Funny that no-real-sounde videos get more views. I like your voice, the sound of scissors cutting, the sewing machine, etc. Cute top i have to try making patchwork fabric. Thanks Sherry.
Thanks❤
What a fun idea- watching again months later! You can use a Dremel or sandpaper to create worn spots.
That is a great idea! Thanks!
Watching again - i knew you had a video with adding a hood and i found it 😊. I want to do this. Thanks Sherry.
This is such an easy way to patchwork finished edges. I make it even easier by folding over more. Somehow those narrow seams escape from my sewing machine foot. I'd rather fold a wider seam under (and waste a little fabric) than keep making mistakes. Thanks Sherry.
You have to do what works for you. I'm glad you are trying it. I don't think I'd have near the success if my sewing table wasn't flat.
Also - to add jeans pockets i don't cut off the extra fabric around them, i sew that down. So I'm not trying to sew through the very thick, hard edges of the pocket.
For me it depends on how the pockets look. I don't want to overwhelm the garment so I will do both kinds depending on the look I'm going for.
Watching again months later as i am getting closer to actually making a trip or a dress. When I first watched your patchwork videos I thought it would be easy but it's not. You have great skills. Now after watching many, adding patches and embroidery to a few flannel shirts and making a dozen tote bags, I feel like I can try it. Thank you Sherry.
You are so welcome! You can do it!
14:56 i was waiting for this moment to see how to make the bottom wider. Very cool
Watching again eight months later and learning more!
One of the selfish reasons I did the channel was to refer back to them if I don't make them in awhile....lol....so i understand
Those darts are brilliant! Just enough to give a little shape.
Can you share how you sewed the small pieces of fabric and lace onto the front and back of shorts? Did you just stitch around them with your sewing machine? Did I miss that part in the video?
I always just make sure the lace is facing the right way. Lace has a right side and wrong side just like fabric and then you can decide if you want it to be under or on top of the denim and then I just used a straight stitch and sewed it on. Hope that helps.
I've been throwing away my clothes for years. I should have kept them to make these pretty Boho things.😣
I did the same thing for years as well. My Mom only ever sewed with new fabric so it never even crossed my mind.
@@SherryJonesDesigns 😄 now we catching up lost time
I like very much Boho Style. It's fun and colors are nice. Thanks for your tutorials :)
I'm glad you like it and I try and teach beginner friendly things. It helps a lot if you have a big flat sewing area around your machine though.
@@SherryJonesDesigns yes, my first problem is I must dare creativity, dare colors matching, find many different way. But with time, I will dare ☺
Hi from France 🥰 I like very much your creation. I wonder if we need to add a second layer under, it's the same process ?
Yes, you could add a second layer and attach it in the same way.
@@SherryJonesDesigns thanks :) happy sewing.
You are such a beautiful soul! Can you tell me more about machine sewing your buttons?
Thank you so much. Yes, its best to drop the feed dogs...the thing that moves your fabric forward, set the machine stitch length to zero and then the zig zag to the width of the button hole. Then hand turn it over a couple of times to make sure it isn't hitting the button and sew slowly till you have it secure. I usually count to 10 stitches. Hope that helps.
I totally enjoyed this tutorial so cool you are a good painter and it’s nice to know ow that Apple Barrel paint is the best
Thank you and I'm so glad it blessed you. I was surprised myself.
Thank you for being the "UL Tester" for the paints. I'll think I'd stick with Apple Barrel too!
I was surprised but I have heard other youtubers say they like and use it. Also there is a brand the same company makes called Folk Art. I should try it. It might be even better. Its a tiny bit more but so far, I'm using the one I have cause I have lots....lol
Your video is so timely to me because I am just now wanting to learn free motion sewing. I'm smiling along with you at your first efforts here. So fun! I love it😊
I'm glad it blessed you and don't forget to check out the comment section. There were a lot of good ideas in there as well, like I didn't lower my feed dogs. It would have made it smoother and watch those fingers cause it would be easy to have a nasty accident.
Do what you know you can do for making your videos better cuz you are smart, resourceful, creative, and God has done an amazing work in you❤❤ Thank you for your videos! Many more years😊
Thank you so much!
