Hi! I liked the video with the Multistradas. I have a question for you. Which is better and easier for every day use? The V4S or the Pikes Peak? Thank you.
Honestly, there's no difference in better or easier for every day use. The PP will use tires up faster, that's about it for usability differences. I have a Rally now and that has a convenience upgrade due to the larger fuel tank...for commuting I find that much better. Otherwise the Rally feels pretty much identical to a V4S except it rides marginally smoother (maybe due to more weight and/or slightly more suspension travel).
Have a bright white jeep and it is a pain doing bright white. I’ve done the three coats of primer, waited the time. Then I try to sand it down to get rid of the lines. Re tape. Then do three coats of paint let it dry the allotted time. The I do three coats of clear coat. When I take off the tape I see the very noticeable lines. When attempting to wet sand the paint comes off when attempting to blend the lines. I’m really having issues touching this up
How many cans do I need to do all 4 flares? Primer, base, and clear. Also wondering if primer is required if I’m painting over factory painted flares? I have no scratches just hoping to remove some stains on them by repainting.
Probably 2 cans each of color and Clear. Nope, Primer is not needed in your case, just scuff with 800, paint, then Clear.
So the clear coat made the paint darker ? It looked pinkish on the mid coats
As the paint dries it will appear true to color. And the Clearcoat can also impact the overall color as well, yes.
Hi! Great video. How many cans of primer, paint, and clear coat will i need to paint a whole Tesla Model Y fender? I have to replace my front driver-side fender and need to paint the replacement.
I would think 2 of each Color and Clear will do it. Probably 1 can of Primer would actually be enough, it covers and builds quickly.
Would gas on a rag work?
We don't recommend it.
What removes solvent based touch up
Around the 1:30 mark you'll see we recommend paint thinner or acetone for solvent based paint removal. If it's a catalyzed finish, you may need something such as paint stripper.
Couldn’t camera have zoomed in on initial scratches. Sighhhhh.
It’s like camera entire time was told never come close gawd forbid viewer see any detail of what’s happening during instructions lol
what brakes do you have?
R1. I do not recommend them.
So glad i found this. I touched up some nicks from small rocks on the road and only one came out pretty well, the others came out too thick and look awful. I thought i ruined my car! I have nail acetone. It is pure acetone. Hope they will work. The color matches it is the same de Scotty oem paint pen, but i just layered it on too thick
Thank you for the video
The wings on the V4 look ridiculous. 1299 is 20lbs lighter than the V4. No question that V4 is way over priced.
This video saved me 600 dollars, I already bought the touch up paint set, excited to tackle this project myself. Thanks I Do have a question: what's the stuff he's using at 1:22 the stuff he used before priming?
it’s a type of bondo it’s just filling in the dents from the crash once applied smooth it out only reason he added that is because if he didn’t add it after the whole process it will show the dent after the painting process
@diegovarela975 yeah I ended just paying the 600 dollars for new paint job lol
My retouching job was so horrible, my car looked worse than before. It was actually embarrassing. Thanks to your quick video, I was able to remove all the unwanted retouching paint ( with acetone) and even removed some other marks around the bumper. By the way, I got the acetone at the dollar store - acetone are all the same chemically speaking. A huge "thank you" for posting his video !!!!!
I weighed my 2023 V4S full tank of gas at the gas station. Bike has been fully modified including Akra full high mount exhaust -5kg, and other bunch of parts, some add weight and some lower it. In the end I got 432lb. ducati lists the bike wet no fuel weight as 417lb, and according to my best estimation, that “wet no fuel” weight is accurate.
What is the yellow thing you use to prep it- you didn’t tell.
I'm not certain which yellow thing you are referring to? The only yellow I was able to notice in the video is the masking tape around the damaged area, is there something else?
I believe it's their Scratch & Chip putty, but I could be wrong. I was wondering the same thing.
If someone posts a time-stamp, we can tell you exactly what's in the frame.
