We are a husband and wife team. We’ve learned a lot through trial and error and You Tube videos. Local support has gotten less and less over the years and I thought We could share what We’ve learned. Getting started in helicopters was challenging, ultimately I hope our videos spread ideas and make this hobby more enjoyable. There's always something to learn and putting new ideas and new equipment into action is both exciting and rewarding. Fly safe, stay healthy and NEVER stop learning!

Trex 550X IKON II Self Level Rescue DEMO
Watch from the ground and onboard the 550X as I switch the switch for the first time. This is my first time flipping the switch on Self level AND Rescue. I messed around a little with self level but never rescue. I was QUITE SURPRISED the first time!!! These are not the full capabilities of the system, just what happens when you check the box’s and flip the switch.

MY Align 550X - Ikon 2 - DX9 settings
Переглядів 3,8 тис.3 роки тому
ONE CORRECTION: normal throttle settings are: 0/40/70/70/70. This is how I set my helicopter up. I expect that these setting will evolve over time...for example I have found with some helicopters I lower the RPS in normal, others I leave at 70% or increase. Just keep in mind not all ESCs/FBLs operate the same...not even within a brand...Align ESCs for example on 500 helicopters and below are cu...
Align T Rex 550X Rc helicopter
Переглядів 18 тис.3 роки тому
Rc helicopter. Self leveling demo, 70MPH fly-by, loops and lite 3D. It flew great. Gotta say I'm super happy with it. Single battery ease, "Large scale" feel/presence in the sky. Its easy to live with and awesome in the air! I cannot wait to put some more flights on it. NEXT I'll be trying "rescue" in the Flight Controller and maybe a mod or two?
Align T Rex 550X Check flight 1 (in 4K)
Переглядів 2,3 тис.3 роки тому
This is my first Operational Check Flight on the 550X. The ESC is set to governor mode, the 50% calibration has been completed. The idea here is to feel out the Idle settings/transitions, check the FBL flight style setting, monitor tail response and get a general feel for how everything works together. With all of my "out of the box" settings this check flight went GREAT...next its time to take...

If you want it to self level you adust the elevator in D/R.
Is any of these parts interchangeable with the 180 cfx
Could you please explain to me how to UPDATE, CONFIGURE, ETC., the "SPEKTRUM Avian 85-Amp Smart Lite Brushless ESC - SPMXAE85A"??? I'm not talking about other Models because of those - MOST OF THEM - I know how to do it, IT'S JUST ABOUT THIS ONE, OK? Thanks
Great video, i see that you have trex 500x. I have same i cant solve tail walk issue. What is your setting? Speed / gain ?? Thanks
This is my next car...what did this sell for or ballpark? Had an 88 vert and 89 coupe but want the zf6 and G92 rear
Meanwhile there is an adapter cable BXA76405. It has a 4pin connector on receiver side and a 6pin connector on Microbeast Plus side and is configured for direct connecting of both devices. Nothing to change before usage. I bought one last week. It works well regarding the servos. But I have an issue regarding throttle. The THR signal does not arrive at the ESC, hence the motor rejects to run. I have no idea whats missing here. Any clue?
Appreciate the info…not sure about the throttle, maybe verify hold is off and calibrate the ESC.
haha!!... ole ford was blowin smoke tryin ta catch that bowtie!🤣🤣
@@natertater1978 It was his first time on the 1/4 mile…super nice guy…heard he did much better on the next one…but a wins a win…I’ll take it😎
Does these boxes rattle when driving?
@@jarrydubbelyu2166 not on pavement, I don’t hear anything from under the Tonneau cover. I’m sure if you filled it with chains you’d hear it😆. But if you pack it reasonably anchored aren’t getting the truck airborne you won’t hear anything.
Unfortunately the angle of the camera isnt that good at sometime when you Show the things
Sorry about that…it was all done before I could see the footage so I was kind of stuck with it.
The tail kick on spool up is pissing me off.piece of crap.worst heli I've owned
I guarantee you can tweek it out…this is the 470 that feels like a 550.
How do I tell if I have the blade 500 or the blade 500x mine has the flybar but on the canopy it says 500x
If it has a fly bar it’s a 3D for sure. Thanks for checking out the channel!
Great job! Can it fit a 3s 4500 mah..i have a couple of new ones i use in my boats...thanks
Those are probably to heavy…I wouldn’t jump up to that. I doubt it. You could try a 3000 but even that might be nose heavy.
If it fits i can make it work by adding a couple of grams to to the tail...but i am sure there is a bigger battery that is just right..thanks
Rather with the 4651t receiver plugged into the side port, what type of receiver do you have p,urged into the other port?
With a XLRS2 plugged into the side of the Microbeast Plus, I’m not clear on what type of satellite receiver is plugged into the aileron port. Is it a DSM2, DSMX, or other?
I have a DSMX
Beastx documentation absolutely stinks. With the FC6250 unit available, which does pretty much the same thing, I will not buy in to any more Beastx units. Finally found a manual from Align that comprehensively explains how to set up the system. Emailed Beastx numerous times with zero resoibe. Needed support for a FC6250. Got online via chat with Horizon Hobby and had my issue resolved within a couple minutes.
