Hi, I'm Lucy
On a remote subtropical island, somewhere on earth, you'll find our off grid homestead. We live in an old stone house, with three children, and produce our own electricity, water, and vegetables. With Shetland Geese, Chickens, Guinea Fowl, and two cats to care for, we're slowly transforming 5 acres of wild land into edible gardens. We have 15+ years of experience living this way, so we know a thing or two about how to make off grid living work through our own failures.
We would be really grateful for any support through our Ko-Fi page, or subscribe to our Patreon, so that we can save money for future projects.

So wonderful so wonderful so wonderful so wonderful so wonderful so wonderful so 😮😮
don't feel bad I want to work all of mine I've had him in a pen for 2 weeks punishing them because they just destroyed my entire Garden this year. everything I planted at the beginning of the season in March got wiped out I'm just now finally catching up
Do you have any pineapple plants? They may grow in your area also. They seem to do well here in Hawaii at higher elevation.
Yes 😊 though, they are now in a little too much shade, and I'm really not looking forward to re-planting elsewhere. Love pineapples, but I really hate dealing with the plants on our terrain 🏔️
Looks good. Have you had fruit off your seed avocado tree yet. Watching from New Zealand. I also live on 5 acres but it is mostly paddocks for the horses. But still grow veg and have a few fruit trees. Grew tamarillos a few years ago and they did well. I have taro growing but have never eaten it so will give it a try.
we actually haven't, though it makes so many flowers, but that's because it needs a friend or two. The avocado fruit trees we bought I think will need replacing, due to the flooding from the stream. I think I will plant a few Hass Avocados in this area. We have Tamarillos too, they are so delicious 🤤
Great watch. One of my fav episodes of New lives in the wild was your one. What an incedible place to live.
thank you for saying so 🙏🏼 ☺️
Where is this?
🏝️
Hi, How much costa an avocado tree there?
around 40 euros 🌲
Thx, what kind of fruit trees have you plant in tour land?
I wondered what made you buy a property on the island, as your interest is gardening and it seems a hard place to do that.
Magnus moved here because his father bought the house in the 1970s, and after moving here he was able to buy the land around the house that enables the house to have road access. The soil is so fertile 🌱 but, it's a little windy at times 🌬️
Have you got a permit for those chickens?
chickens are outlaws
Beautiful.
Dehydrating food is great for preservation.
Good luck Lucy. It's sad to see that the dirty work is left to you
I live for the dirty work
Hi there guys. The homestead is looking good. I was wondering if you ever see my daughter Paula Coelho who moved back to Flores , in Fazenda across the river from your home?. I enjoy watching your videos.
Hi, thank you. Not really but summer is coming and I hope to see her at the forest park often. I need to arrange with her. We seem to always have viruses coming through our household due to the boys being at school, so we're glued to our place a lot.
Great video keep it up!
I really can’t help but guess where , just knowing that I’m not supposed know makes me want too. My guess is Norfolk Island There really isn’t too many subtropical islands even less that are wet and even less that have tree ferns, and possibly some kind of Araucaria.
Wonderful video! I have enjoyed catching up with your story. Such a beautiful place. You work so hard and are doing so well. Love the animals and little boy. Many blessings to you! Janice from Arkansas USA

the pellets are too big fol so small chickens
they definitely aren't too big for our mouse-eating forest dinos

Hey ! Did you change the name of your youtube channel that was earlier named as Homestead flowers?
Hey, yea... needed something a little more mysterious 😅 glad you found us again
New subscriber, here. We grow micro greens inside all year long and they are very nutricious and tasty. They could be a side bar to your self-sufficient menu. If you could live on beauty alone, your homestead would be completely finished today! All the best

Is it on the island of Flores - Azores?
Im from azores ❤ born raised its beautiful but not for me.

Hey, we're not going to say where we live. Although we love living on this island year round, we don't want to appear to be promoting tourism here. There's also a growing trend of locals not wanting good things for others that live here, so we just prefer to not promote our videos on the island 😊
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys good work.
Simple life, good life. I think is wonderful
❤❤
Great that you're back!
Nice work on the potato plot Lucy. That compost will surely do wonders for anything that gets a dose of it, especially those tomatoes! Great work on the truck Magnus! I wish i could say my truck fixing adventures went as well on mine as the 4wd is still not working and will most likely have to go to the "stealership" to be fixed but such is life. Glad to see things are moving along well for you all and really enjoy your videos!
good luck 🤞 Magnus had to fix the truck because the only official mechanic here has a 6 month waiting list... I think almost everyone here fixes their cars in their garage 🥴
@@thefarawayhollow Haha yeah I have a large garage/workshop that I do most all of my own maintenance in as well (by choice). It just seems the newer the vehicle the more complicated the problems. 😁
I need that growlight for my weak af seedlings 😂
Same 😭
I'm curious, is it an island in Europe?
Looks like Flores -Azores.
omg Dan, 🤫
You can delete my comment to make sure that nobody finds out;)
Beautiful place you have there and a lovely family as well! I have a little guy about the same age and they are so much fun at that age! Hope you are able to get your truck fixed as I can imagine it is quite a hassle for it to be down. Anyways thanks for sharing your homestead and look forward to more videos! From Florida Usa.
I hope so too. We have the part for the truck, now Magnus just needs to learn how to be a mechanic 😉
@@thefarawayhollow I feel his pain, have much work to do on my truck this weekend. Good Luck Magnus from one overworked Dad to another. (Moms we men know your far more over worked but this is about us right now 😝)
It's so nice to see you and your place again❤
Nice update. Hope you will be motivated to post more regularly, you have something unique set up. Pity about the experience of poor commitment from some of your volunteers.
Definitely going to be posting more regularly 😃
Hard work and sweat equity, kids are involved as well... looks perfect! Thanks for sharing as it is a very beautiful place you have there!
Anytime I see footage of the Azores I’m ready to hop on one of those cheap flights and come visit
Miss watching your video's hope all is well with your family. Merry Christmas ❤
Why would you do that to perfectly good brownies ?!!!!!!
I grew up with parents trying to grow our own food and learned how much work it takes; no more. My much younger siblings had a much different upbringing with soda! 😆 I wound up cooking whole foods plant based in my home; not many people I know do that. Thanks for showing fermented carrots, I will try it. I’ve only made canned pickles and quick refrigerated pickles. I make kimchi. Thanks for sharing your beautiful videos.
Unfortunately floods seem to be happening more and more frequently in several places around our planet. I've sent you 3 coffees :)
A lovely sunny day :)
Ok I hit subscribe but where on Flores is y'all's home sted pleas give a map location I plan on retiring to Flores in a few years and with Google maps and videos trying to get an idea of terrain because I'm not looking for a bunch of boring pasture land .an understanding of your location would be helpful but I understand if you are security minded .
vocês vivem no paraíso.
