this is so confusing. how did you create the dataset ? I created a dataset, and tried to enable SMB share for windows but I get an error when created the share.

Here is what worked for me (Electric Eel 24.10 and nextcloud 30.0.2): Datasets need to be created "fresh". If you tried installing with an error message some stuff from nextcloud is stored in there compromising next installation try, so DELETE old datasets and Add new ones as described below. Add Datasets "nextcloud" and then subdataset "appdata" with Dataset Preset "Apps" to your pool - no changes needed. Then Add Dataset "pgdata" as subdataset of "nextcloud" the same way, BUT go to Edit Permissions -> Strip ACL and then go again to Edit Permissions (This time it shows Unix Permissions Editor) for "pgdata" and set User to "netdata" and Group to "Docker" (999:999) - dont forget to tick Apply User/Group below each entry and Apply permissions recursively. Read Write and Execute for User and Group also need to be ticked on right side - Then save. Dataset for User Data Storage also needs to be added to your pool - Here Dataset Preset "Generic" works and then can be used. I have Datasets "nextcloud", "appdata" and "pgdata" on a pool on an SD drive for fast loading and Dataset for User Data an another pool on my HDDs (I just named it "nextcloudData" on there - you could also add it as subdataset "userdata" to the "nextcloud" as shown in the video) Then Install and set Hostpaths for AppData, User Data and Postgress Data Storage these folders - pgbackup is not listed by default in installation - dunno how to set this up yet...

DBI installer with transmitter is just as easy if not easier. doesn't require a tool on your pc.

Unfortunately my Nextcloud did not setup at all like in this video, it also had allot of different parameters then what you have here. The installation changed again? It’s so frustrating that every TrueNAS update breaks everything and changes how to set up Nextcloud. In 24.10, all apps are now based on Docker, and host paths don’t work at all! Seriously, why?

theres one thing, Doing it that way Cloudflare will limit your uploads by 100mbps each time, i wanted to upload a bigger file and tried to turn off cloudflare tunnel in order to use the IP to connect directly to the nextcloud, I couldn't do it.... If you know how to fix that problem or how to get into the 'local' let me know! or solutions for the 413 file to large (i have already change the max upload file size and other var) thank you

Hi man, great job, but when trying to access my nextcloud service I ran into the message "Access through untrusted domain Please contact your administrator. If you are an administrator, edit the "trusted_domains" setting in config/config.php like the example in config.sample.php. ". Now I can no longer access my Nextcloud. If I understood correctly, it is necessary to edit the config.php file, but I can't find a way to do that? I am running ElectricEel-24.10.0.2. Is there a way to edit config.php? Thnx in advance.

I bought a Dell R730 XD, and I'm running a video editing agency with a team of 20 video editors and over 100 videographers. I'm planning to set up this system, so my question is: is it possible for my videographers to upload data to my local server? They typically upload projects that are between 100 to 300 GB to a drive and then share them with me. Can they upload directly to my server, allowing my editors to edit locally? Question 2: Do I need a firewall to protect my server from hackers? question 3: can this cloudflare setup can help my workload

It worked for me before but now in a new install on truenas 24.10 electric eel I have the annoying web of Nextcloud requiring to add the domain to trusted_domains. Please I would appreciate to know how to solve this

how do you do updates once you do this ? and what do you do if sd card fill up after ?

Thank you for the video. I am personally not able to fully complete these steps in Electric Eel. If I am outside of my network, I get a host error screen. I also noticed the your nextcloud installation video does not work 100% in electric eel either. There is currently a bug that does not allow a host path for pgdata, thus not letting the install complete. It would be amazing if you made a video explaining the installation of nextcloud and external access in electric eel as well. Cheers!

Great tutorial, i'm only having one issue, Sonarr keeps having issues with this error: Import failed, path does not exist or is not accessible by Sonarr. I've confirmed the path exists and files are still being moved after download, but that error still appears

Great Video!!! and it got me almost to the full solution that I'm wanting to employ. The last step for my Nextcloud journey from a connectivity perspective is to get the various I-phones to connect and access anywhere to Nextcloud. I was having trouble earlier this AM but after the pesky work meetings were done, I went back to this and it was working. I would suggest that maybe you do a quick coverage of the changes from previous Local IP to Cloudflare tunnel connectivity on an I phone if possible. Things that I did after I was able to remote into the site with a desktop was to completely delete the previous app and reload it then put in the tunnel web domain in the https box, ignore a certficate issue and then ultimately wait for a few hours to connect. I think this would be a great way to finalize your series. Also I did all of these steps in Electric Eeel. Some of the Truenas templates are a bit different but it did work for Collabra, Cloudflared and Nextcloud. Thanks again.

it messed up my emuMMC leaving me no other option but to reinstall emuMMC from scratch. Atmosphere would return a fatal error upon trying to boot after the update. Something to do with package1 I believe.

I almost give up, since I am on 24.04.0 trying to install the latest NextCould v2.0.18 (TrueNas)... All works smoothly now. Will start migrating my data from the OMV6 NextCloud in the next few days. Hey Randy, I realized you never actually showed the process of creating an SMB user. When creating the windows and unix shares, they can't be accessed via the windows network tab until a smb user is created and that user's credentials are used to login. Would have appreciated this crucial step being covered and what the recommended setup for one is.

Again, great video, I can since I discovered it enjoying using a cloud outside of my house. I have one remaining question, can you use Collabora like this or do you know which parameters you had to change to keep using it?

This video is a LIFESAVER. My wife and I just updated our phones to iOS 18.0.1 (then 18.1 a week later) and the update borked our access to Nextcloud. I couldn't even ping the server. Now I have an awesome domain AND I can access Nextcloud anywhere. Thank you so much.

Hi there, interesting video. The most exciting thing for me was immich as I recently tried to install and use it on a proxmox environment (in a docker compose) but I struggled with editing the paths to store my photos on a physical hard drive. It was very complicated for me because I have no clue how docker works and don't understand it. The next thing was updating immich server on docker so I'm very interested to see this method of installing it in true nas. Will try it next. Is updating easy? Updating it every few days (is there an option to update automatically if there is a newer version?) seems to be very stressful isn't it? Anyways a very good alternative to Google photos with the only 15 GB free storage, I really have to switch because my storage is nearly full. 😂
