    My thoughts regarding some years: 84: this year for proves why Lauda is one of GOATS of F1 as snatching that title and beating Prost in his own game is something else. 98: I think both Mika or Schumi deserves this title. Schumi had a higher highs, but he also make a noticeable blunders on Monaco with Wurz and Diniz and I laugh just how he lucked in Canada when he received stop-and-go penalty for his "driving" and still overtaken Fisi for a win. And Mika also had more relaiablity issues that denied 2 more races comparing 1 for Michael. 99: HHF winning is the only correct option but far more interesting way is that if Schumi wouldn't break his leg I think Mika and Mclaren would more competent in the end. And even without considering this accident I still think Frentzen was more consistent and made less blunders (only ones are failing to disable launch control but it also his engineer fault too and spun off in Malaysia qualifying) compering with Schumi (crashing on his own in Canada, trying to gambling on Magny-Cours with higher downforce setup and stalling his car in Australia). 00: Arguable, Schumi had a phenomenal start and the end but in mid-season he had 3 blunders on his own (Monaco retiring by pushing too hard and 1-lap shunt in Austria and Hockenheim). McLaren was also more unreliable. 07: Ham phenomenal first half was also benefitted by Kimi and Alonso struggling to adapt for to new tires and cars. Once they've done it Lewis lost this advantage and KImi second half was as monstrous. And I still can't figure out why Ham wasn't penalized in Japan as he brake checked and caused Webber and Seb crash (and ironically benefitted Kimi position). 08: Neither Ham or Massa deserve this title. They both make too many mistakes and Kubica is far more deserving this title. Nando second half once Renault started figuring their car was the best overall. 09: Button is far more deserving despite his second half. 11: Seb and RB7 was the best combo, but Button is in very close second and along with 2004 his personal best. 15: Ham deserves this title, but Seb if he had better car I think he could challenge him (I think it was his the best drive where he very close to Mercs in point until second-half). 16: Danny Ric is the winner here, sorry not sorry. 17: I think Seb had better edge, but his blunder in Singapore with pile-up sealed his fate along with mechanical issues later. 18: Deserving title by Lewis. But the real question if Nando was in Ferrari we would potentially win title as he really dragged his McLaren to places where it shouldn't be. 21: Max is the only answer. Lewis winning would be the luckiest WDC as he made a huge blunder in Baku and lucked in Silverstone when Leclerc received his engine issues (plus celebrating like crazy after that collision with Max is for me the point of no return to Max and Ham relationship) 24: Second half is the reason why Max is the best driver of if this generation. Even with his aggressive moves he still had wins in Brazil and Qatar. Additional notes: current viewers wouldn't get just how incredible Fangio and Clark were at their time. I even said prior if Clark had better reliability he would win every championship he participated and Fangio with likes like Ascari and Moss still made miracles with his car.

      His “charge” was only because Nico realised all he had to do was finish second to Lewis in every remaining race. And Nico lost more points due to reliability and bad luck

      @nedzosf1gridbox I'd say Hamilton had more bad luck in 2016 with things like worse reliability in qualifying and Malaysia but in saying that; Rosberg was good ngl. Most fastest laps, took his chances (and nearly doubled his win count simultaneously) and pounced in races like Baku and Monza.

    Completely agreed with Alain Prost for 1982. For 1981 i would have picked Alan Jones who had a spate of late-race retirements and dominated Reutemann throughout the season. For 1973 i would have picked Fittipaldi, who suffered a temporary loss of form after his crash in Zandvoort. However, i completely agree with Lauda for 1974-75-76-77 ...

    This is the ultimate showcase of subjective fanboyism prevalent in the F1 community. It is logically flawed to compare drivers in different cars, and say one is the best of them all by your subjective metrics. Drivers with weak teammates can be easily thought of as overperforming the "slower" car, when it is impossible by nature and the reality is just their teammate making the car look slow. Drivers with weak teammate is also being viewed more favourably in terms of consistency due to the low amount of effort for them to beat their weak teammates and look good. With the amount of rhetoric happening in the F1 community, there is no way that the "overperforming" god Fernando Alonso got matched and arguably beaten by the "car merchant" Lewis Hamilton as a rookie in the same car. Same with Kimi Raikkonen, the "biggest natural talent" being actually underwhelming in the face of a mere Sebastian Vettel in the same car, who himself got dominated by some random guy named Charles Leclerc. You can only compare drivers who race in the same car, otherwise you'll embarrass yourself when your favourite driver got exposed.

