Top Man! great effort Marra in horrible conditions...aye summer will soon be on us eh...good times 🌞 Great to see you bagging them Birketts the very impressive Summit of Kin most folk just trip over it..Eskdales the place for Birketts you'll love them ones just like me rugged and remote...and never forget if the going gets tough ya can always rely on a ROCK STAR voice over 😂 Well done Lad 😊 Tek care stay safe ATVB 🙏🏻⭐
@@RockStar67 needed to borrow some audio.. nee chance I was gonna be able to speak up there 🤣.. havent started full time ont birketts yet but got some 'birkett only' walks coming up soon.. cheers lad, tek care
PS...love the new 3d flyovers at the start 👍🏻
Good walk in pretty decent weather overall. Always nice to hear and feel the snow crunching under your boots. Been on it a couple of times but always as part of a round. Probably not often walked for it's own sake.
@@gbfch fell on my arse couple times ont summit, tricky little plateau in the snow.. aye cant complain it's about as good a day I've had for a while.. cheers, tek care 🙂
Nice video Dave 👍
Cheers lad, tek care :)
well done, Dave, brutal conditions, but great to be out. I felt a bit sorry for Dave Allan though, but he'll probably embrace his new title well. You asked some good questions, why do we climb mountains? I think that's a very personal thing and we all have different reasons. For me, it's something I can do with Andrea and enjoy together. But also, I can't run fast anymore, play football or cricket, so hiking is a great outdoor activity that still carries a great challenge. There's also, as you said, a spiritual dimension to being in the mountains and enjoying creation. I obviously come from a christian perspective, but I really feel the presence of God in the hills and get great connection. So without being super spiritual, it has also helped mentally, spiritually, and physically to be in the hills, as I can switch off from everything else and just focus on what matter most - we've had a 2nd grandchild, Zach, get added to the family last week too, so there's always lots to be thankful for. Take care, peace, Ashley!!
aye spot on lad.. i bestowed dave with his title face to face so he knew this was coming.. i still haven't pinpointed the reason why i climb them personally yet i just know it feels the right thing to do.. i dont think im religious but you cant not think about that kind of thing when ya sitting alone in zero visibility, perhaps im being converted but theres no place id rather be than up them fells.. when im not on them im sitting looking at maps.. its a simple life but increasingly happy one.. Cheers lad, tek care :)
Well done Dave getting out in those conditions. Must be nice though having the fells to yourself at times! Its certainly a different world even though its only a couple of miles from civilisation. I agree your videos are an inspirition for people to get of their butts and get out there, ATB
certainly helps with the remote feeling when ya cant see keswick up there.. feels like an extreme place.. my only concern sometimes is if im the only one up there does that make me stupid.. but anyway we survived the wind... just about.. tek care :)
The time and experiences that a single soul occupies in the universe are desperately transient events, and it is the insignificance of the individual in the space and time that we occupy that gives our lives, characterised both by ourselves and the family and communities with which we surround ourselves, the ultimate significance and importance. I think sitting on a rock 791 m up and battered by the elements is a wonderful way to live!
