Challenger 4WD
Australia
Приєднався 8 кві 2018
Hi my name is Neil and I’m based in Sydney NSW Australia. I’m planning to visit as much of Australia as I can in my 4WD which is a 2013 Mitsubishi Challenger. If I’m camping, I’ll be towing the Stockman Pod off-road trailer. This channel is focused on 4WD touring and camping, adventure travel, product reviews and dog friendly activities. If I’m visiting a State Forest I’ll take Anton our French bulldog because dog’s are permitted in State Forests. For longer trips he’ll be staying home, especially if the trip includes National Parks.
The gear I’m using at present is:
Sony A7IV & Sony A6500
GoPro Hero 10
GoPro Hero 3+
DJI Mavic Air
Manfrotto Tripod
Joby Mini
Editing is on a dual screen Desktop with Premiere Pro 2023

Is the beach only accessible by 4WD ? It looks amazing , thank you !
Hi Louisa, there’s a holiday park there, and you can walk across the road to the beach. If you have a 4WD though you can drive all the way down to Burrum Heads. I think further up towards 1770 would be my pick though. Absolutely beautiful up there. 😀👍🏻
Does not show how to fit
That video is a short from a longer video which goes into more detail Gary. Tech Video # 14. I attached the Kings winch rope to a Winchline Grabber which is from the USA then I just wound the new rope on. 😀🤙🏼
Are challengers not good on sand? I was gonna consider on owning one
It’s good on sand. It’s actually towing the Hyundai which had broken down on the beach. I think people commenting thought the Challenger was just driving on its own? The tyres are at 17psi. btw. The full video on YT has it driving on the dunes too. 😀👍🏻
Happy New Year mate
Thanks Jarrad, happy new year to you too! 😀🤙🏼
Looks like this guy doesn't know how to drive on the beach. Tyre pressure to high. And in to high a gear range. My guess. And I dont have a 4wd just a brain.
Noah's first dry run...
I love that part of the world - Thanks for sharing. Are you happy with the pod? I'm about 85% there and getting ready to drop some coin on one early in the New Year. Maybe.
Thanks, yeah the Pods are made in Australia and they’re bulletproof. Galvanised chassis etc and should last forever. We’re thinking of getting a caravan but the pod has been no trouble. 😀👍🏻
@@Challenger4WD appreciate the response. Thanks very much.
@ no worries, I subbed to your channel btw, the content is excellent. Cinematic in fact. Hopefully we can do a collaboration at some point? 😀👍🏻
@@Challenger4WD thank you and sounds like a plan!
It's a Mitsubishi, what do you expect. Go buy a Toyota mate
😂

Let the pressure down. Or stay out of the sand!
Very good advice! Especially the NSW north coast beaches. 👍🏻😀
Found this spot randomly on a road trip a couple years ago. Taking the dog for a quick walk and boom there’s this amazing old bridge! So cool.
Wow great story! And it’s not far from the new Great south Road, (Hume Highway) is it? 👍🏻😀
Nice video thanks for sharing
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. 😀🤙🏼
The 2 second responce time was tested 😂
Pre 2010, I would buy an annual pass most years. Back then you could access the now flooded sand dunes next door and test your vehicle and sand driving skills. Not sure if the pass is worth the money nowadays without the dunes included 😢
@@iant6625 Thx for the comment but it’s difficult to answer…There are lots of negatives eg, it was $50 for the day last time I went, but there’s also nowhere between Sydney and Eden you can drive on a beach. And it’s so close to Sydney, plus you can have your car next to you, put the awning up etc. If Stockton was handy it would definitely be worth a pass. I had a day trip up to Stockton and loved it. 😀👍🏻
I see a possibility using the deflating button w AEG on board pressure display to deflate tyres. Make sense?
@@garytai9585 Gary, yes it does deflate quite well but it’ll be slower than those dedicated 4WD deflators that disengage the valve core because they are really fast. 😀👍🏻
Good video mate. What Tyre pressure did you go down to if you don’t mind me asking ?
Thanks, I can’t remember at Boat Harbour, maybe 25? But it’s difficult to get bogged there so not as important but if you look at my Stockton Beach video I went to 18psi because you go up a dune to get to the beach. You could go lower at Stockton but it went ok on the dunes at 18 psi but the beach is a slog. If we’d been going up to Tin Town I think I’d have dropped it more. 😀👍🏻
Great video and I'm plotting out the same track to do with my son in a few weeks on a Father&Son camping weekend..just wondering what you dropped PSI down to for these trails? Did something similar and we went down to 26PSI for the majority of it. Thanks!
Thank you, something magic about father and son trips. Yes I dropped the tyres well under 30psi, just for comfort. It’s a great trip and better over a couple of days so camping somewhere, maybe Dingo Dell, is a good idea. Let me know how you go, I’ll be interested in the conditions. 😀👍🏻
Love the challenger it’s a beast. Where did you get the dual battery tray from? Did anything in the engine bay have to be shuffled for fitting?
