I have a feeling they did that on purpose so people would be mad. I can think of myself calling it that because it frustrated other people. The urge to troll isn’t a new thing 😂
Steel doesn't scratch glass until it gets to around 63 HRC. 120 years later, still only a relatively small handful of knife steels are capable or reaching that level of hardness. Well done, 1906 Jack The Scratcher.
“Sorry Mike I can’t come in for work, new 2 and a half hour long documentary just dropped about a thing I’ve never heard of before. Of course it’s from Dime Store Adventures, I wouldn’t be calling off work if it wasn’t.”

This is kinda like a guy who used to set fires around the town I live in and he would wait for the fire department to arrive, stand back in the shadows and.....well, I want keep this civilized, he would stand back in the shadows and....uh, er....pleasure himself. Several people saw this.....interaction and reported it to the police. They ignored it until a fireman saw the dude going at it himself. His nickname was "Jack-A-WHACK." True story.
This trend of calling every criminal "Jack the X" reminds me of the modern trend of calling every scandal "X-Gate" Perhaps in 100 years you can rank all of those lol
Hey Dime Store we met at the Minute Man national park the other day! Your videos always brighten my day and make me feel more adventurous in life. You got a great sense of humor and your topics always intrigue me! It was awesome to meet you in person and maybe we will run into each other again someday. :) Keep doing what you love brother! P.S I meant to ask you at the park if you wanted to take a photo together but I forgot when we started talking about Dinosaur Jr. lol Maybe another time if we meet again but that's if your up for it! Have a great one dude! - Jake
46:13 Jack the Garter Stealer - “who is making a collection of these interesting relics, or, if we may be pardoned the pun, legacies.” There is SO much gold within just these snippets of articles!!
Jack the Moth Killer is actually the subject of multiple ghost stories in the moth community. Most versions inclue Jack's trademark oil lamp and batlike wings, as well as the smell of napthalene being a telltale sign Jack is nearby.
As a New Englander that serves as the secretary and treasurer of a non profit that focuses on preserving historical cemeteries that have fallen into disrepair, your channel is right up my alley. It is a nice escape from all the gloom and doom in the world an on youtube. I was even pleased to see that you have covered my ancestral "quiet corner" of Connecticut.
You need to start a Dime Store Adventures podcast series. I don't think I could ever get tired of listening to you go into wild detail about the most interesting, forgotten little details of history
In a world filled with too many podcast I fully support this idea. He has a wonderful voice, excellent comedic timing & a thirst for unique history knowledge. I am comforted by the fact that long form content is as popular as it is, I think he’d do well.
I just can't express how remarkable your videos are. They are based on solid research efforts, well backed up by the historical documents _during_ the video, and they are so fucking fun. This is just exemplary history storytelling.
Your ability to just speak about extremely specific history topics for long periods of time, with no script, and never using filler words is a feat of human brain power. Love your videos!
my jaw DROPPED when you showed the soap carving. I was expecting just a little intricate carving in a block of soap but no mr. leoni had much more than polished stones up his sleeve. Glad I watched the whole video. Love your videos man you'd be great to have at a bonfire
@43:33 Jack the Woman Tripper is the kind of guy to bemoan that nice guys finish last because none of the women he tripped thanked him for helping them up!
Throughout the video, I found it more and more humorous the way criminals were getting dejected down to 1 star Jacks. Like imagine being called a one star Jack to your face, it's gotta hurt if you were going for atleast 2 or 3 stars of notoriety
I love these longer vids man. I can't imagine the amount of work you put into these. Easily my favorite content creator and I speak for all of us when I say we appreciate the time and effort given to all of your vids
I won't spoil it, but the last story is absolutely incredible! Thank you for doing what you doing sharing such interesting historical tidbits that most people would never hear about in their life!
you bet your bottom dime that I'm watching the entire two hours and 22 minutes and 22 seconds of this. love your videos and thanks for putting so much time and research into these your videos are super refreshing and inspire me!
Nock the knob jacker was way scarier but per your rules we shan't discuss him. Edit: great to see you back dude! Love the content, this is well worth the wait!
I didn’t expect so many Jacks to be from Kansas 😂 Writing an article about Jack-the-Nipper to comment on the arrival of the fall frost was too cute. True journalism!
Rural areas of the USA were still suffering the aftereffects of the Panic of 1873 and ensuing "Long Depression." So many newspaper editors would play up these stories hoping to get the attention of the national wire news services for republishing their articles for national exposure. Their reasoning is that there's "no such thing as bad publicity" and that somehow an out-of-town moneybags might have his curiosity piqued while reading their exploits to consider investing money into the local economy.
Nearly two and a half hours?? Gawdamn, gonna get nice and cozy with a tea for this one. ♡ thanks so much for the content, I always look forward to seeing one of your videos pop up :3
You are seriously the most underappreaciated youtuber in existence at this moment. I relish in the days in which your excellence will be appreciated to extent in which it deserves. I haven't even viewed a second of the video yet, but I know its going to be an absolute masterpiece by the Title, Thumbnail and Run Time of the video. I really do appreciate so much good sir, your channel single-handly envoked so bizarre almost devious fascination with New England and its folklore that I cannot get rid of. :)
I watch Boze here on youtube, she does true crime content and talks about how there was a time (somewhere between 70s-90s i think i don't remember) of ppl and media being obsessed with serial killers and giving them cool names and stuff. This is what that feels like, ppl and media obsessed with Jack the Ripper, so much that newspapers would see ppl doing crimes and naming them after him, even tho they weren't nearly as severe as the Ripper's was. And maybe some of these Jacks wanted the same attention and committed crimes solely because of it. I think the first Jack the Squeezer is my favorite: a random dude hugging ladies out of the blue and giving em cards saying they are gonna marry the love of their loves soon (which i think is a setup, i think that he had friends who had crushes on these ladies and this was his weird way of wingmanning) Also, I feel like Jack the Spitter is youre enemy, you will NEVER forget how many men just couldnt keep their spit to themselves.
Dude I could not be more impressed with your content. I've yet to be let down with any of your videos other than wishing the short ones were longer. The wait is well worth the result my friend 👌
i am literally sitting in the house on my own with no one around just watching this video by myself and still, when i saw that soap carving, i actually went "woah!" out loud. i mean... wow!
Wow, John Leone was talented. Thanks for the video, entertaining me whilst working. Just subscribed and will check out your other vids. Weird how the algorithm works, you just popped up here 🇦🇺❤✌🏼
This is a phenomenal video and is an absolutely wonderful treat. For more exposure, you'll find a LOT of luck changing up the thumbnail/title a little bit, because the algorithm LOVES that, and a certain title/thumbnail will usually catch and go crazy, especially for a phenomenal video like this. Love your videos man
I have no idea what led you down this rabbit hole, but I am glad you made this video! I really enjoyed it (I have to admit I'm only halfway done because I've been watching in 10 minute installments over the last few days lol )
"Linda clear my schedule and cancel any remaining meetings for the rest of the day"

