CASIO CT-X3000: "Casa de Mambo" by Stewart J Wallace
"Casa de Mambo" is a bright and upbeat solo for Electronic Keyboard by Stewart J Wallace.
On the Casio CT-X3000 and I've just used the mambo preset rhythm (099) and only VAR1 and FILL1 throughout the arrangement. To add some variety the brass parts have been recorded into 2 pads and halfway through there is also a string pad in the left hand. The pads are on a continuous loop so you have to stop them independently from the rhythm.
The main tone is an organ patch I created, and I've also doubled it on the repeat one octave below to create the fuller sound of lower drawer bars. I used two registrations - one with just a single upper layer and the other adds the strings and extra organ. - so it's easier to switch settings. There's also a volume pedal to control the final crescendo.
I hope you like the piece. The sheet music is available from:

Casio CT-X3000: "Wise Words" by Stewart J Wallace

This is the complete piano/keyboard composition which I demonstrated in another video showing how to record and save a Standard MIDI File (SMF) and importing it into a PC. Once you have your SMF you can develop your ideas further on your PC, either in a sequencer or to generate a score ready for publication. If you like the piece then the sheet music is available to purchase from: sheetmusicdir...

Переглядів 4092 місяці тому
With the CT-X I can quickly capture my idea on the sequencer, save it as a Standard MIDI File (SMF), and then load it into my PC to edit and develop further. It takes about 3 seconds to power up the keyboard and then you've got sounds and a sequencer at your fingertips. That's much quicker than having to power up and load a PC - by the time that's ready your inspiration is long forgotten. In th...

The Casio CT-X3000 keyboard and others in the range have useful and usable organ tones, but most of them are designed for jazz, rock and pop. There are only a handful of classical tones that could be useful for accompanying hymns in church or similar settings. Fortunately, editing and tweaking the built-in tones is relatively straightforward and these can then be saved as user tones. Whilst you...

The Casio CT-X 3000 and 5000 keyboards allow you to create your own accompaniment rhythms (styles) - 50 user rhythms on the 3000 and 100 user rhythms. These can be saved onto a USB drive and then loaded into the 700 and 800 keyboards too as user rhythms (up to 10) - but can't be created or edited. In this video I'm just focusing on creating a set of drum rhythms with an intro, 4 variations, 4 f...

Thanks, I am a little confused I just want to know if we can import keyboard SMF files into pc software to edit notes, software names please, also can we create SMF files on software to export & play on keyboard. Please advice.
IF YOU WANT IT I CAN PAY YOU REGULAR 10NZD MTH WHICH MIGHT NOT SEEM MUCH BUT FOR 10 YEARS AS I WON'T TRADE UP AS I HAVE BOUGHT IT 4 LIFE
Any plans on doing a deep dive on the 1000v like your series on the ctx-3000?
Thanks for this drum programming group of videos. Very helpful as is the entire series.
Thanks for the feedback! By the way, to change the part group: 1. Short press (SP) the PART/MIXER button [red LED is on]. 2. Use -/+ buttons on the keyboard to select the part group (Keyboard, Rhythm, Song Sys, etc). 3. Short press (SP) the PART/MIXER button [red LED is off]. Now you can make VOL, PAN, REV, CHO, DLY, PART ON/OFF settings for the selected part group.
@@StewartWallaceSJWMusic Thank you. I finally found that in the manual.
Thanks for sharing your expérience about this keyboard. Your vidéos are not bord and easy to learn. Bravo
Thanks - glad you're finding the videos useful. 😎
Thank you very much, your tutorials are very useful. I want to know in 4/4 beat 2 bar rhythm, can I copy only 2nd bar into 4/4 beat 1st bar. Please confirm. I want to separate 2 bars.
Mmm🤔. Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to work in exactly the way you want. However, there is some freeware (with suggested donation) called ReStyle which allows you to do some moving and splitting of AC7 RHYTHM files that can't be done directly on the keyboard. Check out this UA-cam video from Chandler Holloway, who describes what the software can do - ua-cam.com/video/0HgqYbe31v4/v-deo.htmlsi=fFwMV4lGjc2x1-uz I don't think it's exactly what you're after, but it does give some extra functions that might help you. 😎
Thanks Restyle helping me to copy layers into intro fillers & end. But I couldn't find separate or extend the rhythm bars which I am looking.@@StewartWallaceSJWMusic
This was very useful. Thanks for doing all of these. You've made it a lot for enjoyable to use the ct-x3000.
thanks for your help on the Casio X3000. I just bought it for my daughter.
