Canning Tomatoes WITHOUT a pressure cooker and No Water Bath - UPDATED | Useful Knowledge
I was hoping to see a BUD switch in between the two machines to automatically harvest and process a stalk after it grew 2 blocks high.
“U just have 2 get after it”. THATS WHAT SHE SAID/ THATS WHAT THEY ALL SAY! 😂
Ok well in doing that ,say the bulb crushed n broke soo how do I remove broken bulb ?? I've tried plyers, eyebrow pluckers, etc.help me
Make sure the switch is off. Take some needle nose pliers and take it out. You will need to push in and twist to the left to get them out.
A cheaper way to go may not be the cheapest method. Just because it is cheaper to refill yourself does not make the rate cheaper for you. Keeping a propane 20 # tank for an emergency may not be the best way to fill a tank for your heater. You may need 15# and not 20# in a larger tank.
Fabulous! Thanks for sharing
Thanks! I’m still enjoying it!
UPDATE!!! Classico has changed their jars! The older jars were 650ml and had a standard mouth lid. Those are the ones that are perfectly good for home canning. The NEW jars are only 600ml (SHRINKFLATION) and have a smaller lid like the small jars that have Alfredo sauce. 😡 They should have just kept the jars the same and increase the price a little bit instead of deception with a slightly smaller jar! 😡 If you still see the older jars, get those as the new ones are no good because standard lids won't fit.
One of the better things I have ever done is buying a 500 gallon tank for my home heating. I fill my 20 pound tanks from the big tank for a cost of about $6.
Great idea!!!!
Where did you get that T fitting?
I actually got those off Amazon. Local stores were out. That’s a 2” x 1 1/4”
Can I bigger jars? Will they still seal properly?
Hi. Yes, I don’t also make a 16oz pint size jars of jelly.
They make 1/8 Pipe nipples with pointed Orifice - smaller hole to drill and 1/8 Pipe Tap most of your Commercial Fish Cookers have them and you can also get the 1/4-20 threaded jets and make your own using 45 or 90 degree 1/8 fitting and thread to 1/4-20 thread inside.
We cook every year for several years but we cook ours 227 230 degrees at a hard boil right up till it gets close to done then just a steady light boil so not too scorch good big brown bubbles that raise up and burst very delicious we check sugar content in juice nothing under 12 percent up to 20
Thanks for sharing! What are you folks doing about the sugarcane aphids?
@useful.knowledge we didn't have any on ours this year afew last year and before nothing too pull sugar down too much a friend sprayed his couple years ago with tractor nozzle sprayer don't remember what spray name was but was for afeds
Im from north alabama too!
All you are doing is disturbing the fire ants so they move to another location. What a brilliant f&king idea to send them to the neighbors place!
3:45 I had read somewhere that a 20lb tank was a tank that could hold 20lb of propane and that was 80% of the fill capacity of the tank. That left 20% for the minimum space needed for propane expansion. That is the simple way to do it.
Just discovered your channel. My great grandma, her father, and his father before him made Sorghum Syrup in very rural Illinois. I believe this tradition started in the early mid 1800s before the family sold the farm sometime in the 20th century. I am definitely interested in learning how to do everything you demonstrated in the video. Do you have videos on how to set up everything you did safely outside ? I don’t think the wife would let me cook it inside the house!
Hi. Thanks for sharing. Checkout our Sugarcane syrup videos. It shows the basic setup. I moved from sorghum to sugarcane because of the aphids that are now destroying sorghum.
I dont trust I'll be getting a solid tank with an exchange no matter how good it looks. It's alot better in my opinion to buy a new tank so you know how its cared for and just refill it. I have 4 of the normal 20 pound tanks, 1 of the 30 pound, and 2 of the 40 pound that will be used for a backup generator and you pay the same to refill a 30 pound tank for what you would pay for a 20 pound exchange in my area which is crazy how much more you get. In my opinion I wouldnt go with anything more than a 40 pound if you are trying to refill and have to bring it to a place unless you have a way of getting the bigger tanks in and out of a car or truck because they get extremely heavy. I wanted to go with the 100 pound tanks but its just too much to refill at a refill station but some people use the smaller tanks to fill the bigger ones they keep stationary at home which seems like a pain in the ass.
Hi. Thanks for the comments. I agree anything over 40lbs is getting into “my back aches” territory. I have two 40s and really do not enjoy taking them in for refills.
@@useful.knowledge Ya they can be a pain in the ass. It's great to have twice the amount of a normal size tank but its just the weight that sucks. I can't imagine having to load up a 100 pound tank for a refill haha
Did it help with mpg?
Great question! I honestly do not have a comparison.
try following these steps but.. slice the peppers on a bias to make the slices as large as possible. Once they have spent some time in a jar, pour them out and dry them on a paper towel, dip them in your favorite frying batter and fry them up like onion rings. You can thank me later.
👀👀👀👀
1. Great that someone is taking time to bring peeps to the nature :D. 2. Great that peeps are getting exited to be there :D Remember to take out all the trash with you what you bring. Mother nature is Karma :)
Can i use a vaccum sealer device after doing this for extra precaution?
Hi. You’re not going to need it. When the jars cool, they seal.
how do you increase btus? more psi from regulator and larger flame holes? larger diameter orafice hole?
You could move the cuts closer and then up the pressure.
@ thanks for the info!
why do you have to drill out the orafice?
how can you increase btus?
This already rocks a lot of btu’s. I use it for my syrup. I would try closer cuts but it’s going to require more pressure and gas flow.
@ how would You increased gas flow? More psi from regulator and larger hole in orafice? Would Venturi need to be wider/more open?