aye i couldnt have put it better myself.. its a lonely ol place up there when ya cant see 5 feet away but gives ya time to consolidate thoughts and make good life decisions.. cheers lad, tek care :)
Ey up Marra, absolutely brilliant mate, so funny, I’m honoured to have a super hero name…..The Clagmaster, I need to get a cape! 🤣🤣 Me and Mossy are doing the Uldale Fells on Saturday if you want to join us. 😀🥾⛰👍
I could see your face looking down from the clouds like.. half tempted to get a microphone now as i had to throw away a 3rd of my footage on this one.. Cheers for the comment, tek care lad :)
@ I loved the voice of Andy on Grisedale Pike. Hilarious. 🤣
@@DAoutdoors too windy to talk i need to borrow some audio 🤣
Dave im so pleased you did do skiddaw and carry on the journey now sit down and dont get to excited 😂 you are a inspiration to watch and to have met my friend and cant forget the unique sense of humour brilliant stuff mate i too wonder what got me into the outdoors and really i think it was to get me out of the rat race of day to day life and just have me some chill time but the sense of achievement when i complete it is like no other feels like ive actually made the day count other than sitting around and ive told a few guys you mentioned here i would have done a few wainwright's but never planned to complete them its likes of you guys that spurred me on so cheers for that buddy aye dave allen eh spoiled the walk again shame on him i wouldnt mind a few of the foster sunny ones 😂😂😂😂 cheers dave pal
The frustrating thing is av got all these videos and experience now but STILL my day to day friends are not interested in joining me for one.. I feel they are firmly stuck in the 'Rat Race' as you describe it and rightly so.. I just hope that some of them realise it before its too late.. I like how you are doing them, just take your time... if i had done arnison crag i would have tried to pick up like 6 more on the same walk and nearly die of exhaustion trying.. your the way to go, just pick em off, camp on a few and enjoy it... Cheers lad, tek care :)
Dont get me wrong dave this year o have a few walks that will pick the miles up but aye just want to camp a few and enjoy the time got all my holidays at work agin now so should be able to spend a few days at a time down here thing is ive got wales and scotland to visit this year too lol hopfully we get a better summer this time around im looking forward to doing ben nevis again with our lass just hope its clear at the time and yeah sometimes folk leave it until its too late and thats why im happy i started sooner wish i had this way of thought in my 20s i would have done all the fells in a week 😂😂😂 keep going marra see ya soon @daveostlemountainman
Looks great! I haven't done this one. I'll have to look it up.
its worth it just for a walk down the valley, avoid weekends tho as it gets very busy.. cheers tek care
@daveostlemountainman Luckily I don't work Fridays so I tend to go to the Lakes then. Last Friday was great.
Brilliant dave and co looks a belting route up mate im looking forward to wondering this area mist likewise in summer now but again brilliant showing the way the look back down the valley was brilliant and at least the views opened a little for you loving the Freddie take 😂 nice one mate and I hear everyone saying they struggle with o.s maps I don't use it myself I use kamoot and it's never done me wrong yet so maybe jump ship 😂 see ya soon buddy
av just subscribed to os maps.. allows me to put those 3d fly throughs on my videos but aye there is a lot it doesn't know which i found surprising.. ya gont go wrong with a walk in langdale like.. 4 of 5 superb options and plenty spots to camp high or low.. cheers lad, tek care :)
@daveostlemountainman yeah I like that 3d show around it's a good feature like you say your cheap sort the job out for them lol hahaha
The song made this video! Thanks Dave! Enjoyed your very warm Kentmere video yday planning a few for the next few months. Reckon you might go and do Mosedale without a knackered ankle again sometime? Maybe add the Pillar high level route after your recent Sca Fell bravery it's epic standing at Pillar Rock!
aye mek sure ya take plenty water.. theres no refill points up there apart from a muddy looking puddle.. yea i need to refilm mosedale on a nice day.. im a bit nervous about walking near pillar rock because my brain will convince me to try and free climb it and i know thats not advised so to make life easy i just avoid the area haha.. cheers lad, tek care :)
Turned out nice again 👍a good walk with friends 👏the burst of energy near the top !!! Summit Fever 😅 take care
aye its weird that happens.. getting near to the top my energy bar just for some reason refills.. pleased i got somewhat of a view.. al take it.. cheers my friend, tek care :)
Another great video, looks pretty cold mind. Well done!
yea i dont normally get cold but was pretty freezin by angle tarn.. i need some better gloves.. them sealskin ones are useless for keeping hands warm.. tek care :)
Great video Dave . Thanks for the shout out for the group fundraiser I'm not a camper but will be doing a hike on the day somewhere in the Borrowdale/Derwentwater area .