Enjoyed your videos I just built my t Rex 550 dominator today everything went together good watch your videos just a back up directions are great and do a couple things different and it worked out great waiting for my receiver and GPS controller to come in and get it out flying thanks for your help
Congratulations on the 550…it really is a great size helicopter. I think you’re really going to enjoy it. Thanks for watching!
Seems like too much of a problem. I think I'll just get a different FBL Maybe a FBL with integrated receiver like the beast X. I have the Align TB40 and building it now, this was a great video thanks. Just need a receiver to work with an fbl
I prefer Ikon…it’s mostly programming…beast X isn’t bad…I just find Ikon more intuitive.
My own flies 3s 3200(13x6) as fast as yours for up to 10mn
I’m sure prop, engine and set-up play some kind of factor.
What video system are you using? Love all the info on the screen.
It’s a GoPro with the GPS data on, then you run it through a telemetry program…I have a video on it.
Looks like a great video, 17 mins in got dizzy from all the back and forth camera, sorry but prefer tripod mounted cams.
I like the first person view…guess it’s not for everyone. You might want to take a some Dramamine before you watch the flight video😆
It's the same tap on the coal situation was to tap and bring down the v tree from the right wing with wide and narrow covers 😂 Kneel!
Birds gettin chopped😆
Was watching your video again for the second time. I really enjoy the way you have explained everything. My Avistar is also sitting on a Robart stand. It brand new and im going with a glow engine. A Saito 62, hoping that will he enough power. So today ive put the 4th and final coat of polyurethane varnish on the both sides of the engine firewall and tank bay. I do this with all my glow planes and it does go someway to help fuel proof them. We are similar in that i also have a trimmed out flight first before the actual maiden flight. I think that is a very good idea. On most of my glow planes i do epoxy the wings together. But on the Avistar i might just do like you and keep them separate for assembly at the field. The multiservo connector you have for the wing and flap servos, i also have some of the same , but ive only ever used them once and that is in my big electric Eflite T28 Trojan. I still have that plane and they are very handy indeed for connecting quickly. So as im going to also instal the flap servos as well i will used another one of these connectors as they are indeed convenient. Great video and thanks again for sharing it. Im looking forward to getting this plane together and flying it. I hope you are still enjoying your Avistar.
I’m 100% happy with it…for an ARF kit it’s really well done, lots of options for the entry level builder or anyone who want a quick set-up😎
Thx for posting. Working up the courage to fly mine 👍
I hover them 2-3 flights, do all the basics 2-3 flights and work up from there. Thanks for checking out the content!
Hey quick question is there any way to adjust the motor pinion and main gear mesh? I purchased this heli used and the main gear has a ton of back lash. Looking at the motor plate I can’t see anywhere to allow for and aft movement of the motor
I believe there is a little wiggle room using the motor mount screws to the frame
Great video. Well flown by the pilot. The Avistar can move.
It’s a great airplane…I’m not sponsored, just throw on some larger wheels to get the prop away from the ground.
I decided to go ahead and buy the Avistar Elite. My postman delivered it yesterday. Im going to power it with a Saito 72 that has been in its box for nearly three years. I think this engine should be a good match for the Avistar Elite. I like the colour scheme and im looking forward to assembling it. Im just wondering will the flaps help to slow it down for landings?
One tip…put larger wheels on it, to get the prop away from the ground. You’re going really enjoy it, it’s a great aircraft and a great value! Congratulations
Thanks. I've changed my mind about the Saito 72 as it won't fit the engine mount and would mean having to drill more holes in the firewall. But what I do have is a slightly less powered Saito 62 at 10cc which fits the engine mount perfectly. I just hope it won't struggle to get off the ground. Yes, I have bought new bigger wheels for the Avistar. Instead of a smaller wheel at the front, I was going to keep them all the same size. What do you think? Kind regards.
Why are you worried about a perfect level on a rescue feature? If I need to use bailout all I care about is that the heli is upright and heading away from the dirt.
Rescue locks to where the FBL initializes…it’s best to let the FBL initialize on a level surface anyway. I’ve seen issues when it was crooked on my tailgate…it’s ugly.
Lovely plane and great video. I really enjoyed watching it. Very well explained too. I love Great Planes model aircraft. They are so well built and covered and they use good quality wood in the construction. I have two of their planes ive had for years and they are still flying as good as the day i bought them and thats over ten years ago. . An Escapade 61 and a Cherokee 40. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas.
Thank you…at some point we each have our own set-up and fine touches so I hope the video shows off these great products and inspire others in the hobby. Merry Christmas to you as well!
rc planes are NOT MADE OF STYROFOAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay…what’s the technical scientific name for it…at our field it’s wood or plastic or styrofoam🤷🏻♂️
Where can we get this mount
The gentleman’s name is Bryan Byrdsong…you can look him up on Facebook.
Big Help! Much Appreciated!!
No worries…hope the set-up goes well for you!
