Most Said It Couldn't be Done! How I Restored This 72 Year Old Lionel Hudson.
This poor 'Ol Gal was sent into me by Chris Linkie up in the Canada Area. Water fouled and rusted, It was begging for a re-paint and re-build. Black steamer was NOT an option. I gave it some color and a new lease on life.

So Much Broken!! Can I Fix This 83 Year Old Royal Blue Set?
Переглядів 15 тис.Місяць тому
This set has had a hard life. Bought from a 2nd hand store and sat here for months until I finally decided to see if the 3 rail 556 "O" gauge running gear will fit into a "S" gauge 2 rail boiler shell. The chugger tender and whistling baggage car were inoperative as well. Lots of work to be done to bring this 1941 passenger set back to life. Link to the A.F. pre-war catalog. clintjefferies.com/...
Bad From The Factory? Will This 61 Year Old Athearn Run?

This was sent into me by a viewer. A Beautiful 1961 4-6-2 AT & SF No. 826 Pacific. They started engineering this in 1958 and it failed many times. Poor drive design and rushed to market, this and it's 2 other sister Steamers only lasted a few years in Athearns catalogs to be discontinued in 1965. No Athearn steamers were ever made again until the Genesis line in 1998. Join this channel to get a...

MOOOO….love them cow / calf combos ! 👍👍
Great video and project you do fascinating renovations, I really enjoy watching. keep up the good work!
So you say it’s not a perfect paint job…but boy she’s still a looker ! - Classic model of the week right there !
For your white lines….look at Microscale decals…they make various stripes, checkerboards, etc in different widths and colors. You can also pick up some liquid paint mask so you can just paint it over your lights and lenses….simply peel it off when your paint is done.
Another rust remover (cheap) is Oxalic acid…. You can find it as deck cleaner for wood decks. It won’t attack good metal.
I saw a beautiful German Shepard.
Love that whistle sound..
33/100 %er … hehe… Anyone into model trains should be subscribed ! Ron, you have an awesome channel…so glad I came across it. 👍
One thing I like more than detailing model trains, is RESTORING THEM…. As such…I have learned a bunch of things watching your channel…KEEP IT UP 👍👍
They are so bad Bowser made a retro frame drivers and motor for the gs4 mohawk and j class locos
2:40 that's a 'greater than' symbol.
I thought you'd made the wiring diagrams available for download, but can't find a link for them. Any help would be appreciated. 🤓
Great video, I'm 68 years old and my love is 69, she wanted an S scale train, and I found this S scale American Flyer by A. C. Gilbert for $149.00 , it needs some TLC, so thank you for your video, it'll be a big help for when I tear into this. I was wondering why the coal car had wires coming form it, now I know, it's for the solenoid. thanks again, I will have to download the wiring schematics. 🙂
I have an A.F. and never knew they sold a 3 - railer. I thought that was Lionel's idea.
I almost spit my coffee out when you did the “photo shoot” 🤣🤣🤣👍
Looking good, just a suggestion I use a paint stick for fine lines & when wife gets new cookie sheets I take the old ones and use them for keeping all the parts in one place instead of placing them all over lot easier to keep track of.
Awesome work !
Hello from Fruitvale Texas. I’ve been binge watching your channel ,enjoining your content.
Spot on restoration the engine looks amazing
Stunning Locomotive!!! What a looker!!
Hey there! I have a question. I have a postwar whistling tender, and when I got it, it worked perfectly. A while back, it got bumped off the table, and the cover came off. I put the cover back on, and it was fine. But ever since that happened, it has always taken more amperage to make it whistel. Do you have any ideas on what is happening? Thanks.
I would say make sure the armature can spin freely. Also make sure your brushes are long enough so they dont fall half way out of the tube and wedge themselves in between the brush holder and the commutator. Give it a taste of oil on the armature bushings since your in there.
Train snobs annoy the shit out me, I love the Tyco stuff, first of all its vintage, that makes it fun, I have box loads of the stuff 50 years old and they all work. Its like why are the vintage Star Wars toys worth more than new stuff. I also have some pricey Australian HO, prices that go up all the time, but honestly have to treat them like a trophy, very fragile, with Tyco I just put them on track and dont worry about it. And yes I wanted this stuff as a kid and yes I am reliving my youth, I have a big smile playing with them and not competing with anyone.
I like the way you think there Steve!!
Excellent job. These things were built like tanks back in the day. With a little time and know-how you can easily repair them. You just gained a new subscriber!
Welcome aboard FRP!! :-)
i realy want it.you got polar express +
Thanks
Very nice idea to paint it up in the pacemaker paint scheme
Thanks
@ Anytime man, love your videos
Absolutely some amazing work Ron!
Thank you!
Wonderful work Ron! Inspirational for us 33%ers!
Thank you John :-)