Do you think I could do the same process with cranberry sauce?
Yes! I use this method for that. cranberries are acidic.
@useful.knowledge thank you!!
Can you reuse the the lid after you open the jar?
Hi. I would not for canning purposes but they are great when repurposed for things like dry storage, and catching lightning bugs.
What size pipe would you use for 10’ burner?
I think the 1 1/4 inch would work.
@ thank you. Do you think putting the slits 1” apart would be okay?
You’re probably going to need to be pushing more pressure with one inch cuts. 1.5 inch cuts seem to be about perfect on my long and short burners.
@@useful.knowledge Thank you sir
I refill my exchange tanks til they expire, then I exchange them.
Pay attention to the policy of the refill company. Some have a standard cost to fill a tank assuming you're bringing it empty. The place near me will refund when it turns out the tank isn't completely empty. I usually get 4 to 5 bucks back after paying the standard refill charge.
What is the brand of the regulator? Thank you so much
Hi. I’m using Bayou Classic brand regulator
Are these perennial grasses? And will they reseed themselves?
In theory they could but we usually bushog the plots in the spring. Birds would most likely eat all the seed before we plant in the fall.
thank you, I am beginning camping at my local campground and I want the simplest guide. I wanted nothing fancy, and everything he used could be used at home! No money wasted.
Thanks !!
Hey there! Can I make pickled green beans this same way? Appreciate your videos!
Hi. Sorry for the late reply. I think green beans would be awesome with this recipe. I’m going to make some next summer!
@@useful.knowledge I can't wait to see that one! I really enjoy watching you do your "things".
So deer food plots are for their food and refuge during winter and hunting seasons?
Hi. Food plots are great for deer especially if acorns are scarce like they are this year. They will help hold deer on your property when food sources diminish.
👍
Thanks so much 👍😊
I made this jelly and it was a hit! Some friends said they enjoyed the tartness.
Awesome! Thanks for letting us know.
Same price in los Angeles refill or exchange
Hi there how many kilos of tomatoes do you need for 12 jars also what size are your jars oh and how long do these last for? Thanks 😊
Hi. I’m thinking 5-7 kilos. They last for at least 12-18 months in the pantry once sealed.
I would like to have a machine like yours. Where are they sold?
Duh
Dont hate me for being a deviant and a rebel. I have followed your other jam recipies and jarred them using the oven method and they all have turned out excellent. I made this but I never can resist putting my own twist on things. I quadrupled the recipie, used 1.5 cups sugar per 12 oz of cranberries, juiced 4 small oranges (honestly, they were so small I thought they were mandarins), and added water to the juice to make 4 cups liquid total. Added the zest from the oranges and finally, when I added the cranberries i tossed in a cinnamon stick. Yield: 5 pints and 2 and 1/2 jelly jars. The ping is music to my ears! It turned out so good with a hint of cinnamon and orange to make such a festive flavor for turkey day! I may just crack the half jar and chow down on it straight from the jar for a preview of what to come.
That sounds so awesome!!!!! I’ve got to make it next week!
@useful.knowledge If you use the cinnamon, I suggest, now that I tasted it to cut it back a bit, if you don't like cinnamon to become a dominant flavor. For my quadruple batch, 1/2 stuck may be plenty. But it did make it more in line with those spices we like in our sweets during the holidays.
@reibersue4845 Well when I read your comment this morning, my tongue was as slapping me around wanting to me to make your recipe!
Thank you for the staying warm at night tip!!
Have fun camping!!
I'm in Birmingham. Can you recommend a camp spot that I can set up next to my vehicle? I have a van that has a bed in it but might want to set up a tent too.
Absolutely!! Tannehill Historical State Park is awesome. They can get busy but the primitive area is just behind the main campground. You can also use the bath house. It’s 20 minutes from Birmingham down 20/59.
I have a question for you I made Roma tomatoe sauce in my crock pot all day . Then I waterbathed it for 45minutes. Would this be safe to eat . . I have been told that it’s no good and not safe . What do you think ?
Hi. What were your ingredients for the tomato sauce?
Another downfall on exchange, you give them your nice tank and you're given back a total pos. (Walmart exchange)
That is definitely a concern!
Turned out great and taste good. Thank you.
Awesome! Good to hear!
Propane @70F weighs 4.11lbs/gallon. So you are getting a little less than a gallon extra.
Sounds like that, during the summer, we need to put them in the garage fridge overnight and carry them early the next morning to get them filled. I could definitely get one in my fridge! Worth a try.
Temperature of the bottle and the propane is an important variable. If you refill your tank on a hot summer day you will get less propane in the tank than if you refilled it on a cold winter day when the tank was chilled.
Awesome! During the summer, I will put my tank in my garage fridge overnight before I take it for refill. Good thinking!
Get to the point.
Well go watch a short and then miss a step and mess up all of the work you’ve just done. Up to you.
I made a burner from your instructions but have all orange flames still. 48” pipe 1” diameter, 14” throat… tee is 2” reduced to the 1” pipe. I can’t figure it out for my pizza oven!😢
How much pressure are you running? Sounds like it needs more pressure and more air flow.
When I use the orifice that wasn’t drilled out, I got a blue flame, but couldn’t get a variation in flame strength. Ie: high low. Just low… but blue. The drilled orifice (5/64) gets me great heat and height, but orange. I’m baffled.
Standard 20lb propane tank w regulator that doesn’t adjust
Ok. Since you have the non-adjustable regulator, you are probably not getting enough gas into the pipe. I think if you get a hose with an adjustable regulator, that should work for you
