Приєднався 4 лют 2022
Hi, I'm Laura. Welcome to my channel, where I share with you my experiences of creating a wardrobe which is so very me! I've got pattern reviews, chatty catch ups, collaborations, UA-cam challenge videos, and the odd fabric purchase or two! Please join me on my journey!
What did I buy in the sales?
Hello again! I'm back with my first vlog for 2025, in which I'm showing you the various fabrics I picked up in the end of year/January sales. There's quite a bit, but this is partly thanks to the generosity of my former colleagues who kindly gifted me a £100 voucher for Minerva.com which I've been holding onto since May. So grab a cuppa and find out what I got!
Let me know know in the comments which of my choices you like best.
Everything I mention in the vlog is listed below with links where possible except the items from Boyes, which doesn't do online sales.
You can also find me over on Instagram where I am also @SewVeryLaura
Until next time, Happy Sewing!

Hello again! Grab a cuppa and join me as I show you what I bought at the Sewing for Pleasure show at the NEC on Friday! I think I was reasonably sensible, though there was one impulse purchase of fabric! I went with the lovely Sam who is @sequingirlie here on UA-cam and Instagram, and we also managed to catch up with Sam @SewLetsSparklewithSam during the day. Everything I mention in the vlog is...

Переглядів 2443 місяці тому
Hi everyone! It's been a good week in the sewing room! I finally finished my bomber jacket of dreams, and I’ve also stopped procrastinating about using my Cricut Maker 3 as I’ve used it to finish off a plain black t-shirt, and I’m really happy with the results. I’ve also got some sewing bargains to show you - some intentional, and one I found by accident in a local shop. So grab that cuppa and ...

My final make for the Busy Bees Challenge 2024! I love it, but it's not for me!!
Переглядів 2164 місяці тому
I’m back today to show you my make for the final #busybeeschallenge2024, which was something to wear on a Mediterranean beach holiday. I chose to make shorts for my husband which have been planned since I got the fabric, but I've never made time to sew them so this challenge was a good incentive to get them made. I used McCalls M7987: thefoldline.com/product/mccalls-mens-shorts-and-trousers-m79...

Busy Bee Sewing Challenge 2 Reveal: How did I get on?
Переглядів 5735 місяців тому
Find out how I got on with the second Busy Bee challenge in #BusyBeesSewingChallenge24. I chose to transform a thrifted jacket into a tote bag using the free Ethel tote bag pattern by Swoon. I think upcycling is really important, and a real skill, but I was nervous about this challenge. However, I loved the look of the jacket I found in my local charity shop, and thought it had the potential to...

