Silwen Cosplay

Приєднався 28 тра 2020
I am an award winning cosplayer with a specialty in sewing and Worbla. I first began to cosplay in 2014 with a purchased costume of Cinderella and a second of Sailor Moon. I quickly realized that, to get the fit and quality I was looking for, I needed to start making my own cosplays. Since, I have grown my skillset so that I now create costumes from scratch, including custom pattern making. I promote body positivity and mental health within the community, while also teaching others the craft of costume creation.
2025 Path to Crown Cosplay Update (October 2024)
Even though the hurricane caused some delays, I was able to get quite a bit of planning and mocking up done! I also tried a new fabric supplier, which I give my first impressions on in this video.

Hello! Given that this week was a bit wild with the hurricane, I will not be posting my normal update. Instead, here is a video I had ready to go that details my do's and don'ts for making an amazing cosplay build book! I made my first custom crinoline, also often called a hoop skirt. This is shaped to fit under the skirt of Giulietta's Ceremonial Dress by Sakizo. I'm trying to compete in the Crown Championships next year, so join me on the journey to creating the most complicated costume I've made yet! Question: Do you put your build book together as you create the cosplay, or when you've completely finished?
Good question! My build book is the last thing I make. It is a good idea to make one as you go, so that you don't forget anything you'd like to call out, but personally, I can't bring myself to focus on it until the end. I don't like interrupting my creative process to take photos/update a build book. That's actually why I started recording videos in the first place, to take screenshots for my book instead of taking individual photos.
Satin is a specific weave and so is crepeback I believe. It’s more about the look (shiny), while the quality of the fibers handles the feel. The fraying is its own mess that makes me believe it’s just generally poor quality. If the bridal satin isn’t working as usual, I’d especially stay away. Speaks to poor quality control at best and poor practices at worst. Sucks you lost all that crepeback satin money.
I was so surprised, I really thought crepe back was the safe option to try. I never thought it would be that bad. 😭
Those swatches seem so unprofessional. I like the amount but the fraying!!!! I consistently forget to order swatches and sometimes pay dearly for it
I'm glad I'm not the only on that thought so! And I am terrible about ordering swatches. I've been forcing myself to do so for this build and I am SO glad I did.
Glad to see progress!!🎉🎉🎉
I've never competitively cosplayed but watching this makes me want to get into it! Great video, very informative!
Thank you so much! I think you should give it a try! 🙂You will meet so many amazing people backstage and learn so much from them. And it's nice to have a place to show off your hard work.
@@silwencosplay I definitely want to once I graduate college in a few months and have more free time. Also, you should totally make a video on what makes a good competition cosplay, it sounds super interesting!
@@maeish9471 Keep me posted! I'd love to see what you create! And I've added this video to my to make list, so more to come! 🙂
Where is part 2
Hi! Thank you for your content. This was a project I started in the middle of 2020, and with everything going on at the time and issues the pandemic was taking on my mental health, I never got around to finishing it. I do want to start this project over someday, but it is not on my current cosplay build list for the next year.
thanks for the great video! i've never done cosplay before but watching you and all these other great cosplayers on UA-cam makes me think I should...
I'm so happy you feel inspired! I will always say, do it! At least once. You don't need to make your cosplay to start. I actually started with a purchased Sailor Moon outfit, then bought a Cinderella dress. Honestly, the main reason I got into making my own was that I needed to alter the purchased ones so much, it just made sense to start from scratch. And then I fell in love with it.
@@silwencosplay I already sew so I would make my own! just have to figure out who I want to be
@@clairewulf Keep me posted! I'd love to see what you create!
@@silwencosplay everything I make I put on this UA-cam channel 💗
Kirilee cosplay was the one with the idea for the photo in the back! I remembered because I also thought it was a great idea. You made a wonderful build book for a beautiful build! It was so helpful to have the compare/contrast with your prior book as well.
Yes! That was her! I'm hopping in to update the description now, thank you for letting me know! And thank you for your lovely compliment! I'm glad you found the comparison helpful. 🙂
omg yess so excited ^_^ gtg to bed so i'm watching this tmrow n comment then :P
Super excited for the skirt! I love how crinolines work.
It turned out so pretty! After such a journey! I feel you on the velvet creeping, it's such a pain. I've always found a walking foot to be an absolute godsend when dealing with that, plus careful basting. Good luck with the rest of the build!
Thank you! I need to get a new walking foot and try that next time.
i loveee this! im so excited to see u get further with this. you're great at this, glad to have found ur channel :)
Aw, thank you so much! Glad to have you here! 🙂
I’m adoring this. I was really worried with that first trim but the one you ended up with is perfect. And for future reference: You’re absolutely allowed to raise the neckline if you’re not comfortable or pull out something like a fichu. Might be a fun custom accessory for this!
I really wanted that first trim to work, but sometimes you just have to call it. And I'm so glad I did! I think this gold leather will also tie into the other leather pieces I plan to make. I'm going to see if I can work it into any other parts of the build. I think I will try to see if I can wet mold it without destroying the finish. It would be amazing to use it around some of those appliques. And thank you for the wonderful advice! I was trying to push myself out of my comfort zone with that neckline. 🙂 We will see how I feel as this goes on. A fichu would be fun! Or maybe some nude fabric to mimic the low neckline.
Sorry again you just talk and you show nothing. There’s people out there that would love to learn what you’re talking about.😢
I don't know if you mean for it to be or not, but the way this comment is phrased is very critical. If you want a certain kind of content from a creator, I don't think that's the appropriate way to go about it...
@@Ventura0404 Thank you for your comment. So, I have two types of videos that I make. I have the cosplay progress updates, which is what this video is and then I have my in-depth, tutorial type videos that show everything that I did and how I did it. The updates are general chatty videos where you all get to see me talk through my thought processes, mistakes, corrections etc. I'm able to post these on a weekly basis and keep my channel active and help keep me on track with my crafting. The in-depth videos take me so much longer to make, weeks to months depending on what I'm making. So the updates fill in the time between the other videos. I also post shorts in the meantime as well. I hope this helps! I will have detailed videos on the construction of the bodice, skirt, crinoline, wig, and accessories for this build over the next several months!
@@silwencosplay Like I said I don’t need it but it would be nice you give more information a little closer together.
@@TheStitchedSeal I’ve asked before I don’t need it. My thing is if you’re gonna talk about it show people. It’s not that hard.
素晴らしいコスプレ😊日本🇯🇵から
Oh that looks awesome!!
Thank you so much!
It’s weird how the fit shifted when adding the velvet especially by that much when everything still sits right… but I’m so excited to see how this goes! All the sparkles sound so fun.
Yeah, I have no idea! Maybe I missed a panel or miscut something. And thank you! It won't shine as much as Cosmos, but I think it'll still have a good presence on stage. 🙂
Even Cinderella's aqua cotton peasant dress in beautiful. Despite Cinderella not getting a new outfit, she makes up for it with different hairstyle and accessories. She used to wear her mother's sweet, flowy apron, then when she became a servant, she wore a darker, heavier, and stiffer work apron. Her hair went from having a variety of braids and hair clips to wearing a ragged cloth around her hair because it became messy. Her messy hair also gets a variety of styles. With Ariel, it's always the same thing with her dress. Doesn't her ending dress look like a bigger version of Ariel's daughter Melody's christening dress from the beginning of _The Little Mermaid II_ ? Weird choice.
lol, can’t even hear you. Do you need to check your volume?
Thank you for letting me know! I'm not sure what happened. But I republished the video and it seams to be working now.
Congratulations on your win!!! I love Sailor Cosmos and seeing the bits of your rebuild were so neat so learning you won was great! I’m also so excited for the upcoming Sakizo!
Sailor is the best pick.