One of the most informative videos I've watched so far...I'm a total (Helicopter) beginner with much to learn and this one has been very helpful. Thanks
Thank you. It was a struggle getting to this level of the hobby and I hope my content helps others. My best advice to you is work your way up in size…each level will teach and challenge you…if you want to advance faster, a simulator is the ticket…they each have their ups and downs😂…get one that’s readily available and go to town. If your meticulous with your maintenance and willing to work at it…it can be a great hobby. Thanks for checking out the channel!
I'm currently building this model and was going to put a G51 super tiger glow engine but this video has me thinking I'll do it electric now at least to get it in the air and trimmed out!
It’s a size you go either way…not even taking a side in the gas VS electric argument😆
Do you set manually for 3d or through tx with microbeastx plus. Is ikon better than microbeastx plus
I use Ikon…stunt one is 70% throttle, 3D with expo, stunt 2 is 80% throttle, 3D, very little expo.
i typed you name on FB and there are a lot of people name Kevin Zenner. i have a question. i just transition from futaba to spektrum. i purchased the ix14 radioand smart esc and smart CF6250HX flight controller w/ SRXL2 Receiver. horizon hobby tech told me that i would not be able to get telemetry with my microbeast. because the SRXL2 receiver had to be connected TO THE BEASTX. i guess they were lying to me
I am trying to replace my Oxy2's main grips with Align 300''s grips because Oxy2's grips recently have a batch of mixed-up thrust bearing where they put the outer disk of the thrust bearing on the inner side and inner disk on the outer side. The radial bearing itself ended up bearing the thrust of centrifugal force because the disk is not tight enough to stop the sinking inner tube of the radial bearing. I am not sure about Lynx's commitment to continue the Oxy2 product after COVID disruption. I can not use Align 250's main grips because they don't have thrust bearing and the wear with each hard landing is noticeable. I don't know if Align 300's main grips have thrust bearing either, but I placed an order anyway. Wish me luck. I do FPV city diving with 250-gram heli and it needs very high precision/consistency parts.
Sounds cool!
Put it inverted then hit rescue bailout!
I’m going to have to do with my 300 or something…can’t bring myself to do with my prized 550X. I know it’s not the greatest heli ever made or anything but it’s honestly my favorite helicopter.
You have to add some negative pitch when you loop, looks like you just looped BUT added ZERO NEGATIVE PITCH! I thought you were going IN on your very first loop.
I’ll definitely try that
Amazing video thank you
Hopefully it helps. The helicopter flew great.
Very very stable
Things a MONSTER😎😎😎
The picture is blurry
Not sure what was up with that…think something was on the lens? Thank for checking out the video!
I'm about to receive mine next week. but still waiting on my vcontrol to arrive so no flying for me :(
So what did you think of it?
Could we make flyable this heli using a futaba s-fhss rx and a microbeast?
I would think so. I don’t use Futaba but I’m almost certain it can be done.
Hello this question might be a little off but could you tell me if all the spare parts for this heli is a available on align website?seems like spare parts are not completely available
I’m not sure…haven’t had to buy but a few from E-bay and heli direct. Thanks for checking out the channel.
This is exactly my issue. BUT. big but. I'm running an 8020t. And I want to use the internal governor on a nitro. Based on your discovery. It's not possible. As the plug for the Srxl2 is where you plug in the darn governor sensor. This is a joke. I'm kinda pissed. Thank you for your video. As you did confirm exactly my problem. But it still doesn't fix my issue one nitro. I have a microbeast2. And when you check the firmware update. Its stating it's an ultra. When it's not. I have had the 700 on my bench for months as well. 😢
There’s an Ikon in it now.
Why didn't you buy the same size battery as the oem align? I'm not being negative at all, I'm genuinely curious..
Great question, honestly I didn’t realize the batteries had the different shape…they are similar cell and mah. This isn’t typically an issue but with the confined size and design of this particular helicopter it requires a little modification. After modifying the canopy a little the batteries do fit fine. Thanks for checking out the channel!
The crazy bit is that gull wasn't cut just once. That was two or three blades chopping it apart. It's legit impossible to fathom how fast a helo's rotor spins.
Fork is in the canal which the same seagul covered it for them to erect the pallet so the saw hammer and fork can remain hidden under the square pallet which are all in the canal 😭 And the tosser blew up the helicopter 😭
That was the yellow belly finch when one bak was deployed 😭😂
Heli blades are serious…I’ll admit I didn’t acknowledge their ability until the head on my 400 EXPLODED and the blades nearly took me out😳🫣😆😎
You can't beat the IKON. All my helis are setup with IKONs.
Simple…always works…room to grow…no brainer for me.
I have the Transistor Dx6i so which receiver should I get can you help me and are they compatible with my radio
When I was using the DX6I I used the 6210 receivers. Thanks for checking out the channel.
Hey how do you like this escs? Thinking about using one on my 700! Thanks
It worked good…rite on par with others but also SMART ready.
@@rcflightz2058 thanks, I've been offered a cheape older castle creations but I've just bought the spektrum flybarless unit and I'm also on the dx9 so I'm tempted to try that ESC!
