    Hey boss, love love love the setup. I use those same stands. I have for over a decade. Those are not dw7000. Those are dw6000 or dw6000cp. Those are the original 6000’s. The shorter legged versions are dw6000ul (ul= ultra light). I like the ultra light for my snare. The shorter legs help stay out the way. But I’m definitely going to buy the Gibraltar snare stands soon.

    Hi ! I have a Jazz Fest with the throw off right next to the badge as you mentioned (the 3 things lined up). This is by far the most beautiful sounding snare I've ever used! The tone and sustain is incredible ! Mine has white marine finish, I guess the black oyster is even harder to find...). By the way, except for cosmetic change, why is this one (3 things lined up) more sought after than the later ones ? Is it only because this was Ringo's snare, or is it because they were made differently back then, and maybe sounded better than the ones they built after ? Thanks !

    • @vazquez808

      You my friend have a unicorn. Those were an in between run of snare drums. And the answer that makes sense to me the most is that they were attributed to Ringo. It should also be taller then 5” but not taller than 5.5” thanks for the info. I bet it’s awesome

    I have a set of 1967 Ludwigs that sound amazing. I bought a newer kit to gig with, 1970 Ludwigs. I added some more pieces to the kit, took them down to bare wood, did a little re-gluing and epoxy fill on one drum, reworked the bearing edges, re-coated the inside maple ply with 2 part urethane, re-wrapped them with something crazy looking from Walopus, polished up all the hardware and replaced what was worn out. I replaced the old tom mount nuts with the newer style big wing nuts, and even replaced some tom mounts with the new ones that work with the memory locking pieces. This took a ton of work, but was my idea of "getting a new kit". I play aggressively and the old Ludwig hardware works! They still sell a lot of it new and it's not dumbly expensive. Lots of eBay and Reverb listings for used vintage parts too. Like you, I am not using period snare, cymbal or high hat stands. I have modern Pearl pedals, and on the right drum carpet the kicks do not walk at all. The drums draw a lot of attention. It was my plan to just use the 1970 kit for gigging, but after I tuned them up for the first time decided "I'm recording with these!". Not for everyone. Like you say, gigging a vintage drum set has downsides, but these old kits were built for professional use. Once you bring them back they start a new life. Think about who was playing Ludwigs back in the day! Cool video. Love the kit!

    • @vazquez808
      @vazquez808 6 днів тому

      I agree with you, the vintage kits were designed for use at the highest levels right out of the box. It feels good to do your own work right? I’ve re-wrapped but i yet to paint or coat drums. Surprisingly working bearing edges was not as hard as i thought it was going to be. Cheers brother, thanks for watching my videos and taking the time to comment

    Awesome Trans Badge kit. I've got three vintage Ludwig/WFL kits. My 1948 WFL 13/16/24 is probably the best sounding kit I've played. I agree with the quality on the '64's - I think by '67 thinks calmed down a bit and quality went back up. My '67 and '68 kits are both amazing. I'd never gig with a vintage kit. Too much wear and tear, and the great sound doesn't really come through when playing through most PA's. I'd keep it for playing at home and recording. For playing live I'd go with what looks the coolest honestly, even if it were a beat up old pearl export or something.

      I understand your thinking. I kind of feel the same way. If I had a vintage kit in meant condition I'd be weary of taking them out as well. It depends on the gig. For jam night, I'm bringing my beater kit. Or for bar gigs.. same thing. If I'm playing a high profile gig, or at a nice church with no drums. I'll bring a nicer set. Regardless of what I bring to a gig, I handle my drums period!!

    Super great video! I have some collector drums that I wouldn't think of rewrapping, but my "beater" drums and my practice drums I wrapped, but on a super budget (in other words, as cheap ad I could). One of sets of Ludwig Rockers I used a fabric wrap that I taped the seams over the existing wrap, which I can remove at any time. They look great, I guess bc the wrap is flexible, not hard plastic or mylar type like yours. I wrapped 8 large drums for $36., and I have quite a bit left. Not meant to contradict your awesome advice, but a totally different approach for non valuable drums. Thank you.

    Awesome. I have a ‘68 and there are a couple differences. My internal dampener is a knob instead of the baseball bat. The throw off was busted so I replaced it as well as the butt plate with the new model (P88AC combo with the P35), but kept all the old parts just in case. The plan is to use it forever, so I’m less worried about resale value! I had to do some drilling and tapping to make it work, but it seems to have been nothing but improvements! She’s my workhorse.

      Awesome. I’m the same way with the snares that i keep. If i’m going to use them i have to feel confident that they’re not going to fall apart on me. So i make what ever changes i feel are necessary

      That’s awesome. Ludwig was notorious for mismatched items on their drums so im not surprised that the muffler was different. I’ve seen 2 drum sets that were stamped 1969 with the same week and month on all the drums but had a mix of keystone and the B&O badge.

      Absolutely, the funny thing is that most manufacturers today including Ludwig only use the 1.6 on their entry level drums
