  • On a remote subtropical island, somewhere on earth, you'll find our off grid homestead. We live in an old stone house, with three children, and produce our own electricity, water, and vegetables. With Shetland Geese, Chickens, Guinea Fowl, and two cats to care for, we're slowly transforming 5 acres of wild land into edible gardens. We have 15+ years of experience living this way, so we know a thing or two about how to make off grid living work through our own failures.

Love it! I am inspired by what you guys are doing and think the nursery idea is gold. The flowers are so pretty too. I failed with flowers this year- watching you do your magic with them reminds me to not give up;) Great video!

Thank you 🙏 that's kind of what I love about flowers. These were super root bound so I just found a spot to stick them and they are actually coming back to life 😊

Nice! Keep an eye on the plastic, in my experience this type disintegrates super quickly. The thicker, green-ish agricultural plastic lasts for years if you can get your hands on that. I love those cosmos 😍

I would have to stash it on the plane with me whenever we take another trip to the mainland, because shipping prices are 3 times what they used to be 😪

and thank you for the videos, there aren't many from Flores and my mom enjoys seeing the island, her time on the island has been more limited since my dad died.

Hey ☺️ I'm glad you enjoy them. Fazenda is a very quiet village, much more quiet than what it was when Magnus first arrived. No shop or cafe, and rarely any events. But, we love its peaceful nature. We only hear the hum of farm machines and the occasional cow from across the river. Maybe your mom knows some history about how our house came to be? Because we have always found it crazy that someone would build a house out here.

Maybe, she was talking about how at first she thought the house was one owned by someone from asian decent, but wasn't sure, it might have been a different property. She pointed out some pastures at the top that they use to have their goats on.
When you don't have much for food you work it all, my dad talked about going up and down to get water and some nights just sleeping up there with the goats because he didn't want to come back down.
My mom told me some stories about the wind, they didn't have a coop and the chickens would just be in hte trees, and somedays it would get really windy and they just all be dead and you wouldn't have eggs for a while.
It was certainly a different time.
