I would say Sonic is a anti swordue character I know a lot of people say he gets walled out, but he has a lot of options to open up the character, catch their landings and edge guard them. I also think Lucario is another example, at first he has to fight them but when gets aura, he can start spacing them out. I been using these characters for multiple games against swordies. I do play K. Rool against sword characters

I like Woomy in this title and the nerfs are noticeable. Now she seems a little too honest outside of roller set ups, but if anyone get hit by roller, that means you're just a terrible player. Personal I prefer jump man against sword characters then woomy as he has more jank his combos and consistent ways to set it up at any percent to take stocks.

I stand by this opinion. Lucina is boneless aegis.

Counters or counter-like moves also help against mashy swordies constantly swinging aerials tilts and specials to cover space; just look at mkleo's recent match against spargo where he kept reading him with down b Seph i think has a better match up against swordies than most people seem to think since his counter like move acts funny, being a more explosion like hitbox in front of him that activates, some swordie landing aerials that would otherwise be safe against a traditional counter move are not safe at that range or angle against seph's "counter" move

I like Inkling but I think having to mash out of roller is cringe, a guy at my locals plays her and this time I was ok I'm just gonna shield and not get hit by roller, I did that for a while but then he just hit a random roller while recovering, then I remembered I had to mash, but he was already coming to forward smash me, and the effort it would take to probably die anyway wasn't worth it so I just watched as I died... Also, if I beat his Inkling, he's just gonna pickup MinMin, so the cringe never ends 😂

Inkling main with tons of Lucina experience here (Mr. E). MU is 55/45. Wouldn't call Inky a swordie counter outright tho as we definitely lose to Cloud and Shulk and I wouldn't call Chroy, Ike, or Seph winning MUs either. Also fyi Splattershot suuuucks vs Lucina. You can just Up B it either oos or even if it hits you. And before you say "just zone with it" that's usually not worth it. It's often a waste of ink which you'll need and it doesn't do much, plus you can just swat it if you max space any aerial as a swordie. It's better as a landing option, ledge mixup (not against Luci tho due to Up B), edge guard tool, or in specific scenarios in other matchups (stops Spin Dash, gets rid of Gyro, blows up Snake's grenades). Just space bairs instead, it's better in every matchup that doesn't have some utility purpose for the Splattershot like the ones I mentioned. There are better ways to get people inked up anyway, namely rapid jab. You only need them half inked for the full benefit of it, so a rapid jab will generally suffice. At high percents you can use Splattershot to clear your stale list, but I wouldn't recommend it over saving ink for a Splat Bomb ledge trap if you're low on ink (which odds are you are low on ink if they're at high percent).

In traditional fighters, you can create whiff punish opportunities with walking in and out of your opponents attack range, but this is really hard in Smash because walking has this weird acceleration on it for a lot of characters, and that makes it really hard to use it for whiff punishes or to find good use cases for it. (I do like it for landing tippers as Marth or Ridley though). Dashes actually do work as a good tool for this but they require good enough stats to reliably do and you're locked out of a lot of options when you do it since Dash Attack now overtakes most of your normals. As a result, I think whiff punishing can be kinda tricky for a lot of characters to do in Ultimate compared to other fighters since we're working with these as our options, and that means some characters are gonna have easier time with whiff punishing than others. It relies a lot more on good moves and stats to do, moreso than trad fighters or a game like Melee with it's less committal movement options like Dash Dancing and Wavedashing. It also makes sense that characters like Inkling and Joker and Greninja are gonna be really good at whiff punishing, because unlike Mario and Falcon, they have options that hit from a long range really quickly. Mario's Fireball is kinda slow compared to Inkling and Jonkler's guns and shuriken. Having a disjoint on top of that, a low profile dash, and a rushing special? Makes total sense why Inkling shits on Swordies like this. That's a kit with a lot of swordie's weaknesses, meaning more nonsense that swordie players gotta look out for. It's much harder to look out for several good tools than it is looking out for one good tool.

Interesting. Its an even matchup for mii sword 2113. I never struggled ag inkling although i suck at mashing outve roller burry. Mii brawler also does very well ag her.

Good thing I'm a Link main so, I'm not like other swordies. (I can camp you out, combo you, or outspace you all in one kit.)

As a Mii Swordie main, I haven't had many problems with fighting Inkling. Down Tilt, Nado, and Forward Tilt help stop the dash spam, and I run Airborne Assualt for recovery and grounded mixups. Most Swordies have either a fast disjointed down tilt, a Counter, or both to stop awkward approaches and force opponents to play by our gameplan. It's hard sometimes, but I try to adapt my playstyle to my opponent if I notice my standard combos aren't working.

agree. those characters you mentioned. (gren, sheik, inkling) low profile like crazy, and they have a gimping win con that they will go for given the oportunity. they have the "I dont have to hit you to beat you" gameplan that is effective on swordies.

Inkling is one character i wanted for smash. Nowadays I play GnW competitively and was tired of losing to ikes and shulks. So I've picked up many characters. Mainly diddy to be the swordie stomper. He's SO hard tho. Maybe I go back to my origins now