At 21:10, in the influenza article, the reason they called it “Jack the Gripper” was because “grippe” was a term for influenza back then.
It's still how I would call it, but in French!
Good call, that's the connection i'd made.
Yes. "Grippe" is the French word for "flu".
@@dkhnovain Spanish too
@@dkhnova It's similar in Romanian.
Feel like they really missed a step not calling 'Jack the foot grabber' "Jack the Tripper" it's right there
You sir are a poet missed a step. Tripper. Gold.
I have to ask why not just use mistep? A humble peasant I know was asking

Mr roper suspected something was off about him as I recall
Well, 'tripping' and 'grabbing feet' aren't the same thing at all, so that's probably why.

what a sad life

really appreciate that you made this 22.22.22 long. This is what ethical true crime looks like
this reminds me of how every kinda scandal since watergate is given the -gate suffix, news journalism never changes 💀
Omg! Right every social media drama is tatoogate or, cakegate, and the list goes on on and on. It's so goofy 😂
This kinda made the whole thing make more sense to me, thanks
oh gosh that really ties everything together

BAHAHAH WTF
Just started the video but I'm going to be very disappointed if I don't hear "Jack The Rip-Off" at some point.
about to have a girls night gather round and watch this feature film

No judgement more damning than a dismissive "....that's a one-star Jack".
"he wasn't a real Jack" is even more daming

100% grippe in French. It's even more similar in Polish: grypa... I don't speak Spanish so 🤷♂
Almost 2 and a half video about Jack the Ripper bootlegs by my new favourite youtuber? HELL YEAH!!
This video must have cost a lot of dimes