    • @nedzosf1gridbox
      @nedzosf1gridbox 3 дні тому

      That’s a great argument except I don’t have any favourite nor fully support the ideas of Alonso always over performing/lewis only winning because of his cars, you can see my other videos that prove that

      Explain where you got third best in 81 from because even with Hector Rebaque in the other car they got second in the constructors. And in 87 I said he was better than Mansell but Prost and arguably senna were faster and better overall.

    • @LuísJoel-s7k
      @LuísJoel-s7k 3 дні тому

      @nedzosf1gridbox Hector scored 11 points in 81, Piquet scored 50. In 87 Piquet had a nearly fatal crash in Imola and was never de same driver. Yes, he got slower, but being fastest isn't everything. He accepted his new limitations and knew he'd lose the championship without bringing new variables to the table so he drove Mansell crazy and fought Patrick Head the entire season. That's genius but you're probably too young to value that kind of thing.

In the 90s I think Hakkinen was the only one who was close skill wise and frentzen was mid, and Mika was also pretty inconsistent going from abt 70% as good to 100. Lewis and Fernando meanwhile had each other and so many other standout 00z and 10s drivers to compete with. Just another factor, but roughly this is very good

    I really like stuff like this. Naturally, I think you're off on quite a few cases, but most of the comments have way worse takes. My personal list: I genuinely mean it could be either if I'm using "or". This can be for various reasons (I'll elaborate on some situations at the end). 1950 Fangio 1951 Fangio or Ascari 1952 Ascari 1953 Ascari 1954 Fangio 1955 Fangio 1956 Fangio or Moss 1957 Fangio or Moss 1958 Moss 1959 Moss 1960 Moss 1961 Moss 1962 Clark 1963 Clark 1964 Clark 1965 Clark 1966 Clark 1967 Clark 1968 Stewart 1969 Stewart or Rindt 1970 Stewart 1971 Stewart or Peterson 1972 Stewart 1973 Stewart 1974 Peterson 1975 Peterson 1976 Lauda 1977 Lauda 1978 Lauda 1979 Villeneuve 1980 Villeneuve 1981 Villeneuve 1982 Rosberg 1983 Piquet or Rosberg or Prost 1984 Rosberg or Prost or Lauda 1985 Prost or Senna 1986 Senna or Prost 1987 Senna 1988 Prost or Senna 1989 Senna or Prost 1990 Senna 1991 Senna 1992 Senna 1993 Senna 1994 Schumacher 1995 Schumacher 1996 Schumacher 1997 Schumacher 1998 Schumacher 1999 Schumacher or Frentzen 2000 Schumacher 2001 Schumacher 2002 Schumacher 2003 Schumacher or Alonso 2004 Schumacher 2005 Schumacher or Raikkonen or Alonso 2006 Alonso or Schumacher 2007 Raikkonen 2008 Alonso 2009 Alonso 2010 Alonso or Kubica or Hamilton 2011 Alonso 2012 Alonso 2013 Alonso or Vettel 2014 Alonso or Hamilton 2015 Hamilton 2016 Alonso or Hamilton 2017 Verstappen or Hamilton or Vettel 2018 Hamilton 2019 Verstappen 2020 Verstappen 2021 Verstappen 2022 Verstappen 2023 Verstappen 2024 Verstappen or Leclerc Now for some explanations: I have a much poorer grasp on the 50s to mid-60s than on the rest. 1985 and especially 1986, I have Senna ahead of Prost on pure driving but his unique ability (as per f1 metrics) to influence his own mechanical reliability, which made a huge impact in those years, gets Prost in the conversation. 1992 was a pretty poor year for Senna, but there isn't any competition. Schumacher wasn't there yet, Prost was literally not there, and Mansell is not a top driver of anywhere close to that caliber. 1999 Schumacher was the best driver but if you (understandably) don't count him for missing half of the season, Frentzen is the next best. In 2017, it's a philosophical decision between Verstappen on one side and Hamilton/Vettel on the other. Verstappen barely saw the finish line due to woefully reliability and bad luck. Every unaffected race he is great. The question for me is then: Is it realistic for Verstappen to go the whole season near perfectly if he had normal reliability and luck? And further, does it matter?

