He's still going too, driving in the Brazilian stock car series. Always had a soft spot for him, I think he and Irvine are the default Jordan driver pairing in my mind when I think of the team.
A very respectable driver worthy of the Ferrari seat. 11 wins; 14 poles; 17 fastest laps and 68 podiums in a 326 race career, also twice a runner-up. I believe he helped Schumacher in 2002 and especially 03 but what I rate about him most was his racecraft.
Imagine if he didn't get that podium in 2004, the 0 wins is already painful, but if he didn't even step on a podium there once..that would have been criminal from life, thankfully at least he got that 1 trophy
There was something James Hunt said about Ayrton Senna that applies to Rubens Barrichello more so unfortunately: "When people talk about 'home advantage,' this doesn't seem to apply to Senna as he has 'home disadvantage,'" Just one podium, a third place in 2004 in 19 attempts, as Martin Brundle said after Barrichello retired from the lead in 2003: "Nobody can be that unlucky," That one was his 9th retirement from his home Grand Prix in a row, heartbreaking
If Rubens of converted Pole to victory in 2009 Brazil Grand Prix, Jenson finishes a position lower in 6th, it would of been 81 points to Jenson's 88 points going into the final event. He would had a shot at the title. Probably his only shot as no matter his status at Ferrari a prime Schumacher was too good for him. Would of been cool to see him take it to the final race in 09, he'd of still lost, but there would of been more excitement going into the last event and least he would of felt like he had a chance.
rubinho was overall better than jenson that year, especially the latter half when he got used to the brakes. pretty shocking considering how old he was and that button fared well against hamilton in the 3 following seasons. crazy to think that this guy spent his prime in the shadow of schumacher while he was more than worthy of being a champion himself
Look up 'home race jinx' in the dictionary and you will find a picture of Rubens Barrichello (and maybe Charles Leclerc, but now he's won at Monaco can we remove him from the home race curses list?). 19 races at Interlagos, with 0 wins, 3 poles, 1 fastest lap, 1 podium, 4 other points finishes, 3 non-points finishes and 11 DNFs. Just mad. The streak of 9 DNFs in a row from 1995-2003 must've been painful for him. Another driver who I'd swear had a bit of a home race jinx was Jenson Button. Mostly thanks to the fact that he never got a podium at Silverstone, never mind a win or a pole. Though in my opinion, Barrichello's home luck was probably worse.
Despite being typical number two driver, both Barrichelo and Massa had a shot of winning drivers championship in their respective career.Mark Webber also falls into this category, if only he didn't screw up at '10 Korean GP.
I believe that Barrichello and Webber had very similar careers that seemed to overlap each other in many ways. I have them both in S-tier by the way on that all time scale.
