I'm prepping for the MetroCon contest and I'm so happy to see another cosplayer in florida! Your build book looks so lovely and I'm definitely going to do something like that info bubble page for mine :)
Kirilee cosplay was the one with the idea for the photo in the back! I remembered because I also thought it was a great idea. You made a wonderful build book for a beautiful build! It was so helpful to have the compare/contrast with your prior book as well.
Yes! That was her! I'm hopping in to update the description now, thank you for letting me know! And thank you for your lovely compliment! I'm glad you found the comparison helpful. 🙂
Thank you so much! I think you should give it a try! 🙂You will meet so many amazing people backstage and learn so much from them. And it's nice to have a place to show off your hard work.
@@silwencosplay I definitely want to once I graduate college in a few months and have more free time. Also, you should totally make a video on what makes a good competition cosplay, it sounds super interesting!
I'm so happy you feel inspired! I will always say, do it! At least once. You don't need to make your cosplay to start. I actually started with a purchased Sailor Moon outfit, then bought a Cinderella dress. Honestly, the main reason I got into making my own was that I needed to alter the purchased ones so much, it just made sense to start from scratch. And then I fell in love with it.
Good question! My build book is the last thing I make. It is a good idea to make one as you go, so that you don't forget anything you'd like to call out, but personally, I can't bring myself to focus on it until the end. I don't like interrupting my creative process to take photos/update a build book. That's actually why I started recording videos in the first place, to take screenshots for my book instead of taking individual photos.
Do you always have to do a cosplay that has art? I'm planning to enter a contest with a Cherry Blossom Leafeon but there is no reference art. It's my own design
Excellent question! First you will want to check the rules of the contest you are entering. Some contests require established artwork of the piece to enter. Also, check if accuracy is part of their scoring. They will most likely have this information posted in their contest rules or FAQ. If it is part of their scoring, then they will compare your cosplay to the artwork and judge accordingly. If there isn't any artwork or reference photos, then they won't have anything to score in this section. Since it's your own design, I would recommend sketching it out or hiring an artist to draw it for you. That way you have a reference to include in your build book. (Though you can still compete without the artwork if you choose.) I hope this helps! This sounds like such a beautiful cosplay idea!

Question: Do you put your build book together as you create the cosplay, or when you've completely finished?

how do you make the format so pretty? I can draw but organizing photos and adding text evades me
I use Canva! They have preset templates I believe under their 'marketing book' section. It's a great place to start for formatting and layout!
@@silwencosplay oh, that's awesome! thank you so much!
