You're.lucky that you picked a good day to go out and of course now the sun sets that much earlier. That certainly was an impressive set of Iowa Northern power at first I almost thought it was Overkill but then you turned the camera to the left and it was covered Hoppers as far as the eye could see. I really question if I've ever seen one of their trains that long. Near the end of that train amongst the old cars there appeared to be a former Louisiana Midland LOAM car with the emblem still visible on all that rust. Then the CN rolls out a big train and the old Rio Grande car now is KLRX Koch Leasing with ties to the Georgia-Pacific Corp. Most of their cars are bulkhead flats or Center beams and even boxcars and tank cars but they do have some of these older covered hoppers. That was some beautiful late autumn color along the placid river which has receded even further. Near the end of the train that single Gondola may have had a batch of tie plates while the two empty gondolas will be picking up junk ties as one was still marked B&LE. The badly faded covered Hopper is actually over 40 years old and is Southern Ry which has faded badly and very few are really left in Revenue Service but there are a number still used as idlers on ethanol trains. The Apparently taking over for our green car were 2 big wood chip sized cars marked MWCX Midwest Railcar Leasing. About 3 years ago they got one group and apparently went back for even more and they were specifically built for cottonseed oil service and they do have nice clean tarps. They have cars of lesser quality carrying garbage and scrap metals. The Farm Bureau Report mentioned another large sale of corn including future crops of 2026 to Mexico

Storing corn for over a year is another example of a supply chain that incurs additional costs , while the farmer doesn't get paid ( and pays for extended storage ). Brazil, Russia are relatively newer exporters of corn to China , so the US dollar and the US farmer are suppliers of last resort.

hat was a lot of power on the Iowa Northern Railroad train that was pulling into the Canadian National's Waterloo, Iowa yard. The Canadian National's train L571 of 26 October 2024 was a decent size train with a nice variety of freight cars in its consist. That former Dener, Rio Grande & Western Railroad covered grain hopper car is a car that does not show up on a train very often these days. I used the magnifier app on my cell phone to try to read the lettering on the light-colored covered grain hopper car that came into view at 16:14 but the lettering was too faded to read even with the aid of the cell phone app. I am thinking that the car was from the series of covered grain hopper cars from the late 1970s the had the names of grain elevator companies in the plain's states. (Posted on 3 November 2024 at 1903 CST.)

Certainly some unique items in today's tape. Two more sections to go on the bridge and they have that look like they came in from Des Moines or Omaha like we've seen shipped before on flat cars. From the ground you would have never seen the disking pattern and I've seen some items on the agricultural reports where they will skip planting part of a field and also perhaps change the drainage. Another one is to plant corn one or two years leave a dormant a year and then do soybeans perhaps two years. Still quite a bit of experimentation regarding crops and land conservation. The odds of catching someone laying tile would be pretty rare so special thanks on that one. Seeing as how it's now plastic piping a trivia item is that the C&NW actually carried quite a bit of actual drainage tile from Southern Iowa to markets in the Midwest especially What Cheer IA. What if the farmer was trying to spell Hi Red's Iowa Train Videos???

I've only seen black tile. Takes alot of power to pull that thru the ground. Next farmer is working wet spots from last spring

Red, good vid - thanks. I think that bridge being replaced was from about 1918. Several old spans of double plate girders. Tiling has sure changed from the old days. (Janesville Tap ?.... this sounds ominous...)
