Followed your way up Newton fell North yesterday. What a total bloody nightmare! I think I found a few places where you had beaten down the bracken but generally it was like thrashing through the Amazon jungle without a machete. The worst walk I have ever done and something I hope never to repeat. There was no way I was going to stumble down through all that bracken so I headed on south and found a clear, easy path down to a wall, turned left and picked up a gravel track by the reservoir This led to a road with a lovely big parking space 100 yards further on. None of this is on Wainwright’s map but doing it this way you’ be on the top in 15 minutes with only an occasional tickle of bracken on your knees instead of your head. Probably too late now as I doubt you’ll be going up there again. I certainly won’t.

haha, im glad to know someone has also suffered here.. cannot be walked very often im sure.. i did consider going down via the reservoir but i wasn't 100% sure if it would get me where i needed.. ive yet to read Wainwrights book on them as i didnt want to be influenced in how i feel about each fell but i will have a look once complete.. might be a nice walk in winter and whitestones is worth a larl visit.. cheers lad, tek care :)

74 miles to get there, it's on your doorstep lol but I am with you on those narrow roads in the Lakes, my fingers are always crossed I never meet a tractor coming the other way. I know you said the views from these were not the best but the view at Humphrey head over the sea was sensational. It is nice to see it is not only me who gets trapped in head high ferns lol! Yes, not easy, not easy at all and I also saw the Fatboys doing this walk as well. Not the best Fells for views (Humphrey head apart ) but at least you kept dry on this one, cheers Alan

@@AlanMETALMAN the places I'm being dragged to to complete these outlying Fells are a different world to what I'm used to.. I spend half the walks cursing wainwright but what he must have done for the tourist board of Lakeland is immeasurable.. cheers as always lad, tek care 🙂

Morning Marra. Bloody hell mate, what an adventure that was, some cracking views though. Looks like they are fells to be kept for the winter or early spring when the bracken is not there! Haha

Other than Humphrey Head more fells that are unfamiliar to me. Think it was Heysham nuclear power station you were pointing out.
Pleasant countryside down there round Grange though perhaps not the bracken infested slopes round Newton Fell North. Interesting device for spotting distant fells on Hampsfell - haven't seen anything quite like that.

yea not a set of fells with the best of views to be fair but interesting things to see up them.. newton fell might be fine in the winter on a frosty morning when the bracken is dead but i like that wainwright took time to visit these areas that give different context to the higher fells.. yea ive been told its heysham power plant by some others, stands out very prominent.. thanks for watchin, tek care :)
