Tokyo seems very livable when it's so convenient getting to the ski resorts. Just came home from two weeks in Japan. First week we took the train from Tokyo to Nagano for skiing, back to Tokyo, then flew to Sapporo. Everything went so smooth -- trains and planes were all on time. Carrying all the ski gear and luggage on the metro during rush hour on the other hand....
    Really enjoying your videos!

It is fun to visit Japan (and fine living if you are one of the lucky few foreigners), to be Japanese, not so much.

@@johan.mp4 Japan is getting older and older partially because young people dont have the time to engage in reproduction because of all the work. There are people who are dying young at their workplace because they are so overworked and suicide rates are very high. And if you are not Japanese, the japanese society isnt easy for you. Japan is not really open to foreigners. I wouldnt necessarily call it racism, but you will propably always be treated as an alien by some.

Please wear a helmet next time you go skiing; it’s becoming nugging dangerous without it. ❤ Besides that, I like this video. Even here in Austria, you must take a bus to transfer between train stations and skiing resorts, so this direct connection is fantastic!

Never been to Gala, I think next time I am in Japan I will try it just for the Shinkansen to lift novelty of it. I hope you had chance to visit Nozawa, my favorite place to ski in Japan
Btw that is a nice shirt! What is it?

Just came back from nozawa. Can't beat the free scaling onsen (and buying steaming bums directly as they come out of the steamer) after a day of skiing.
Though next year I'll probably go to hakuba or niseko for something else. Getting ready to be disappointed.

Sadly the combined train/lift pass offer is only for Japanese credit card holders. I tried about 6 UK credit/debit cards and it failed every time. I went to the tourist information office at Tokyo station and they said it’s only for Japanese cards

Gala is great because of the easy access by train from Tokyo, because belongs to the train company JR. Everywhere else in Japan is kind of really hard to get. That being said most of slopes are below 1000m, snow is not the best. I got a Gala season pass just because of the easy access. Now is cheap because the Yen currently is junk, like 7 years ago the one day package was $135, still quite cheap.

The problem is, it'll redirect you to the JR website which only works in Japanese as far as I know. So booking my ticket was actually a bit of a challenge.