Happy Labor Day Beautiful.
Well it is live action, so it's already kind of hated. Mainly what irritates me is how they blend together 'asian' to get a weird mix of completely unique cultures to get this 'oriental' vibe. This video essay is more focused on tue music side of things, but u can probably get the gist of it ua-cam.com/video/LR511iAedYU/v-deo.htmlsi=VJvRIka68S0S6-I0

Speaking as your fellow Mystic Guardian, cosplay partner, and friend: You inspire and amaze us with how you're able to bring these costumes to life in such detail. But just because you are a highly skilled and inspiring cosplayer, please never feel like you HAVE to compete. You've proven your talents a million times over. Go wear what makes you comfortable, be your gorgeous self, and enjoy your Dragoncon! Don't feel bad about competing or not competing in this or that, we love you regardless!!! ❤❤❤ ~Emily/ Hikari
I love you so much! You always give the best advice and your constant support means so much to me.
@silwencosplay I'm just glad to have such a such a great and talented friend to support. ^_^
As always, seeing your videos pop up on my UA-cam feed makes my weekend. :)
Do you like the video
Funnily enough, Ellen Mirojnick designed the Brandy dress AND the Camilla Cabello dress
I don't f-n know what the costumes in the Brandy film are suppose to be, but the ones in the Amazon film are very random and less than impressive.
Lily James is the best Cinderella. Her personality was so on point and endearing. And the dress looks so magical and stunning. The whole film was whimsical and beautiful while still being realistic and believable.
I do love Lily James as Cinderella. That is probably the best Disney live action movie out of all of them.
Arwen!! That’s a beautiful cosplay!
@@legolas_lover Thank you so much!
There’s also a Czech/German version of the Three Wishes for Cinderella (but it’s called Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella), the storyline is pretty much the same but it’s much older. The dress for the ball are not very special in my opinion but I LOVE her wedding dress later in the movie. Just saying, if you wanted to check it out 😘
she should def check it out! such a beautiful movie, a classic for sure
@@vandastejskalova6768 I will check it out! Thank you for the suggestion!
Ah, I love the Into the woods Cinderella dress, I'm glad you mentioned it!
Couldn't agree more.
I wanna watch the Norwegian Cinderella even if it’s August, idc
@@miticaBEP07 It's so worth it!
imo nobody beats lily james
@@sonbubs9513 I totally get it!
Ever After is my top favorite too with 2015 close behind that too. One of my other favorite Cinderella dresses that never gets talked about is Rodgers and Hamerstein Cinderella from 1965. I love the actors and all the other costumes along with Cinderella. I honestly wish i have ideas how to make her crown in that so i can finally cosplay it. I wish it gets more love. The slipper and the rose is good. Just that, she looks good and when Cinderella is standing next to her they're beautiful together but when she's in the room with all the other dancers her dress is a similar color and shape to everyone else that it just sadly blends in. But the characters and all the music numbers makes it's such a delight to watch.
@@annerogers6895 I will make sure to check it out!
The velvet and bows look great but I agree the underskirt isn’t really meshing. Re-pleating in a different way to fake the look you’re after (trying on scrap fabric) might also help a bit. But in the end…this isn’t something you’re getting paid to make, really. If you’re not inspired, if it’s not working, you’re absolutely allowed to drop it. It’s about you doing what you find fun!
Thank you for this. I think this is exactly what I needed to hear.