Great vlog. Maybe put the microphone on your t shirt. As you keep covering it with fabric. Which distorts the sound and makes noises. I love your Lady McElroy fabric. Bargain. Love GG fabric. I love Minerva chromatic fizz. It’s so gorgeous. I made TATB Erin dungarees initially. And then Sussex Seamstress Hurstpierpoint top. I have a permanent 10% discount code you can use. It’s on my grid.
Thanks Anne! You’re right about the mic!! I managed to get rid of some of the distortions in edit, but it will be easier if I avoid the problem in the first place. I’m really happy with my fabric bargains- just need to pick the right patterns to do them justice now. Thanks for reminding me about your Minerva code.
Hi Laura, so nice to see you back. Sorry about you Mom, sending Hugs. Love the fabric hall, colors are great for you. Your new set up of camera is great and sound quality is really good. But you should wear your mic on the other side. You are rubbing your fabric across the Mic and also covering it up when you are show fabric across your shoulder, loosening the sound quality. Will love to see what you make from your new fabrics!
Thank you so much for the hugs, much appreciated. Glad you like the new setup and yes, I definitely need to move the mic for fabric hauls!
You just popped up on my feed today. I do love watching stashes of fabrics. I love the patterns especially the building one. Remember the good times with your mum, speak of her often. Hugs xx
Thank you so much for watching! I couldn’t resist the buildings one. It’s so unusual! My Mum is being mentioned every day, and I think she always will be. I have a lot of very happy memories, which does help, as do the hugs! Xx
New set up is great and thank you for using a lapel mic! 👍🏻
Good to see you back Laura, hope you’re doing okay. Some great fabrics. A romy lantern top will look great in your building fabric, I love that pattern
Hi Laura, it was me that was making the Linden sweatshirt at Scothern! Yes it would look lovely as a Billie dress have you thought of SOI Heather dress? xx
New set up good for me. Lovely fabrics...
Hi Laura, lovely to see you back & a great fabric haul. So sorry to hear of your mum passing 🫶🏼 xx
Sorry to hear about your mum. I don't see much at all at my local Boyes, compared to some vloggers I've watched - there's just one aisle of fabric on both sides and that is it. I lived in Lincolnshire for a while before moving where we are now, but I don't recall ever going in the Boyes there. Some lovely fabrics there. I love the purple cord with the floral fabric. I need to look in more detail at Jenny Stiches. Also that Minerva French Terry with the colour splodges is gorgeous. I have just started to add some content to my channel and I am finding all the technology a bit bewildering. I didn't want to invest a lot if this wasn't going to work (the Yorkshire in me!) but I am trying my camera (which is quite a good one) or my phone, and I have so far bought a phone bracket to go on a tripod (I have table-top and full-size tripods as I was a keen photographer), a wireless shutter release and a microphone. Then I'm learning the editing, etc. It's all very new to me and I need to push past the fear!
Big hugs Laura I lost my mum in 24 too and there is so much to sort out afterwards but when it is done you can focus on the happy memories imprinted in your heart ♥️
xXX👍👍👍
Lovely to see you and your mahoosive fabric haulathon 😻 looking forward to seeing what yo7 make with them all. I’m waiting for some corduroy to arrive, I think mine is more burgundy than purple though I like your new techi set up. You will have to get out of the habit of laying your fabric on your chest and stroking it, it covers your mic and it sounds like you’re underwater vlogging which makes me giggle as it’s why I don’t wear my mic 🫢 🤣 Take it easy Laura 😍🩷🤩
Thanks, Julie. You should have heard it before I cleaned up the audio!! I guess if I’d vlogged underwater, it would have pre-washed the fabric at the same time! I might try putting the mic next to me rather than on me next time! Looking forward to catching up with you properly next month 😘
Hi Laura, it’s so good to see you back on you tube. It was lovely to spend time with you and I’m always here 🥰 take care and look forward to seeing you next month xx
Good to see you back, Laura. Sorry to hear about your mum. I fell foul of the needlecord nap thing. I made trousers and didn't realise I'd cut the pockets the wrong way until I'd sewn them on and almost finished the make. I've got enough to recut the pockets but the trousers are in the naughty corner right now.
Thanks Liz. It’s been a tough couple of months, but it’s good to feel back in the right headspace to vlog again. I hope you get your pockets sorted!
Ooh, that purple cord is gorgeous. I love the two cord/jersey combos you've chosen for pinafores and tops, they will look fantastic.
Thank you! I’ve got a few other jerseys in my stash I should dig out too!
Bless you. You are one away from 1K. I wish I were the one to push you over but I have already been subscribed to you! It'll happen this week!❤
Thanks Zelda! I was over 1K but I’ve had a bit of a break after my Mum died unexpectedly and lost a few subscribers while I’ve been off. Hopefully people will come back soon! I’ve just released a vlog this evening x
@SewVeryLaura I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum. I lost my mom over 27 years ago and some days it feels like yesterday. Don't worry about the numbers. They will come up. I will definitely check out your video later today.