      @Thomas-dl4cb 3 дні тому

      @theiceman7590 he scored 0 points twice due to no fault of his own, Irvine only once. Irvine is also a pretty decent driver and 3rd best of 1999. That is not to say that Schumacher's 1999 wasn't considerably worse than previous and following seasons. However, that is also partially up to the small amount of races, which puts more weight on his blunder in Canada. In 2005 Michael made more mistakes than Raikkonen and Alonso but he was also still easily the quickest driver around (not by a mile like 94-02 but distinctly). He also made those mistakes in a very bad car, meaning a high risk, high reward strategy makes a lot of sense, especially with fewer points to go around.

    Alain Prost 1989! Dont make me Laugh. You say over "the course of the season they were fairly equal", Senna won 6 wins to Prost's 4, Senna lost 2 more wins in the last 3 laps through mechanical problems, one of which was gifted to Prost, Prost won that title by picking up points, Senna dominated him on the track. Same as in 1988 Senna won more races than Prost and lost another in the last laps at Monza thanks to Schlesser taking him out at the 1st chicane. You are clearly a big Prost fan cause how you give him 1987 over Mansell is ridiculous.

    Kimi wasn't the best driver in 2007 and 2009. In both seasons he struggled way too much against Massa imo. I would give 2007 to Hamilton and 2009 to either Hamilton or Alonso. 2010 is also questionable. Alonso made too many errors in the first half of 2010. I personally think that Hamilton, Kubica and Rosberg were at least aa good, if not even slightly better than Alonso during the season. 2016 is also very questionable. Verstappen did a fantastic job considering the circumstances but he wasn't even the best Red Bull driver. And there are more weird choices.

      Lewis was inconsistent in 07, fantastic first half but a sharp drop off, 2009 I’ve realised that people are right about, I didn’t see Kimi’s poor form and it’s the one I’d most like to go back and change. Hamilton doesn’t deserve 09 because kovalainen was beating him when both drivers finished without issue but Alonso isn’t a bad shout, and Kubica isn’t a bad shout for 2010. Verstappen beat Ricciardo in the head to heads in 2016 and had a comfortable upper hand by the time he got used to the car

      Kimi was, by far, the best driver in 2007 and 2009. In fact, Kimi had to adapt to a ton of variables in 2007 too, that Massa didn't have to. First, Raikkonen outqualified Massa in 2009 BEFORE the accident, 5-4. Kimi was faster, with a car that didn't suit him in the first half. Race overview: Australia: Kimi had a car issue with the diff (before he hit the wall). This caused him to hit the wall and then his car was totally undriveable, as the diff was further damaged from the accident. Malaysia: Kimi was just better all weekend. Kimi got by hurt by a horrific strategy. China: Räikkönen complained about significant power loss from the engine from near the start and then had a sudden lack of grip. He still finished ahead of Massa officially. Bahrain: Kimi pushed his Ferrari up to sixth place, making up four positions from the start. Massa meanwhile MADE CONTACT with other drivers at the start and had to pit to replace his front wing. Massa was already out of contention before he started to notice power issues. Kimi clearly was the better driver in the race. Spain: In the first segment of qualifying, Kimi Räikkönen, set a time he thought good enough to make it through to Q2, and decided not to go out again, to be sure of having enough new tyres for the all-important Q3. Kimi then retired from the race with a hydraulics issue. Impossible to compare as Ferrari didn't even think of sending Kimi out when he clearly was not going to make the cut. Monaco: Kimi destroyed Massa in qualifying and the race. Turkey: Räikkönen qualified sixth, (ahead of Massa) but damaged his front wing on the first lap (not his fault). Silverstone: Kimi was much faster, and went from 9th to 5th at the start, but had a horrific strategy that completely destroyed his race and stuck him in traffic. Germany: Debris got stuck in the radiator and perforated it. On lap 14 he was asked by the pitwall to lower the revs (he was catching Massa) and then, after the pit stop, he started losing performance right until the moment he had to stop. Then Sutil made contact with him and forced Kimi to retire with radiator damage. Even before his midseason resurgence, due to the car suiting him better, he was better than Massa. In quali and the races. Kimi was the best driver that season.

    Pastor will be delighted with your assessment. 😂 But what about those awful "wins" arranged by team orders? How many races has Lewis won because Valtteri had to be reined in by James? Or poor Rubens in Austria? Or, "Fernando is faster than you"? Or, the last fortysomething driver to win a race (which Nigel had no business winning)? 😉 Nice try... but in the end it's a bit of a moot point. The "W" is all that counts, a win is a win is a win, right?