@@TouchUpDirect 1:21 is what I think they are asking about. It seems to be the putty
What is the benefit of wetting sandpaper?
There are few benefits. One is that it reduces the abrasiveness and adds lubricity to make the sanding process more controllable. Another is that as you re-wet the sandpaper it rinses the sanding dust off, keeping the dust from packing into the sandpaper and reducing it's ability to sand.
my 2018 raptor has some staining on the fender flares somehow. maybe ceramic coating and detailer sprayed chemicals on them. I need to repaint mine as well. do I need to use the putty and sand as much if im repainting over stains and not scratches or deep cuts in the flares?
No, the putty is only to repair deep scratches. It sounds like you just need to scuff them flairs and repaint them.
Is your sprays cans are waterbase paint ???
Most colors are waterborne, yes. Primer and Clearcoat are urethane based.
Is it true that your cans paints are waterbase ????
Most colors are waterborne based, the same as most new vehicle finishes. The Primer and Clearcoat are urethane based.
what's the time to fully cure after paint and clear is on ? I need to know to not add PPF too soon on top of the painted area
For PPF I'd wait about a week. It's mostly cured in 48 hours, but depending on the ambient temperatures the part lives in, it can take longer. So a week should be safe.
Materials?
We used the brush Platinum Kit for this repair.
Product type: Brush: For Base Color, Clearcoat and Primer Wax/Grease remover wipes Sand paper: Assorted Polishing compound
How long does the clear take to dry approximately?
Between coats around 15-30 minutes, depending on conditions. For final drying we recommend 2 days to be sure it's fully cured.
Why not record the finish?
If you mean painting too, it's because this is a video on how to use the putty. We have plenty of videos on how to paint as well.
Anyone catch how long after the 4 coats of color were applied did Boris say he let the color coat dry for, BEFORE adding the final 2 coats of Clear Coat? I read somewhere that it needs to dry for 3 whole days (?). Can anyone confirm or advise please? Thanks! JimS
The dry time prior to Clear is about an hour. You can find instructions related to whichever Kit you have on our website, or let me know what you purchased and I’ll send you a link. Definitely NOT 3 days.
Thanks TUD! I found it in your blog listings on the websites discussion page. My regimen was three coats of color coat, with 15 to 20 minutes wait time between each one, and then, wait 30 minutes after the third coat, following that, I put on three coats of clear, waiting 30 minutes in between each one, and the recommendation is, let it dry for 48 hours! I had a busy night last night, and all just before the LD weekend. Thank you for the reply!
If I’m using the paint touch up pen do you need to sand or use compound between the base and midcoat? Let’s say the base coat is a bit higher than the dry paint already on car. Would you want smooth that out before that midcoat? Same thing with the clear coat. How do I achieve the smooth flush touch up to paint
Hello! To do what you're referring to is very difficult because usually the damage to the vehicle, no matter how small, leaves unevenness compared to the rest of the paint. The best way to proceed is to apply as light of coat as possible, applying paint strictly to the damaged area, not outside the damaged area whatsoever. Paint itself creates a very thin film build, while Clearcoat will have a thicker film build.
I have a 2022 mustang GT premium nice paint but had some rock chips I wanted to cover let my co worker fix it since he is a painter he left one spot super thick like you can see it far away if I use paint thinner would it come off easy? It’s been setting there for like 2-3 months and would it damage my paint?
Most likely it would come off fine using the methods in the video. But without knowing the brand of the touchup, I can't say that with absolute certainty. The methods in the video will not harm your original finish.
This just saved me! Thank you!
My wife has a 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan. There were scratches on the passenger side from a recent trip to the airport. I was able to buff some out, but one scratch was deep and I over-buffed it, removing the paint. I ordered the touch up spray6 can kit matching the color from the factory. It was a perfect match and the car looks great. Never did that before but the videos showed how easy it was.