You're wet palette ideas are genius ❣️👏👍. Thanks so much for sharing such a unique and beautiful project. Well done 👍
I'm so glad it blessed you! Thank you for letting me know :)
thank you soooo much!!! best wishes for your health from silke from nuremberg, germany
Hi an I hope all is well in Germany! Thank you so much for the lovely comment and for letting me know where you are from.
Hi Sherry, I am impressedwith your bird painting skills 🐦 I think I am going to try this, Hobby Lobby has sales on apple barrel, and I have seen bags of different colors at Goodwill too! This was fun.
Thank you! It is fun to do and I'm going to try and add some other elements like buttons, patches, etc. I noticed that a lot of people use the Folk art paint as well. I think it is made by the same company as apple barrel and is one grade better so I may also give it a try but I think Apple Barrel works nicely. I"m excited for you! I hope you have fun.
This was fun to watch you experiment! You give great details as you paint! Thank you for sharing :) I don't think your art skills are as bad as you think - I'm not even sure I could get cute birds like you do! LOL
Oh, thank you. I guess we are all our own worst critics.
Wow Sherry I've just been planning to grab some paint from my back room to paint some denim. I'm making grocery bags to give as Christmas gifts. I've decorated with hearts cut from bright tshirts, embroidery, stitched some eyelash yarn on... And now I'll be ready to paint! Thank you!
I'm so glad it blessed you! I've been meaning to compare the paints for a while now. Its amazing how time just slips away.
I think you should paint different birds and flowers on denim pockets and sell those in your etsy store. That way those of us who are less artistically talented could but them to embellish our us cycles with your art work?
That is a good idea. I've seen other upcyclers selling heart appliques and pockets so I could as well. Thank you for such a lovely idea.
This is a great idea! I think they would sell well!!!
Question why didn’t you mix some fabric medium into the fabric paint before using it?
I wanted to see how they did on their own. I was mostly curious how each one behaved as I tried to apply it as we all know dried paint likes to come out of nothing in the laundry....lol
@@SherryJonesDesigns yup before my hubby passed (he was an art teacher) he did a lot of paint on denim research and did denim jackets with angel and fairy wings on them that I sold at craft fairs. I am going to play with all of his paints a bit and if I don’t enjoy it will have stuff to add to my destash pile 😝
My biggest requirement was that the paint not be stiff and that it survived the wash
That is a great idea!
I would rather hand embroider, free style, on denim (than paint on denim). I can take my embroidery along with me to a waiting room (which I can't do with paints). Plus, it is easier to remove embroidery (than it is to remove paint).
Understandable. I am not sure its for me either. Though I will say this, I can imagine incorporating both elements into a single piece along with patches and buttons etc. I think it would be lovely and it was quite fun but maybe the 'do it at home' kind of fun.
Absolutely adorable!
It's very cute!
It would also look really short for summer!
That’s disappointing that UA-cam isn’t paying off for you. I’m in the process of starting a upcycle channel also. I hope things start doing much better for you
I wish you the best. For me the biggest reward is sharing something I love. I am sad that the monetary side is just not there. I noticed what UA-cam did to me and other beginning creators is to give one nice check and then keep you chasing the money....hoping it will happen again. They get lots of content that way at little to no cost to them and I honestly believe they are not being honest with the creators and keeping the lions share of money earned. I've seen big youtubers quitting or changing tactics like using the members function or selling stuff or promoting items to fill the gap.
Stunning love them❤❤❤❤
Raw edges will not fray if not 100% cotton. Poly cotton blend won’t fray. I make rag quilts all the time and I want lots of fraying. It looks like chenille when finished.
I agree that for the best fray in anything it must be cotton. One will only achieve light fraying with blends but in upcycled clothing that can be such a blessing because it allows for a frayed look without being too frayed or fragile and I've also learned that really open weave fabrics are not stable being used as raw edges. So much to learn. I'm learning stuff all the time. Thank you so much for sharing.
👍👍👏👏👏👏

Great class as usual. Thanks.
I don't upcycle clothing, I wear it out, but there are some very useful ideas and techniques to be learned from people who up cycle clothing.
The nice thing about upcycling is that you can buy used clothing and turn it into something amazing. So it isn't just about using your own used clothing but about resourcing and using used clothing, linens, etc. and thus recycling them into new life. If you are looking to save money and help the environment at the same tine, it is a great way to do both.
Oooo I love this design!
You give the best explanations!
Can't wait to make one! Thankyou ❤❤