Thx Darrel, when I bought the Challenger the dual battery set up was already done so I don’t know if any components were moved but I’m glad you asked because I went to have a look at it and noticed both battery clamps were loose! So I tightened them up before it got me in trouble! 😀👍🏻
Thanks Neil nice video mate
Thx Jim 😀👍🏻
You ruined the video with the superimposed soundtrack
Yeah some people really don’t like a soundtrack that doesn’t match the video. I do it sometimes if I think it’ll be funny but it doesn’t work that often. 😩👍🏻
Went to talbingo every second weekend fishing an hunting when I was a kid 45 + years ago
That’s a good childhood! Kids now are indoors playing Minecraft? 😀 You were getting fresh air and exercise…I’d never been before and it was very impressive. Rugged bush and the massive dam and the lake surrounded by mountains. Not a soul there either as it was midweek. 👍🏻
I went on a tour of Tumut 3 Power station a couple of years ago when it was open to the public for the 75th anniversary. It was pretty cool.
I bet it was interesting. I don’t think we could do another Snowy Hydro if we had to do it again. There’s 8 power stations, 16 dams and it was one of the biggest engineering projects on the planet. 👍🏻😀
probably half the price and just as good.. All the us junk is made in china or mexico now anyway.
@@joey66436 I think it’s under $50K so less than half the price. 😀🤙🏼
south park was right
@@dnkmarci 😂
I don't know why we can't have these in South Australia anymore
Yep I agree, it’s pretty silly to have different restrictions in all the states. 👍🏻😀
G’day just wondering if your dash lights are orange an have u change them thanks
I just put a community post up Steven with pics of my dash lights both sides of the steering wheel. I have one warning light on atm but I know why that one came on. 😀🤙🏼
Hi mate what is the dimensions for the rack please
It’s 1.6m L x 1.1m W, (1600mm x 1100m) 😀👍🏻
@@Challenger4WD cheers mate do u have the the name on it I want get one too as I got the same car as u
@@giacas3998 ok well it was a 2nd hand one I got from a wrecker, and there’s no name on it. So, you could just buy the same size either a new one or used and it’ll fit on those roof bars ok. Cheers 🤙🏼
Thanks mate I’m gonna the same set up same as u. Do u know what is the load capacity for the rail bar ? im gonna put cross bar and roof top tent approx weight 75 kg so u reckon will not over weight Cheers
The rail mount system is rated at 100kg on the bitumen but if you’re off road touring then the swaying and all that movement is an issue. So try and keep the weight on the roof at or below 70kg. Also 2 maxtrax is 8Kg. A shovel is 4kg so add all the other items up as well. Also watch that Tyler Thompson video with his Rhino Racks coming loose? From 3rd of Feb 2021.
Very nice
A couple of 10 year tourers
billy sugger.. have fun..
How did you get in with the road collapsed?
Good question! I had to redo an old video because of copyright bs. When is that road going to open? I think residents can still get access via the ‘Donkey Steps.’ There’s an eco tour company still operating using that access apparently…😀👍🏻
Looks great. What time of year was this mate. Reckon those creeks get up much further in early Dec time? Looking at maybe going then.
Just saw that next crossing on your vid and read their website and it says dry weather only. So probs not.
It was in August 2022, and it was beautiful. Summer would be better though. You can camp next to the beach. It’s a really spectacular location. 🤙🏼😀
Nice Job mate
Them bloody prado drivers 😂
Haha! But to be fair it was their parking, (not driving)-too near the water at low tide that caused the drama? 😁👍🏻
Funny 😂😢
How about reasonable speed limits. Police have already destroyed the reputation they once had. In covid. Time for police to make friends of the public
Yes VIC Police particularly were out of control during Covid? Also no speed limit on the autobahns in Germany? We just need better roads maybe? 🤙🏼😀
Can't stop a Challenger!!! Looks like a nice spot
Great video we just finished the beach track in eurimbula national park . Was similar to this one
Good on you and thanks Jim, I love that part of QLD. We did a track in Eurimbula as well but I can’t remember which one it was. 😀👍🏻
Thanks for the video - I did Helensburgh but will seek out the rest
Thanks, it is a great show! 😀👌
@@Challenger4WD i love it and refer it to everyone!
hey mate, did you have to fit a cradle to install the winch or the winch fit the arb bullbar without needing a cradle? cheers
@@angelogmuller no cradle required. The ARB bar is designed for a winch. When I fitted the winch to a tow hitch I needed a cradle but it’s much easier to just have a winch bull bar. 😀👍🏻
@@Challenger4WD beautiful! good to know, cheers mate
Stockton is great. I was there in August. This time in a volvo xc60. Did quite well until i realised i forgot to turn off the esc considering i had only 2-3mm of tread. Prior to that was about 20 years ago in a Jackaroo. 15psi is the preferred pressure. Just got to keep the momentum up in the soft sand.
went down there years go, when the supports for motor way were partially built , and the reo was bent over at right angle to top of pylon. after the Georges river had flooded.
@@luckyphil3999 1980 it was completed apparently.
😂
Good video Phil. Some familiar locations. I'm not sure if it's intentional or just me, but this video appears to be maxed at 480P resolution.
You’re right Greg, it was supposed to be 1080 HD but something went wrong. I’ll see if I can upload an HD version but I’m away atm. Thx for the info though 😀👍🏻
Love the video, as always Phil... beautifully edited.
Very nice thanks Phil. Looks like a lot of fun out that way