I may need to apply a few more coats bc mine is super light
For damage like this, I’d skip the Putty and just use Primer to fill in. However, if the scratch is deep in any places, the Putty can be useful. But the scratch to this car only needed Primer, not Putty. For the detail, it doesn’t really matter, before or after. However, if you do the detail before the touch up, then be 100% sure that you clean any wax or surfactant from the scratched area before doing the touch up. Thanks!
Would you recommend the putty to be used along with the paint kit from your website for a damage like this; or just the 3 pen kit - such as demonstrated in this video? And if planning on doing an exterior detailing with compound, polish and wax - would you recommend I wait some time, do it before/after the paint correction with your kit? Any feedback would be great! Received your kit + putty in the mail today and very eager to get it fixed! Thanks in advance 😊
Comparing the new paint should be step one I’m not doing any of that other stuff until I know I’m not wasting my time😂
Should the clearcoat be shiny as soon as you apply the third coat? I cannot get a good shine on mine no matter how much I machine polish or wax - any thoughts on why?
The 1199 with the magnesium rims looks the best of the 3, to me.
The reason for the different colour carbon swing arm is Kevlar. It's woven into the carbon pre preg in high impact areas. Common in the motorsport world.
Short answer inflation..
I'm not so sure inflation explains it. The inflation rate from 2017-2020 was about 1.875%, indicating the V4SL should cost $81,500 instead of $100k.
@@TouchUpDirect but wouldn’t you agree that it cost more to produce the v4 sl.
@@ItsjusUno manufacturing costs, likely yes. In relation to inflation, minimally.
T-cut in small circular motions just dandy
What clear coat did you use
We used our own TouchUpDirect Clearcoat.
Now we've waited "the proper amount of time"... meaning?
Until it is dry...generally 15-20 minutes depending on weather conditions.
is there a certain type of acetone solution to use for a car or any acetone solution will do?
No specific type, any will do as far as I'm aware of.
what is the primer pen for? I don't see any footage of it being used in the video above.
The Primer Pen is a limited use product. In many cases it's not required where a Pen is the best solution overall. The exceptions are deeper nicks or dings that are deep into the substrate yet very small. This type of damage is more uncommon so it makes the Pen Primer a less commonly used product.
Great video. Thanks.
Wow i have a 1299s and was going to sell for a v4 base model but maybe not any more... ❤
Test ride a V4! It's pretty special...
How many cans would you recommend for a whole hood 😭 I’m looking into buying the kit but I’m unsure how many cans will be needed
Depending on the vehicle, it's usually 2-3 cans required.
Love them both but the 1299 steals my heart
You really have to use that song for the video? 🤦♂️
How many fenders can this kit fix?
It somewhat depends. If you are Priming the entire flare, then figure 1 Kit per flare. You'll have extra, but 1 Kit will likely not be enough for 2. If you re not Priming and just painting over existing paint, 1 Kit will paint multiple flairs.
@@urithatcher8950 my flares have chemical stains on them somehow. would a couple of these kits work to cover the flares?
@@IsaacConover Sure, you could scuff and repaint them doing pretty much exactly as the video shows.
I have a couple of small rock chips that were done quite poorly by a body shop that was clearly not interested in the job, and they look absolutely awful. Now, I am interested in re-doing the chips myself, as I have more knowledge as to how it is done. Fortunately, the chips don't go thru the primer, so it's just a matter of reapplying the touchup and clear coat. Thing is, I don't know if clear coat was even used to begin with. Is acetone safe to use to remove the old touch up paint along with the clear coat, or should I use the acrylic tool on the end of the paint pen? I don't want to wet sand, compound and polish until I'm absolutely sure I know what I'm doing.
You'll be able to remove whatever the bodyshop applied with acetone, this is almost for certain. The only way it would not work is if they somehow used a catalyzed clear when they did the touchup, but that's doubtful. From that point, you can just do the touchup repair as if starting from fresh.