cheers lad, yea i am adamant i will see this one through this year.. looking forward to the meet and greet the morning after.. should be a good laugh.. tek care :)
Nice hike Dave 👍
cheers lad, tek care :)
Enjoyed that Dave …. Good on you for giving a shout out about the wild camp…. I’ve got mine booked for this year’s… take care & stay safe on them fells 👍🏻
yea its a great cause.. i think i am capable of doin great sca fell.. its a nice easy one to get to with plenty of water near by.. just hope we get decent weather like last year.. tek care lad :)
Great hike pal
Cheers ol boy aye, really enjoyed it.. just focus one one single fell.. tek care
Great vid Marra. Glad you got some views. We’ve been up pretty much the way you came down, to bag a couple of Birketts. Guess there’s no getting out of the charity wild camp thing now 😅
aye well i said it on a video last year and still bailed out on it.. i think i should be able to manage great sca fell tho.. plenty of water near by and a nice flat top.. av already done them birketts so just bypassed em this time.. cheers lad, tek care :)
Ey up Marra, looked a great day. I’ve done that route a few times, but the other way round to what you did. That traverse path is a little sketchy. It’s easier to follow taking it from Stakes Pass though. Shame I couldn’t make it, but contrary to popular belief I do have a job! 🤣🤣 All the best mate Dave 😀⛰🥾
i didnt plan on going that way at the beginning.. was gonna head up to bowfell but was in full clag until we got back to the care and it was clear, naturally.. nice weather this week but obviously on the days am working eh.. cheers lad, tek care :)
Looks a challenging route and tricky terrain well done on this one I've yet to even do one but looks totally worth the time for the Views.think the driving time would of added to the lag also.i will be glad to do Ben nevis this year hopefully.
its not that bad of a drive really... i like to set off at like 3 in the morning when theres no traffic.. easily get there in 3 hours.. i need to go back and do this one again cos i missed out on the final munro cos i was dehydrated haha.. tek care :)
Was half expecting a skinny dip in the tarn lol. Great route but for me I prefer Anticlockwise if I can get out of steep climb I will always choose easier yomp
al be tekin ma speedos int summer for yan aye.. cheers my friend, tek care :)
Yes we actually out our grandson overnight and had to take him to school, which is why I could not attend and looked a real wintery days hiking for it too. I hate that Wrynose Pass road but have to do it again (yikes) as I have another 3 to do there, thankfully, I can do them all together. Nice flat walk up and a rocky assent but I think I will be doing Rosset Pike and Bowfell (both of which I need) to the warmer and drier weather. That was a bit of sketchy descent mind and even more of a sketchy voice too! Still, a good walk out and some great views, cheers Alan
aye would have been disappointing for ya as bowfell was in the clag the whole day hence why i didn't bother going up there.. it cleared when we got back to the car naturally eh.. aye a couple more hours of daylight and you will be able to get round bowfell, esk pike and rossett pike comfortably i think.. cheers lad, ill let ya know next time were out.. tek care :)
Nice intro bro
Cheers.. took all of 5 minutes to knock up on AI music haha... tek care :)
What a walk, some scary moments. I think Yewbarrow is my nemesis as I've been putting it off for ages. Someone told me it isn't as bad as Eagle Crag but it looks it but I enjoyed EC. That Kirk Fell descent looked hellish and seen off your two walking pals.
i think there is an easy way up and down yewbarrow but being as it was the end of such a long day i hated every moment of the fell.. al revisit on a nice day to make friends with it
Well done on finishing them off so quickly, I've 51 left to do although I started hiking 14 years ago. I didn't initially set off to do them all but when I counted how many I'd done I thought I might as well do them. Hopefully finish'em this year!
Cheers lad.. aye time has flown since this last one.. i felt a bit lost after completing but the outlying wainwrights are worth a look at once ya through wid those.. still havent wild camped since this tho.. was bloody freezin.. tek care :)
@daveostlemountainman My initial target was to do them all so I've probably done some outliers already like Black Combe and Muncaster Fell. It's the crap roads that's the hard part.
