In the last few weeks I’ve gotten a drone then decided to take a trip to Japan for snowboarding and then just stumbled upon this vid, glad I did too

Great job man. Just today, 9/19/24, I finally booked my first trip to Chamonix. I am beyond excited, and doing all the research I can. The Vallee Blanche is on the list of must do. I might get in touch with Tom. Thanks for some actual "ski-bum" personality, many videos are not skiers, just tourists. But oh well, I live in the mega tourist town of Breckenridge, CO, and see many people at least enjoying themselves. Again, great job, I enjoyed this video.

RE: your preference for a rustic, smaller hut experience at ~3:45 -- You should visit Mt. Hood Skibowl! There's a small hut at the base of the Upper Bowl that you'd enjoy! There's only 6 or 7 tables in the whole building, and there's a large central table with stools that encourages more of a communal experience! You need to go to smaller, less built out resorts to get that experience in North America, but it exists somewhere! Slow chairs at Skibowl, but great terrain!

why was there even a white line, in summer ?!

Worth noting that most Alpine ski stations are dedicated resorts, servicing thousands of holiday makers and with more miles of linked groomers , hotels, restaurants and bars. In North America they usually rely more on day trade from locals. Consequently the vibe is totally different (not to mention horrendous traffic on powder days).

I often skip cooking altogether and just live of PB&J tortillas and fig bars because I can't stand the freeze dry food, but this... this is a whole other level above the fanciest freeze dried meal.

Wow great video! The more I learn about other places to ski the more I appreciate having access to Whistler/Blackcomb.

Just updated our 3-week stay in Niseko to 10 days, added a few days in Sapporo & a week in Asahikawa because of this video & saved a bunch of money while visiting more resorts. Great information. Very stoked.

Excellent video. You hit the nail quite perfectly on the head re finding affordable accommodation near ski resorts in Japan. If people are interested in a less travelled part of Japan then I would recommend Morioka City, which is a fantastic, little city in Tohoku. In winter it offers pretty affordable accommodation and is within ninety minutes of Appi Kogen and Geto Kogen, which are two of the best ski resorts in Tohoku. There are also numerous other smaller resorts within an hour.

Awesome review. How would you compare this to the marker duke pt 16? The duke pt toepiece can stay on while touring…benefit?

If you find yourself back in western Canada check out the powder highway moutains in the Selkirks( like revelstoke, whitewater, etc). You won't be disappointed. As a local of the Vancouver area I find myself enjoying those over whistler.

Definitely need a snowboarding trip to Japan at some point! seems a little trickier to figure out the logistics that Europe though. Maybe next year to avoid the olympic rush

And be sure it's driving prices up here, affordable stays and food for people living here are disappearing as we're not all on our dream trip budget. I honestly wish we had separate resident and visitor pricing. I get it but it sucks. At least if you do visit don't be a loud drunk douche.

I think Morioka and Aomori would be good cities to add to that list. Lots of under the radar areas with great snow in Tohoku.

Wow, this video came just in time and with the right topic covered, too. Do you think it's feasible to drive out of Sapporo / Asahikawa every day? I want to make the most out of my stay in Japan and driving an hour forth AND back every day doesn't sound too appealing, especially after an exhausting pow day. Also, how's the parking situation like in these two cities? Free parking with the hotel room?