Great explanation. I was using it incorrectly and didn't understand what was happening until watching the video. Thank you!
Great video. I had a cz101 back in the day but unfortunately the batteries leaked and ruined it. This brought back a lot of memories of that keyboard. You've done more to sell me on the more modern casio keyboards than anything casio has done. They should support you.
One thing that is confusing to me is that some sources call middle c, c3 and others insist it is c4. Very much enjoyed this and all your other videos.
Thought I would mention that my new ct-x3000 came with firmware 1.09 It is not listed on the casio firmware page as the last one there is 1.08. Not sure what the changes are.
Any recommendations for similar software for IOS?
Very nice!
This entire series is excellent and as a new owner very helpful. I hope you will continue to offer videos on the ct-x 3000!
Hello Wallace, thank you soo much for all your videos on the ctx3000, they are very helpful. God bless you! I wanted to know how you record your sound from your keyboard to your camera and and it sounds very clear. And also your voice …what equipments do I need? And how do I bring them together? A written instruction or a video will be really helpful, I’ve bring trying to figure this out.
Very enjoyable performance. Was looking at the 1000v but your videos convinced me to go with the ct-x3000. Looks more appropriate for what I want to do and the 5 pin midi is a plus. The voice synthesis of the 1000v looks fun but of limited use. Thanks for your videos!
Thanks for your comments and feedback. But just a heads up...the CT-X doesn't have 5-PIN MIDI. Like most cheap keyboards and even the expensive ones, most only have USB-MIDI, which is fine if you're just connecting to a PC, but useless if you want to directly connect keyboards together - that's what you can do with 5-PIN MIDI. USB-MIDI requires either a PC or MIDI HOST box, which I feature in some other videos (ua-cam.com/video/ADx5OkMxoxg/v-deo.htmlsi=GRWo8YxcBEeAaKKl) or you can use an Android app (ua-cam.com/video/_AnmbkS4veU/v-deo.htmlsi=EwbBUw6XSm_zhs1E). By the way, the CTS1000V has a USB-MICRO socket which is another bit of a pain, because most other keyboards have USB Type A sockets (commonly found on printers). I hope that helps in making your decision. Thanks again for all your comments. 😎
@@StewartWallaceSJWMusic Thanks, I realized that soon after commenting. Was confusing it with another keyboard I was looking at. Kind of a bummer but not a deal breaker. I do have a host box. Thanks
This was awesome!
Thank you for continuing to support the ct-x3000. I have just received mine and your videos are extremely helpful.
That's great! It might take a bit of time to get familiar with all the features of the keyboard, but keep going - it's worth it in the end. All gear has pros and cons, so don't be put off if it takes a little while. Other keyboards might do this or that better (or worse) than the CT-X, but at the end of the day as long you are making music that's the main thing. 😎
I'm late to the x-3000 but just ordered mine and really looking forward to your video series. Thanks for doing them.
hi just subscribed..i'm on the brink of buying a keyboard but still hanging between casio ctx3000 and korg ek50..enjoying the videos
The Korg sounds good in online videos, and the professional arrangers are very good - but expensive. I can't say which is better, but if I compare the CTX with my (expensive) Yamaha PSR-SX900 then for instant gratification and working out ideas quickly the CTX wins. But for more in-depth playing the PSR is much more professional in both sound and features. Hope that helps! 😎
Good morning Stewart , Can I ask if we record a style and lead voice say strings , Can the CTX 3000/5000 split out the instruments into separate channels for a daw ie those being used in the style ie drum, bass and style voices and then right hand lead voices etc etc ?
Yes, as a MIDI file. You can then import that into the DAW sequencer and then edit it and change instruments. I did it in a recent video showing how to record the MIDI file and then import it to create music score - but the basic process would be the same. Check it out here - ua-cam.com/video/eDNGHVB7p1o/v-deo.htmlsi=lqCJ4zSFjJJz5rX4 Of course, if you're intending to maintain the sounds from the Casio then that's a different technique, starting with recording the audio (into a DAW or elsewhere). Then once you've got an audio recording, you can use AI to separate the audio into different tracks. There are various apps but I've messed around with Moises and it's pretty good - www.moises.ai Hope that helps you out. All the best. 😎
Thanks. very nicely explained, but still so confusing, could you please do one more video for song editing in more detail.