@@Wukkie. yea there are some dodgy roads.. a large chunk of em are just off the A6 but i found nobody does those walks so getting there early enough you wont encounter much if any traffic
Nice one Dave, I know what you mean about the confusion. I thought I was at Lingmell Col about 3 times😂. Congrats on making it up in such energy sapping conditions. All the best out there brother ⛰️😁🥾
Cheers lad, aye i really enjoyed myself tho very energy sapping having to lift ya feet up twice as much each step.. one to revisit in the summer i think.. tek care :)
Another great video of yours, we have watched them all. Your new theme tune is brilliant. Hopefully one day we will see you as we are always out, we only live near Whitehaven. Look forward to the next one
Thank you aye am sure we will cross paths.. must be decent living in Whitehaven with Wasdale on ya back door step.. very convenient i always think as i drive round there.. my local fells are the northern ones.. not as exciting.. thank you for the support, tek care :)
Super video Dave. I tough ascent for sure. Ive only ever come down that way but even going down theres a few steep scrambly sections. Ive missed out not visiting Gavel Fell on my visits. Shame the clag was in when you were at the summit but at least it cleared on St Sunday. ATB
yea am not having much luck with these birketts sadly.. its a much easier path up and down to sunday crag via gavel too.. maybe its the more commonly used one but i normally just go direct up and down the rocky crag.. one to revisit.. cheers, tek care :)
Nice route there Dave, thanks for the shout out mate😃. I was on Low Fell at the weekend and noticed you'd gone through the Wainwrights in 36 walks. Did you get them all done? There are some tough ones in there. All the best out there brother🏔😃🥾
aye nice comfortable one for a change.. nah i used 52 walks in the end, some of them on the site i was following were way to massive to enjoy, for me anyway.. i started the series on low fell.. need to revisit it for round 2 and pick up the birketts of that area.. cheers lad, tek care :)
Great video Dave. It's brill you're still doing some wainwright's, sometimes with different routes as it makes for a different walk then. Nice to see you follow black crag and hiking with Tony too, 2 of the others we follow as well. Keep up the good work.
aye ya cant beat a bit of ol black crag.. this year im mainly focusing on birketts which will revisit a large chunk of the wainwrights.. still 170 odd left of them but al keep chippin away finding new routes... thanks for watching, tek care :)
Nice video Dave 👍
Cheers lad, tek care :)
Lovely vlog and views
Cheers, they were better than forecast so id tek anything this day.. tek care :)
Nice video, Dave. You had some decent conditions up there. Quite often, you have to just get out and ignore the forecast. Nice to see Mary and Derek out with you as well. Keep at it.
aye i dont think am going to look at the weather again... just get up and go when i can, enough excuses.. they are good company, mary can talk for england like 🤣
Ey up Marra, well done mate. Who needs weather forecasts, pity you didn’t get the views from Gavel Pike. That’s a Birkett I’ve yet to do myself. All the best mate 😀⛰🥾
the path up to the birkett is miles safer than the direct route anyway.. especially for coming down on.. another one am gonna have to revisit... neways, cheers lad, tek care :)
Well done lad...aye 🙂
cheers lass, cracking day oot.. tek care :)
You should be proud of them brother it's a effort climbing them never mind filming, climbing up the back down for the camera maximum effort 😂 I appreciate the videos good sir helps plan my routes
Cheers for the support lad.. I overthink walks and forget why i am doing them sometimes.. clag doesn't make a great video but they are good memories and its good to get out with other people for the crack... tek care :)
@daveostlemountainman it's not just the views people tune in for its youe personality, get them shared on the group hope the channel blows up for you this year
Really nice walk in a lovely area. Not been up that way. Pity about the mist but the fells are still enjoyable even in those conditions.
@@gbfch aye I think I spent all my clear sky luck on scafell the previous week.. not to matter was a nice comfortable walk.. high recommend the route up.. cheers lad, tek care 🙂
A Derick route.....yikes! A favourite walk of Mrs Metalman, same high path but we drop down to Silver Bay for lunch and then the low path back to Patterdale. Shame about the view from the Knight, real misty and dam blustery as well and Place fell was not much better. I bypassed that short cut last time and after all the times I have been up to Place Fell the first time I had found out about the bypass, which was a lot more civilised. Cheers Alan
aye am gutted av never had a view on this fell.. i need to go back as am picking up birketts this year and theres 4 or 5 others on the way to howtown.. derrick still mentions taking you up barf, i didnt detect any remorse in his words haha.. cheers lad as always, tek care :)
You are indeed very optimistic! 🤣 I haven’t watched a video of yours in ages, blame the algorithm, anyway, I got a few minutes in and was thinking I’m sure he doesn’t have a moustache usually. 🤣 old vid. Clag… yes, but always nice to get up there. That’s what I tell myself anyway
