Are your figs pollinated by the fig wasp under the mesh?
Hello! Good question, to which I am looking for an answer myself. I have to protect all figs, including Smyrna, from the fig fly with a net. I receive mature figs of this group under the net, although in smaller quantities than usual. Therefore, I can assume that some blastophaga wasps penetrate through the cells of mesh #14. Best regards, Figs in Israel.
@@figsinisrael1043 If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy your #14 mesh net?
Would love to get cuttings of some Israeli varieties in the USA
Hello! I hope this will be possible in the near future! Respectfully, Figs in Israel
Okay, this must be the variety I have. They are as big as my hand and purple like those when ripe. I live in Florida and was given some sprouts. The owner didn't know the variety. The plant looks the same as well. One fig will fill you up. I have to quarter them.
Hello! Yes, large figs of this variety sometimes have to be cut for cooking some dishes or for drying in a dehydrator. Respectfully, Figs in Israel

Thank you for this video..Absolutely Beautiful fig variety!Where can I find this variety of fig? I would greatly appreciate any information you can offer. I live in Chandler Arizona USA. I’m interested in the best Fig varieties grown in Israel
Hello! Thank you! I sometimes see cuttings of this variety on eBay. But Izmir, it seems, is not suitable for all regions, somewhere it is successful, somewhere - not. As, incidentally, are many other varieties. Sincerely, Figs in Israel
Hello. How can I find a seedling of this variety? Toda Raba.
Hello! What country do you live in? Respectfully, Figs in Israel
Very impressive collection! In your opinion, how does this variety compare to other honey figs(Kadota, Eineki, shahmani)?
Hello! Good question! Shahmani is the sweetest of all these varieties, with a rougher skin than Yellow Long Neck, and its skin has cracks. The taste of YLN is more complex, but the pulp is less juicy. Kadota and Einekhi have a mulberry flavor, some people like it, some don't. Einekhi can crack when over-watered, YLN does not. Kadota is earlier ripening, Shahmani is medium, YLN and Einekhi are later. In general, each variety has its own characteristics that will find their consumer.. Sincerely, Figs in Israel
@@figsinisrael1043 Great answer, would love to get some cuttings if they are available this winter!
Hello! I don't know yet - life has become unpredictable.. Please write to me in December at figstaste@gmail.com What country are you from? Sincerely, Figs in Israel
Shalom shalom, thank you for sharing the insights into your figs. I have 3, well 4 very young trees. Had one fig on, but not much else..I am just off western Sahara, so a bit hotter and dryer.....any ideas as to what is the likelihood of me actually eating my home grown figs?
@@SraNje-t2r Hello! Thank you for your interest in my channel! I looked at today's weather report in Dakhla - the temperature and humidity there, on the coast, are very suitable for successful fig growing. If your garden are located far from the coast, and it is drier and very hot there, then success will be provided with good irrigation (drip irrigation is better) and the selection of varieties adapted to such conditions. Such varieties are probably known to gardeners in Western Sahara. Regarding the harvest - In the third year of cultivation, some varieties are just beginning to give the first figs, and they do not yet have full size and taste. But with each subsequent year, the yield and quality of figs improve. Other varieties can give figs from the first year of planting, but it is not a fact that they will be adapted to your conditions. I wish you successful cultivation and good harvests! Sincerely, Figs in Israel
Lovely to see . Thank you for sharing . Cheers

yesterday I had my first I258 from my 2 year old tree. Weight around 50g I can already tell from its taste its a high quality fig even for a 2 year old tree in ground tree. Totally agreed with your opinion in this vid. Keep it up!

I love the straw berry fig . I have a similar one and have made clones . Planted the said clones in several locations on Southern Vancouver Island . Thank you kindly again for sharing . Cheers

Excellent video and a great variety. Good job growing it so well.

How did you manage to get the Italian 258 into Israel? Do you think you will have cuttings available for sale of the I258 this winter? How does I258 compare to the local varieties like Sbayi in your opinion? Excellent video as always!
Hello! Local varieties of figs have been adapted to the region for centuries. New varieties need to go through their journey in several years to make comparisons and conclusions. Sbayi is a very good variety, its taste has a slight sourness, which I, for example, really like.. As for winter cuttings - I can't make plans in our crazy times, alas.. Sincerely, Figs in Israel.
Yes! Awesome tree and good looking fruit

Hi, thanks for this video. I live in Holland. And I want to chip-bud graft on een branche that is two of three times thicker than my branches where I take the buds from. Is this possible? And can I do it now in summer in Holland?
Hello! It is better to do this in the spring, of course, then the percentage of successful grafts is higher. But you can try. The temperature in Holland is now about 26 degrees Celsius during the day. Therefore, it is better to do this in the evening in cloudy weather. You need to do it quickly, the chip should not dry out. Good luck! Sincerely, Figs in Israel
I recieved this cutting of yours over a year ago and tried my first Brazilian fig today. Tree is waist height. Looking forward to harvest larger crops in the next years. North - Los Angeles, California.
Hello! Brazilian figs in the second year already give quite a decent harvest under good conditions. So good luck! Sincerely, Figs in Israel
I really like he outside color of the fig, and caramel taste profile you described. My trees are loaded with figs her in S. Cal 10b, but nothing is ripe yet. My peaches have come and gone (Florida Prince and Eva's Pride, and my persimmons won't be ready until late October. But so far, no ripe figs. Thanks for the video

So this Khurtmani is of the common type of fig not required to be pollinated by the fig wasps or not? I would like to grow it here if I can as I don’t have the wasps.

Great video! Random question, but is the black fig fly present in Israel? If so, how do you deal with them laying eggs in the figs?
Hello! Yes, it appeared in my region recently. I do not use pesticides on figs, so only a protective mesh in combination with traps gives a guaranteed result. Sincerely, Figs in Israel
@@figsinisrael1043 okay thank you! I will be moving to Southern California soon which is infested with the fly there. I will be using your method to combat it. Thank you and stay safe in the Holy Land🙏🏾!
@@Stangy04 Thank you very much, and good luck with your projects! Sincerely, Figs in Israel
Do you find this encouraging the roots to grow deep instead of spreading out shallow?
Hello! I have not yet dug up figs planted in this way, and I cannot say with accuracy about the distribution of fig roots in different depth horizons. But it is obvious that supplying water from above and below gives a better chance for uniform absorption of moisture by the roots. In addition, this reduces the risk of roots searching for water in sewer pipes laid deep in the area, penetrating them and clogging them. Sincerely, Figs in Israel
Any figs for sale?

Why do you do this method ? what will be the out come ?

Hello! Probably the last step - drying - can be done without a dehydrator. Some people probably do it in the shade outside. But I only have the experience that I talk about in my video. Sincerely, Figs in Israel
