  • I decided to redesign the famous curtain dress from Gone With the Wind into a historically accurate 1860's evening gown. This video details the skirt creation. I used the Truly Victorian 1860's Ballgown Skirt patter and decided to go off script for the bottom ruffle and design. I am still on the fence with incorporating some additional detail to make this as elaborate as the original design, so we will see how I feel once the entire outfit is finished.

    The velvet and bows look great but I agree the underskirt isn’t really meshing. Re-pleating in a different way to fake the look you’re after (trying on scrap fabric) might also help a bit. But in the end…this isn’t something you’re getting paid to make, really. If you’re not inspired, if it’s not working, you’re absolutely allowed to drop it. It’s about you doing what you find fun!
