I have a lot of experience with old cemeteries, and in my experience, a sink in a cemetery COULD indicate the body in the grave has been disinterred and moved, but in 95% or more cases, there was no grave vault, and the casket simply rotted or rusted away, and the grave caved in. It is very common, unless the sink is in a memorial garden, in which case most require a burial vault or a grave liner to help prevent sinking of the grave.

As someone who works with deed recordings, deed rock is so cool. While many deeds from that era have gone lost to time, the fact that this one is quite literally etched in stone and still viewable today is remarkable.

I find it interesting how the belief that the buried dead can sap a person's life-force is very, very old yet remained fresh in people's' minds until not that long ago. You can find similar stories to these dated all the way back to medieval Germany and surrounding regions, they even had their own vampire analogue "Nachzehrer".
