My name is Mora and I’m taking my life and my two dogs to Mexico.
My 2 dogs and I drove down to Mexico from Oregon at the end of March 2024. After many years of being a nurse, I needed to stop and make a radical change.
Since then we've explored many parts of Mexico, from the playa to the mountains, finding treasures along the way, and getting to know the culture, language and traditions of this great country. Ultimately, I'm looking for a pueblo to settle in permanently, and for these last months I've had the pleasure of discovering many lovely towns and cities along the way.
In my videos I discuss some of the places we've explored, the pros and cons of moving to Mexico, the cost of living in Mexico, and much more!
If you like my videos please consider supporting! Your contribution would be greatly appreciated!

My First Time in Tlaquepaque and a New House!
The State of Morelia is one very, very amazing state in Mexico. It would be a great place to retire -- but fluent Spanish would be needed.
It's gotten very expensive. And the new government is very scary now be careful things are changing in Mexico
I just love your videos, Mora! I learn more things about Mexican history that I didn't know thanks to your research. The next time you come upon a funeral procession, I invite you not to worry about disturbing the participants as they pass. On the contrary, feel free to stand on the side and watch them as they walk past. You will be "accompanying them" with respect -- they will not be offended by your presence. In fact, they will feel honored that you took the time to stop and "be" with them in that solemn moment. I am so proud of you for fending off those dogs! You assured the safety of the Purépecha woman. What a valiant woman you are! ¡Qué mujer tan valiente eres! 🙂It is very, very admirable that you are "comfortable in your own skin" and that you are enjoying Mexico on your own ... in the company of your sweet dogs. A big hug from Jody here in Querétaro where my husband Jorge, our handsome, happy Golden Retriever mix Buddy, and I ("Pepe") are living quite contentedly. Much love to you, my friend. P.S. I have a UA-cam channel (Joseph Quillian) where I upload videos so they won't take up room in my cell phone. I put videos on there purely for enjoyment. I have lots of videos of our adventures in Querétaro. 🙂
Sweet video. thanks
During the dia de los muertos the cemmentaries in Michoacan are absolutely beautiful. I recommend you go back on November 2. 👍
Excellent episode! A lot of excitement
Holding a camera while driving in the USA is a big no no.... holding a camera while driving in a narrow road in Mexico is a bigger NO NO NO, seriously no please
This was another great video, Mora! I felt like I was in Morelos in a town (Pueblo mágico) in the mountains called Tepoztlán. It looks so much like Tzintzuntzan, which I had never seen before. The church with the large yard is so similar to the main church of Tepoztlán as well. There’s a market in the center of the Pueblo that has some of the best food around! It seems like it must be time for the cemetery clean up for Day of the Dead . Hasta luego!
Nice video thanks..
You are a real downer
Beautiful video Mora❣️ Thank you for sharing!!!
Thanks for this video. I remember the mercado , the church and the temple. It was a great afternoon walking through town.
Here is scoop on the migration of the monarchs that's just about to start in earnest (after the Día de los Muertos. "The monarch butterfly migration in Mexico begins around Day of the Dead in early November and lasts until mid March. But the monarch butterfly sanctuaries officially open to the public once they have arrived and settled in larger numbers, around the third week of November. Tip: It’s best to visit the butterfly sanctuaries in Mexico during the week versus the weekend. You will be rewarded with fewer people and no lines. From my experience, you’ll also be allowed to stay and observe the butterflies for a longer period of time." PS - In my experience, you can see thousands while hiking or driving in the area. They come in big numbers.
Thank you, enjoyed your video!
Hola Mora! Well, we arrived in Morelia last week after a two-week drive from Nova Scotia. Everything has worked out magically. We love our little AirBnB and our adorable hostess has agreed to rent it to us (off AirBnB) for six months or longer. We will come to Patzcuaro and Tzintzunzan after the holidays and hopefully can arrange to meet for a coffee. Joelle and I loved this video, it is so inviting, and you do such an excellent job of editing, with just the right music...Thank you again for sharing your magical day...
I'm so glad you had a good trip and like your new house! Let me know what you're doing in November :)
Another lovely video Mora! Thank you
So happy to see the sites with ❤ can't be wait to get there in person. Thanks
My pleasure. Gracias!
Loving this channel.
Hi Mora, wonderful video but I'm a bit confused. You said you don't recommend people come there right now because of safety reasons, yet you are out and about exploring and enjoying the area. Is it safe or not?
Well, this is a very good question. I feel safe. The people around me seem to feel the same way and are enjoying the area. At the same time there was a violent altercation a few weeks ago that was scary, just 30 mins away. And the US State department says don't come here. To tell you the truth I have very mixed feelings about it. I'm staying and loving the area. I'm even thinking on staying long term. But the facts are there have been some problems in pueblos not too far away. But many places in the world could say that. Ultimately it's up to every individual. Sorry to sound contradictory. It's not a black and white situation.
Hi MM, The orange/yellow flowers you saw are the famous cempasúchil (“sim-pah-sue-chill”😎) aka Mexican marigold. (I suspect there’s a purépecha word for them, too.) They play an important role in the Day of the Dead ceremonies all over Mexico, so you may see them everywhere during this time. They are also used to produce a dye, which, strangely, is fed to chickens to deepen the color of the yolks in eggs, and to shrimp to make them look more “shrimpy”. SMH. Notably, the plants are actually native to the area you’re in. It’s fascinating to consider how much incredible detail and meaning can be found on a day trip like this, in a flower, or an item on a menu, or in the life of the person being laid to rest. Thanks for the video; I’m always glad to see them when they appear on UA-cam.
Thanks so much for your comment! I did not know that about the dye. I mistakenly said carnation in the video but yes it's cempasuchil. I went to see the flower farms, it was so beautiful!
@@MoraMargaret Flower farms sounds like a really interesting tour. I am envious of the weather you are enjoying. Here in Texas it’s been over 90F seemingly forever. Here we are at the end of October and still no cool weather. Definitely looks like a nice place to visit.
Tzintzuntzan looks lovely. That home for rent looked lovely. Perhaps it will be available when we make our way there next year 🤞Thanks so much for your videos 🤗
Wow - beautiful, charming, historically rich. Looks very liveable. So good how you could help the woman with deterring the dogs. Right time, right place, right shirt.
The local chamber should hire you! You're doing a great job introducing us to the region. Thanks.
Gracias!
Thank you? You gonna stay by the dua de muertos a lot of people come from all over the world to celebrate dia de muertos take care of yourself and your 2 dogs 🐕
Gracias! Yes, staying for Dia de Los Muertos for sure.
6:45 I laughed so hard. Thank you for these awesome videos. It makes me want to retire now !
Do it if you can! Thanks for your comment ;)
Haha that made me laugh too
Great video. Happily subbed.
Thanks! I love the name of this village! Thanks for sharing this lovely footage.
I'm glad you liked. Tzintzuntzan means place of the hummingbirds in Purepecha.
@@MoraMargaret Supremely cool! You have another treat in store. From December to February, monarch butterflies migrate to the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO Heritage Site) in eastern Michoacan and stretching into the State of Mexico. I remember driving from Mexico City to Michoacan years ago around that time. We had to slow down to 5-10 mph so the butterflies wouldn't be wounded. There were literally millions of them all around. Another wow of nature!
Wow! I know! I have to stay here till then for this reason!
Mora, That band is so loud. It sounds as if they're trying to wake the dead! 😅
Oh - so pretty! The funeral looked joyful. A true celebration of life. Great video.
Thanks for watching, it was a very fun day!
Thank you SO much for yet another beautiful video!
Muchas gracias!