I''ll try to go a little deeper in future videos. The Casio sequencer is OK but for more flexibility then an app on a device (laptop/tablet/phone) is usually give you more in-depth editing and flexibility. 😎
Nicee
Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated. 😎
@@StewartWallaceSJWMusic Please How to connect mic
@@TKSTurbanKingStar Unfortunately, the CTX-3000 doesn't have a mic input, but the CTX-5000 does. However, if you want to mix the sound of the CTX-3000 keyboard with the mic then the best option is probably just to use a separate mixer and plug both the mic and the keyboard into that. If you try to feed the mixer output back through the Casio then there is a small delay in processing the incoming sound, so that's not ideal - better to feed the mixer output (i.e. your mic and keyboard mix) into a separate PA/combo speaker. Hope that helps. 😎
@@StewartWallaceSJWMusic Thank you Very Much. For Very good Info or Help
Very Nice
Thanks so much for the feedback - much appreciated. 😎
Can you change registration memory number with an auto fill in? From 1 to 2 with a fill in. Or you really have to press fill in before pressing the reg memory?
No - it doesn't have AUTOFILL like on Yamaha keyboards. You can switch pattern variations between registrations, but you'll still need to press the fill button if you need a fill between the patterns. Alternatively you could program a pattern that is like a fill but is actually a variation, though I don't really see the point and you would be losing the number of variations! Another possibility for variety is to create some fill-like patterns as phrases that you can insert over the top of a variation.
Do we have a way to adjust the volume of upper 2 sound/layer
Yes, it's through the PART/MIXER button. Long press (LP) the button to get into the MIXER and make sure you're in the keyboard part section - it should say MIXER KEYBOARD in small lettering on the bottom line of the display. Use the UP (5) & DOWN (2) arrows on the keypad to scroll through the various parameters - PART, VOLUME, PAN, REV SEND, CHO SEND, DLY SEND. The LEFT (1) & RIGHT (3) arrows on the keypad will select the parts. U2 is simply part 2 and on the display you should now see a small number 2 in a box flashing. Now just select the parameter (VOLUME) and change the value using the wheel or -/+ buttons, or press NUM (0) on the keypad and then type a 3-digit value. If you save a registration then each one can have different settings, so that's very useful. I hope that helps!
One of the few shorts on these! I think I'm going to need a host box if I get a behringer jt-4000 micro. What does the host box use as a power source?
I use a USB phone charger and the socket type on the device is USB MINI. I have found the KENTON to be reliable but it is expensive. The DOREMIDI is cheaper but might not be so reliable - I haven't used one. Alternatively, you could use an Android device with MIDI HUB or MIDI CONNECTOR app. I made a video connecting two CASIO keyboards here - ua-cam.com/video/ADx5OkMxoxg/v-deo.htmlsi=TMYkwr1HK74s5iug
I think Behringer are adding MIDI to the JT-4000, so maybe wait. They are also supposed to be working on a USB HOST. 😎
@@StewartWallaceSJWMusic thank you for responding! I didn't know there were host apps. I will probably wait for the new jt-4000. Thank you for letting me know they're adding midi
@@bellywitchproductions2183 No problem. Apparently the MIDI version from Behringer is not definite and they don't always follow through on promises. The VS synth does have 5 pin midi so you never know they might get it together eventually.
@@StewartWallaceSJWMusic it would be cool. My goal is to have a decent synth I can use with my midi keyboard without the need of a computer
Great tutorial..... thank you sir. Please, I'm having problem with my function button... nowadays when I Long Press the function button to adjust my sustain volume, they said DATA FULL.. please what should I do????
can I see the connection from you midi to phone?
can I see the connection from your midi to phone?
The MIDI output connection from the Arturia keyboard is USB MICRO - it's the slightly curved one with one straight edge. The orange cable in the video is plugged into the Arturia keyboard in that socket, and then the other end is the larger USB Type A plug, but that goes straight into an adapter to convert it into USB Type C (the black rectangle in the video) which goes into the Samsung Tablet. The Samsung provides power to the keyboard. Overall, it's a neat, small setup, with a good piano sound - it means I can easily fit it in a backpack and I don't need to carry a larger keyboard. I hope that helps. 😎
Incredible diversity in using the registration settings. Your organ tone combinations are intriguing, wonderful, and realistic sounds.