Thank you for a great detailed review, and the details you put in the notes. Watching from Canada 🇨🇦!
Thank you for a great video and brilliant ideas. I do love capsule wardrobe ideas ❤
Thank you!
Great idea to create a whole capsule collection out of cotton! Just shows how versatile it is. Thanks so much for joining the vlog tour Laura!
Thanks Yvette. It was a fun challenge to think about.
Lovely ideas. Hope your mum's ok. I was sitting in my mum's conservatory today, also in my boots to keep warm!!!
Thanks, Jilly. As we now know, Mum wasn’t OK, but at time of recording I was hoping she might pull through. That conservatory really is freezing cold!!
Great take on the challenge Laura & some good suggestions 😍
Thank you, Claire! X
It was lovely to see you. Enjoying seeing what guy purchased after I set off into Birmingham xx
very interesting, so easy to lose enthusiasm or get nervous about a project, really useful to think about why. I have a few WIPs. I think I have learnt I have a short attention span and get caught up in all the new shiny things. Whilst I think I am being more efficient cutting out a number of things at once, I am actually better cutting and sewing one thing at a time and actually finishing things.
Hi Laura, I went to the show yesterday and had a lovely day. I also purchased the firework fabric from Roy’s material world and the made to be subtle labels. I felt the show wasn’t as big as the March one
Looks like you had a lovely day Laura 🥰
I love living in Northumberland but it's so far from anywhere. I'm about 50 miles from the Scottish border. Travel is so expensive and the trains very unreliable too. One day, maybe, I'll get to the Harrogate show...
Congratulations on your thousand subscribers, Laura, and well done for finishing the bomber. Love the fabric!
I'd love to hear from you in the comments below! Do please let me know what you'd like to see more of on my channel - sewalongs, pattern reviews, anything else! Please give me a thumbs up if you have enjoyed the vlog, and consider subscribing. I've just hit 1K subscribers, so I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has subscribed so far whether you've been with me from the beginning or joined me relatively recently. It's been amazing to share my sewing journey with you, and I'd love to have more of you along for the ride. Subscribing is absolutely free, by the way, in case you were wondering! x
xXX👍👍👍
Thank you Victoria xxx
I very much enjoyed your piece on procrastination. This is my first time to see your videos. I could identify completely with all of the reasons you gave. I have fabrics in my stash, which is not huge, that were bought as far back as 15 years ago maybe longer. Some don't appeal to me as much anymore, or I no longer have enough fabric for my more mature figure. However in the last 3 months I made a denim style jacket which fits me well and I got compliments every time I wore it and that has spurred me on greatly. I made a note of some of the patterns you mentioned that are really lovely especially B6388. I need to check if they are still available. I have subscribed so I hope you reach your 1000 target very soon. I'm now going to check out some of your other blogs.
PS I'm not sure what I have to do to have a user name instead of a series of numbers. Kathleen
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing! Where possible I’ve linked to the patterns in the description. The Butterick is definitely still available. I made a denim jacket recently - they are such a labour of love, aren’t they, so it’s great when someone notices how nice it is. I wore mine today. I think you might need just to set up an account to get a name. It’s free and it doesn’t commit you to vlogging! I have a second channel which I use to watch and comment on non-craft related videos.
Thanks for sharing your wips, and reasons. I get to the fiddly bits and get distracted by the next project. Or if it isn't finished in time for Christmas or birthdays, I get upset about it and the project just never gets finished. I am hoping the #finishthatwip2024 challenge this month helps me get the ones on the top of the sewing table FINISHED.
Thank you! Yes, the fiddly bits can be off putting. I’ve learned with birthday and Christmas gifts never to aim for the actual day, which sounds dreadful but I think I would stress too much if I put myself under that pressure. I’m definitely making an effort to progress my various projects - having put them out there on UA-cam, it’s an incentive to get on with them! I hope you manage to complete some of yours too, but don’t put yourself under too much pressure!
If you’ve enjoyed this Vlog, please hit the like button so that I know what sort of content you like to see on my channel. Please also let me know below what else you would like to see. Hello Laura. I'm here stopping by for a few minutes! Have a blessed evening.
Hi Zelda! Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope all is well with you!
Re the stripy dress. I think bamboo would be way too drapey. Maybe a drapey Ponte would be good? One with a high viscose content. Re lumps and bumps. I find making a stretch lining that I attach at the neck and armholes really smooths me out! Lovely pattern. Oh and I have ordered the Butterick tunic dress pattern after spotting it in this vlog - so thank you!
I think you are right about the bamboo. Drapey Ponte sounds much better. I hadn’t thought about a lining but I do have some shapewear that would have the same effect. Thanks so much for the advice. I can definitely recommend the Butterick pattern.