Looks like you got an amazing airbnb unit Mora.
Found this one on a Facebook group post, but yes, it's amazing!
I'm looking for a good, inexpensive AirBnB in Guanajuato in mid-November. I appreciate any referral info. Thanks! Cindie
How do you avoid wanting ti adopt every perro y gato along you way??!
It's hard. I have to put up a mental block.
Awful jobs are awful. You said it.

Mora, thank you for Al of the security information. I was in Sonora two years ago, and while I never experienced any problems, I did sense some tension around and as a Spanish speaker I felt I understood my surroundings and maintained my situational awareness. That said, I’m glad you are safe, have shared this experience and information, but I’m sorry that you have to go through this, you obviously don’t deserve it. Please remain vigilant and your joy, undeterred. Living in Mexico has been off of my radar since 2009 and experiencing a dramatically different Ciudad Juárez than I had experienced as a youngster living near the border back then. Nevertheless, in my travels Ive recently discovered a fun, beautiful and very safe Spanish speaking country I will be moving to, in three months time. Very excited about this! Cheers
Well you didn't say which one! I wish you the best and I hope you have as wonderful an experience as I am having!
This is such a beautifully zen video Mora!!! I'm now a senior -- and have decided to give myself a gift of as much travel as possible in Mexico during coming years. As happened to you, the very decision and intention brings me much joy and excitement! --Thanks!
That's fantastic! Mexico is a wonderful country to explore.
Have a look at some of the advises "Tangerine Travels" can offer you. It's of an American guy who drove into Mexico for several years with his girlfriend. But then they no longer got along and split. They also had to split their youtube channel and so. Anyway, he decided to change the video content more to financial advise and so. He stayed in Mexico and got married and she went back to the US. She did try to get a home in Mexico you cam watch that in her new channel "MaddieGold".
Michoacán?
I just really enjoyed this video. I’ve come back to it a couple times to get a better perspective. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate you coming back to it.
Your travel documentary left me with a smile. Thanks! Now I have to travel to Janitzio and get a pair of those beautiful huaraches I spied here on your travels as well as taking in the ranchera music. Thanks for sharing and taking pride in your production! Cheers!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I should get some of those huaraches too :)
Love your videos. Thank you and keep living that wonderful life
Thanks for watching! I'm so glad you enjoy it.
@@MoraMargaret please keep them coming.. i enjoy them!!!
Thank you
So glad you have had a good experience with my paisanos. I migrated legally to the US over 25 years ago, and I am counting the days to go back to my homeland.
I just passed through your area yesterday on my way to Queretaro from Guadalajara . (not my intention, Google Maps failed me again 🙄) This was possibly one of the most honest videos I've seen about Mexico. How do I know? I have lived here going three years. Alert is the constant state any Gringo should be in, especially in Expat areas where being pickpocketed, robbed, or scammed is common. Another good source for updates on FB is a group called On The Road In Mexico, it covers mostly travel, but also includes some advice on avoiding scams, and issues on border crossings.
Nice Places. You Have Picked The Most Expensive Places. You Should Try Oaxaca City.
I hope to get there eventually!!
Beautiful Places.and You Have Just Started. It Will Take You Years to Cover all of It.
What a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing…..
Did you find that smaller rural Mexican town that you were looking for? Sounds like a place I might be interested in some day.
I'm loving Michoacan at the moment but I'm thinking I can't resist moving on again for more discovery!