Where is the volume sitting on split
It's in the MIXER section. Several others have asked the same question, so it might be you've already solved it (see other comments below). If not, simply long press (LP) MIXER button. Then take a look at the bottom of the display. Does it say "MIXER KEYBOARD"? - if it does then you're in the correct place. If it doesn't, then you need to change the MIXER PART - so short press (SP) PART button and the red LED light will come on. Now use the -/+ buttons to change it to "1-9 KEYBOARD". SP PART button to turn of the red LED light. Now you should be back in MIXER mode, and here you can change various parameters, including volume. Use the up/down arrows (2 & 5 on the keypad) until you get to volume. Then you can adjust the value from 0-127. The first column refers to upper 1 (U1) - i.e. the main tone on the keyboard. The second column refers to upper 2 (U2), which will give you a layered tone. Use the left/right arrows (1 & 3 on the keypad) to select each column. The third column adjusts lower 1 (L1), so that's your split tone. The fourth column adjusts lower 2 (L2), which is a layered tone on your split. I hope that makes sense and will help. All the best. 😎
Thank you so much! The manual is so thick and confusing and this realy opened the posibilities to make tracks. My friend just cannot stop discovering all the options now! While he was frustrated before watching this video.
That's super cool. I'm glad the videos are helping to get deeper into the keyboard. It would be easy to just dismiss it and buy something new and shiny, but there's still a lot of potential for a relatively small cost. I have a PSR-SX900 as well and that has a lot of extra features, but for immediate access I usually go straight to the CT-X3000.
Thank you ery much, i own my ctx 5000 for 2 years now and now i try it out, works also for the bass very well... To see the steps is much more easy the from doing by reading the Booklet, Greetings from Germany
Vielen Dank. Ja. Die Anleitung ist nicht ganz verständlich. 😎
You certainly have captured the Cuban atmosphere. Is your X3000 a replacement? I believe I read that you returned the first keyboard?
Thanks! No this is the one and only CT-X I've bought. I've got a Casiotone CTS1000V, which I use occasionally - a better keyboard, but not as much editing capability and the voice synthesis is a bit gimmicky and fiddly to use. 😎
Thanks Stewart....the reason being I was thinking of getting one -inspired by you and the tutorials
Very informative demo, Stewart. I have one phrase I created in my CT-X that is similar to a Tangerine Dream Rubycon style sequence pattern. Very cool effect.
If only TD had a CT-X back in the day! I saw them live in London and the stage was filled with gear. There must have been technical issues from time to time, and yet somehow they knew the gear so well the music flowed seamlessly.
@StewartWallaceSJWMusic Thanks for your reply to my comment, Stewart! That's great! You actually saw Tangerine Dream live. I did have an opportunity to see TD back in 1989 (Sarasota FL), but I had car trouble and couldn't make it. I believe Paul Hasslinger was with them at that time.
Great info' and impressive sound quality as in all your videos Stewart. Is the X3000 connected to monitors/speakers?
It's usually just the direct sound from the keyboard, sometimes with a slight amount of compression but that's all. I find the live keyboard sound is pretty full and I expect the CTX-5000 is even better with a larger speaker setup though I've never tried it. 😎
I dig the string bass with portamento @10.15- Very realistic
Sir I am Indian .Can you make this vidio in Hindi. Please replay
Hi Rupnath, thank you for your message. India is such a warm and welcoming place, and I miss visiting friends in the south. Your question to make videos in Hindi would challenge me though! I have a little bit of German, French and Spanish, and my daughter speaks Arabic and Farsi, but Hindi is on another level for my skills. But if you want to write questions and comments in Hindi I will endeavour to reply and help you using Google translate and other online sources. All the best.
It would be good if the CT series enabled you to select/edit the compass or the individual range of layered tones...so in effect you could split the tones individually across the keyboard in like zones thereby moving to a different part of the keyboard (zone) for a different tone whilst playing without necessitating registration changes. I believe you can do this on the more expensive keyboards. Often called hidden splits of tones
I agree 100%. Layers and splits are often frustrating and difficult to organise directly on most keyboards. Whilst I try to avoid using a PC, some software can achieve the required result. I've been looking at Camelot software from Audio Modeling and it can create complex layers, key ranges and velocity splits. MIDI HUB by Blokas is a standalone box that could also do similar things, but requires some setting up in software first. In the end, I guess we just have to live with it, and try to find our own workaround.
Excellent work, I think Casio is better every day and I am glad that someone achieves good performances with these Models. Greetings;~{}
