..love it . Then I saw an orange one with the maple neck and added that to my collection. For the price and quality they cant be beat .
I agree. I am a long time Strat player, but when I bought my first Strat in 1970, I’d been playing an SG and the single coils seemed way too thin. It took awhile to learn to get the most out of them and it’s understandable that some are only comfortable with humbuckers or P90s. The Narrowfields on the NF3 are great for getting the focus of a Strat while having the push of a humbucker. Thanks so much for watching.
You reading cards like a newsman
Cards? Not sure what that has to do with the content but I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless.
Adjust the pickup pole pieces for Your tone.
I find polepiece adjustment most effective for string balance, then overall height adjustment to fine tune the sound. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for a straightforward and uncluttered review. I like the idea of wrangling a simple and pure amp like this and putting the focus on the playing.
Absolutely. A good, solid basic tone then let the playing do the rest. Thanks for watching.
Great guitar and great playing! I have one on the way! Be safe…Cheers..
Thank you my friend. Enjoy yours!
Sounds great. Why did they make it that ugly Mustard colour ? Can't buy it because of that.
It’s pretty close to the traditional 1950s TV Yellow. When doing a vintage recreation, replicating the vintage finish is just good marketing. Thanks for watching.
I have the Slash J45 Epiphone and it sounds great with the LRBaggs👍
Nice. Well enjoy it and thanks for watching.
The bridge has such a nice bitey honk- no ice pick. Great playing/demo
Thank you so much my friend.
Another question is this Epiphone better than the PRS SE Single Cut McCarty 594
They’re quite different. Both are nice but on average l the PRS SEs play a little better out of the box. Thanks for watching
@@leonardgriffieblues5845 Thanks for replying.
Somebody needs to come up with a clean, single or dual tube, “Tubifier” to put in the loop of modelling amps. High voltage power supplying the tubes. Something that will compress a bit and help create that tube response and vibe without the weight or expense.
I have to say, this amp compresses and responds to playing dynamics more like actual tubes than any modeling device I’ve tried. Thanks so much for watching.
Of course! The Deluxe Reverb ToneMaster is awesome, can't find anything close.
I have to agree. Many sound pretty good, but the Tone Master feels better under the fingers. Thanks for watching.
Bought mine today my 4th Eastman..awesome review ..makes me very happy🙏🙏
Thank you my friend. Eastman makes some really nice guitars. Enjoy yours!
Finally someone playing the Blues in a demo! Great review.
Thank you my friend. Appreciated.
Amen, Chip - - 4:46 is the sweet stuff.
please do a review with The Ibanez AS 93 , comparing with the Epiphone ES 335!!!
Not a bad idea. Of course I’m not sponsored so guitars I review are bought for the purpose, and I always have to keep that in mind and use my limited funds wisely.
Just bought a used one....love it!!
Nice. Enjoy it and thanks for watching.
Just superb. You have a great touch and a sweet vibrato!
Thank you my friend.
Great take on a topic important to guitar players. I have a PRS SE Mira that I absolutely love. It’s light on the shoulder, looks and sounds great, and it is so easy to play. I’m 69, been playing 55 years. Playability is the biggest thing for me, followed closely by cost. We don’t need to spend a fortune to find a great guitar these days.
And the fact is, any properly built guitar can be made to play superbly in the hands of a skilled luthier or repairman. Thanks so much for watching.
Really nice playing! Thanks for the great review - I’ve watched a few and everyone says the same thing - the S3 is a great guitar. It sounds great in your skilled hands.
Thanks so much. Yes, it’s a very capable instrument for not a lot of money. Thanks for watching.
Man your tone from 2:30 on…. 🔥 And those licks 👅
Thank you my friend. Appreciated.
In PRS se they have a lot of model (se ce , se 24 , se 24 08) that have same pickup and sound same for my years
I think the models you mentioned may have the same pickups, but others, like the SE McCarty 594, SE DGT, SE Paul’s Guitar, etc. have pickups unique to the model and do sound different. Thanks so much for watching.
Trying to decide if I want this one or the Black Custom version... if only I could get those pickups in the Custom ;) Yea I know the Gibson version has the 490/498T but those just aren't my favorites. Fantastic review, you might have swayed me a little towards this one!
Yeah, those Custombuckers are hard to beat. Thanks so much for watching.
Killer neck pickup on that model. I recently bought an SE Santana and SE Grissom model. This one is also in my sights. This is one of the best reviews I've seen for it.
Thank you my friend. Yes, I liked this one quite a bit. With the models mentioned, it’s really about your preferred neck profile and control layout. Thanks for watching.
Got mine finally! Hard to get a leftie in thw vintage burst! Its magnificent!
That’s great. Enjoy it and thanks for watching!
Excellent review. Thanks!
Thank you so much. Appreciated. 👍🏼
I'm loving this white blonde/maple combo. Great video!
Thanks so much. It is a great look.
I would say the Squier Classic Viibes are just as good as Fender Players series. That much I know. I am a Fender Squier player.
Materials quality may not be quite on par, but build quality is very close. Classic Vibes are a great value and do the job nicely. Thanks for watching.
Every players knows the G and L pickups are hotter. It's a no brainer. In defense of the Squier, it's well made, it may just not be your taste. I wouldn't turn the Classic Vibe down.
The build quality is close. Beyond that, they’re simply different. Choose based on which speaks to you. Thanks for watching.
The Tone Master amps SUCK!
I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest you don’t buy one. 🤣
Would you say the neck is on the thicker side?
No, feels very much like an average 60s Fender. I learned to play on an early 60s Jazzmaster and it’s very reminiscent of that.
Out of all the demos of this guitar on UA-cam, yours makes it sound the best. Are you using any pedals, or just overdriven amp?
Thank you my friend. No pedals, just the amp cranked to about 7.
Great tone!
A solid instrument for sure. Thanks for watching.
I just pulled the trigger on the PRS SE McCarty 594 in sunburst. I'm happy with my choice although I was thinking about the SE DGT as well. I still might buy one the DGT's as some point. Great video and playing Leonard.
Thanks so much my friend. Enjoy it!