Hi Ron, good to see you. I finally got thru this video, started watching Monday then called away. Watching a bit at a time all week, been busy here also. Wow, you did it again. Great save. I'm sure you will fix the horn in the tender. It sure smokes, going down the rails good. Nice paint scheme, good colors. Happy birthday to your wife and mother from another Sagittarius, 1212/62 here.. 😁. Go 33%ers. Cheers from here buddy, G 👏👍🇨🇦
Greetings G, thanks for your kind words. Ive never seen a Lionel smoke so good. that upgraded smoker heater was well worth the 10 bucks. Merry C-mas to you and yours as well :-)
Nice work Ron as usual Custom paint choice is perfect I am a NY Central and Lionel O fan It looks great I will watch for it on your eBay site Thanks bud and as soon as I can find the member signup link again I will one of those
Thanks Robert. I'm not putting this one up for sale. its gunna hang around for awhile for sure
1:01:29 Oh my... "Hurry up.........................and wait" 1987 in the Army, I haven't heard anyone else say that since! Gave me a good laugh when I heard you say the same thing. John
Ive never ran to get to somewhere and waited for so long as I did in Uncles outfit.
Hi Ron, first time looker inner. From Down Under. Oz, that is! I have just purchased a Mehano L&N 2-8-2 and would like to repaint it to Great Northen as in your video. My question is, do I require enamel or acrylic paint? I'm sure someone also "looking in" may know. Cheers matey! Great work you do.
Greetings John! I get a lot of Fellers from down your way watching. I'm no painter so I couldn't tell you which one is better. I hear acrylics have come a long way
Beautiful work Ron!
Thank you
What G scale starter sets are there? I’ve been looking and I only find ones for Christmas trees.
Bachmann makes them. they are speedy for a starter set for sure . avoid the plastic track sets. there junk
33%er…😁👍
Thank you!!!
Great restoration, Ron. The paint scheme turned out beautifully. You likely have a custom 2056 one-off now that no one else has.
Thank you! Hopefully I didn't start a trend :-)
Don’t know or care much for football, but the little I do know is the Buffalo Bills were there in 93’ and made me sad they weren’t represented here lol
I dont know much about football either
Bake light is fragile.
I agree
Outstanding !
Thank you
Hi Ron Thank You for another informative and helpful video. My friend Mike is giving me a ZW transformer. I hope it is all OK, but if it's not I have this video to help me. The ZW looks a bit complicated and I would be hesitant to open it up without this video. Thanks Again Jack
Good buddy of yours for sure Jack!
Very nice Ron! Reminds me I have a Santa Fe Hudson shell 8 got at a train show with other cars and parts for 4 bucks that I plan to find parts for and turn into a runner and give it one of the early 2000s rail sounds tenders with just a whistle bell and chuff sounds, since I’m not too fond on trying to revive a postwar air whistle, not sure what I’d paint into but probs gonna make it a Santa Fe Hudson.
Thanks. I just found one of those rail sound tenders in my stash. There pretty neat!!
Really sweet ! Nice save 👍
Thank you
Me personally when it comes to custom painting a postwar locomotive, I keep the black boiler and cab and just add accent colors. Gray smokebox and firebox, a touch of brown on the foe front coupler, white footboards and tires, only to finish off with a barn red cab roof. I do usually keep the original number though if it was tied to a very specific model, but just little touches of extra color is enough to break apart the black and still look like something you could find in the real world. Although I would love to see what a postwar Hudson would look like in Santa Fe bluebonnet colors
I like both your idea's, the subtle touches and a bluebonnet Hudson........ HHuuuuummmmmm..........!!!!
Awesome!
Thanks
Beautiful job Ron. Very nice.
Thank you
Wow, Ron. That engine looks amazing. Nice job. I am sure you made Lionel Dave jealous. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Thanks Mike! Local Dave's Collection is still way nicer than mine for sure though
I watched portions again and the money shot is outside on the track with your truck in the background with very similar color schemes. No doubt part of the Hollywood Directors Cut.
Money Shot!! Too FUNNY!!!!!! :-)
I admire your collection, Also, from the looks of the mechanics of that locomotive it pretty close to that of 'Varney' early 'Life-Like' which is now 'Walthers' it don't surprise me its probably a 'Varney' product under the 'Marx' banner, Just one thing, Did 'Marx' actually contract with varney to make their 'HO' trainsets?
Thank you and I'm not sure where Marx got there HO. It could be they made it
@@classicmodeltrains Thanks as usual take care.
What an incredible transformation... great job Ron. Patience and skill always win the day... or in this case, several days! Have a great Christmas and happy birthday greetings to your mom and significant other!
Thank you Paul
Ron, what size insulated wire did you use for the repairs?
14 Ga I believe. High temp so it has thicker jacket. Got it off the Amazon
Nice. Anything that runs on rails is my favorite…
Thanks Dean, I like the way you think
