    Hey there just watched this from Portugal, so first things first you’re the man, as many said in the comments i thought I had to remove the whole dashboard, the reason I wanted to remove my heater core is because I’m loosing water slowly, and I don’t find the leak, I took it to my mechanic and he did a leak test, but no signs of it, also inside my car smells like hot coolant, like when you open the expansion tank cap type of odor. Could this piece be the reason I’m loosing coolant / nasty smell in the cabin ? Also I noticed below my carpets of the drivers seat was a bit wet, also lately my dashboard system is getting crazy, like all lights appear as red (the ones outside the car, headlights and back lights) but after I turn them on after a few seconds sometimes minutes the error disappears, the last 2 days I noticed the bulb light of the temperature needle sometimes is off sometimes is on, but lately is always been off, luckily the other lights from the km and rev panels are bright enough so I can see. Sorry for the long post, but I’ve changed a lot of stuff and still get coolant leak, I changed the egr thermostat + new oring, I’ve changed the expansion tank cap only which helped because now I don’t loose as much as before, also I’ve changed the oil radiator because it was leaking oil into the expansion thank, later my mechanic did the test to see if I had CO2 in the cooling system and it turned yellow, but maybe because it had oil in it before (or still have some minor residue) ? Once again sorry for the long post but I’m desperate at this point and it kinda gave me a light at the end of the tunnel, because I never overheated my car, don’t have white smoke out of exhaust, so I don’t want to believe it’s a head gasket failure. Not sure if you’re even seeing this shi but gotta try it somehow, thanks in advance ! ✌🏽

      Hey I read your whole comment, so from what I've seen and heard the failure rate for the heater core is extremely low. Mine turned out to not be leaking after I did this. Also There is a funnel type drain below the heater core that is supposed to drain any potential leaks to under the car and not inside /on the carpet. This drain is visible at 9:24 in the video. The usual suspect for ghost coolant leaks on these cars are the Hard plastic coolant pipes under the intake manifold and leak/ pressure tests do not always reveal it. Its a slow leak and the coolant evaporates along the Hot engine block therefore not leaving a visible leak and can make the cabin smell like coolant. So that's where I would personally look into next. Definitely a good sign if you are sure it never overheated so hopefully the head gasket is fine, and likely if you had a bad head gasket you would get some engine stumble especially cold, and misfires. But I'm not exactly sure what you mean by oil cooler leaking into the expansion tank, I'm not aware of the E46 having an oil cooler except for M3's, unless its the automatic transmission fluid cooler you are referring to, mines a manual so I'm not familiar with that system. And the dash lights seem like a really random problem, wonder if maybe you got some rain water leaking down into the car somehow and affecting electronics? I would also recommend making a post on the bmw forums like E46fanatics and getting some more input. Hope this comment helps you out a bit!

    I suggest marking your current milage and date your installing on the new filter before installing it on. I also suggest breaking the filter loose first before unscrewing it, then placing a length of cardboard between the top of the filter and past the exhaust pipe aiming at the catch pan to collect the used oil so as to not contaminate other parts that get hot when running. If you do get oil on the other parts, just spray some "Break clean" on soiled parts and wait til dry, wear eye protection before doing any work below the vehicle.

    02 330i cab..The only thing i removed was the electric fan and of cause the intake tube. Right now iam soaking the not sounding solenoids. The valves inside was not dirty at all, and i wonder how long time it will take for the solenoids to fill up with oil again? I took a bahco wrench (The one that is 32 mm when maxed out) and with a karate hit made it shorter not to reach for the radiator. One hit with a hammer and they came loose. We have a company selling o rings and alot of rubber things. They always recomend vaseline for orings before use. It keeps them young and fresh for a long time. I too some o rings from my gardena coupplings and had dem in the vaseline jar for some weaks (i forgot aboute them) so when i was going to wash my convertibe befor storing it during winter i needed the orings. They had grown up to be real men, so i could not press the coupplings toghether. I had to rush and buy new ones. So dont do any owerkill with the vaseline like i did. Had some coffe, and now i will put things in place again and take a test drive. the result comes later.

    Don’t run the super tech or Fram filters because they are junk! There’s a video on UA-cam where the guy cuts every filter in half to inspect the internals. They use plastic stoppers w chincy springs and crummy elements. WIX was #1 w K&N right behind. Fram was the worst and you can actually see how cheaply made they are. Also as a former Jiffy Lube tech I found Castrol to be a sub par oil that comes very dark and less refined. Valvoline is the way to go as it’s super clean! I run the higher mileage semi synthetic. Great video! Well made! Thank you

    I know the video is a Year old, but coming across it since i am dealing with the same issue, but from what i have read, the issue most likely was a Stuck Actuator. So when you removed it and cleaned, you inadvertantly most likely fixed 90% of the problem. Cleaning the solenoid itself so you could hear it rattle definately helped, but cleaning the actuator and reinserting was the Actual Cure.

    • @Chris.activity
      @Chris.activity 5 місяців тому

      Good comment, in mine replacing the solenoid was the ultimate fix, just doing the cleanings did not get rid of my check engine light. But I wanted to show cleaning the solenoid and actuator so everybody can see what is going on in there and for some cars that may be all thats needed.
