Bloody hell no rain unusual for one of your outlying fells and that good weather stopped with you too (opps). One thing I never expected to see on the fells was a bath and a bath just sat there all by itself as well. Opps I had to mention the good weather, suppose it would not be an outlying fell without a bi of rain, which reminds me not to do them! Cheers Alan
if ya want a little taste of them after ya wainwright 214 are done, id definitely recommend these fells.. well worth the very little effort, couple larl tarns for a swim too.. aye the rain had to mek an appearance at some point.. normally doesn't bother me but this was wintery cold stuff.. cheers lad, tek care :)
yea brilliant walk mate, might have took us 9 hours but because it was relatively short we were able to just sit multiple times for quite a while and enjoy the weather.. thanks for watching, tek care :)
Just seems like an epilogue to his lake district (214) journey.. written when he was much older supposedly walks for 'old men' and pensioners.. Focusing on the fells on the outer rim of Lakeland.. I dont think they are included in the 214 because making it 330 I personally think would put many people off from trying to complete them.. Cheers lad, thanks for watchin, tek care :)
If we sink we sink end of series 😂😂😂😂 brilliant im still giggling about the facbook post you made that hike seem exciting..painful..wet...dangerous....life threatening....happy... depressing....all at the same time love it dont think any one else on youtube has your cheerful but whity humour mate brilliant always love your vids makes me smile before i press play as i no something is coming something of i dont no great mate smashing these rigjt of with mr hewitt good stuff lads canny day it looks here also dave as always YESSS keep it up lads love it 😂
this walk in particular was fantastic Lee, am sure ud actually enjoy it if you fancied a break from the 'big' ascents of the main Wainwrights.. plenty of time to chill and have a fag and mebbe even a bit of a swim here.. but yea, the shap fells are now complete so hopefully i wont have anymore depressing commentaries on these outlying fells and i can 'enjoy' myself from here haha... thanks for watching lad, tek care :)
Really pleasant walk that in nice weather (mostly) and lovely views on the way. Shame about High Knott but certainly not worth the risk. Doe seem a bit over the top mind - a searchlight at night? - still it's his land. Looking forward to the next batch.
aye its a questionable one, just not worth the potential hassle.. i believe the monument was vandalised at one point so the farmer just banned all from it or so the story goes.. nice walk otherwise, thanks for watching :)
Nice walk and a vast improvement over slogging around the Shap Fells (but then what isn't!).You can get right up to the final enclosure on Williamsons Monument from a different direction on access land.I'm told is possible to slip under the wire and get to the summit but I couldn't comment lol. Anyway it counts as a completed round without that one because of the difficulty of access.
yea there are multiple ways.. wait for night, wait for a claggy day etc.. i just know how my luck goes... if i tried something sneeky al be caught and thrown in jail, i just know it haha.. plus besides the fell looked like it had a heard of bulls surrounding the cairn and i dont fancy fighting them for access.. thanks for watching, tek care :)
Back lane from Staveley in a storm in early December worked for me. The landowner is based in Langdale and moves his animals off in winter. Just a thought. 😀
Nice walk Dave. I’m planning on doing the western ones next year, including Williamson’s Monument. I know someone who lives in Staveley, so asked if they know what the likelihood is of having the hounds released!
I've read many posts on forums, some who have even asked the farmer directly but apparently he said he doesn't own the land.. just lots of jumbled up information.. there were a big heard of bulls surrounding it i could see on Saturday.. i dont think i have OCD so it wont bother me.. i got a picture of me pointing at it, that'll do haha
Well done both Daves your both an inspiration making fast progress on the OLs you've sold this one to me I've got plenty to keep me going and not looking forward to the bog fest on shap Yuk but hope to get in dry weather which could take longer than expected lol. Did you deliberately not salute with a brew on the first of the day? 😮
I am enjoying these fells.. Ive barely seen anyone else on the walks ive been doing the last 8 weeks.. very few of them I will revisit in my lifetime but they are worth doing at least once.. Its costing me views on youtube cos not many seem interested in them... they are not 'fashionable' but ill persist.. thanks lad, tek care :)
Nice route Dave. What's with that wall over the crag 😂. We often look at the walls up the really big wainwright's and call them shitty job number 6 etc. Who builds these things? That larger tarn was really nice. Cheers Mark
aye great walk for everyone this.. i could talk about walls on fells all day, they are sometimes more fascinating than the hills themselves.. its just a time that i find hard to imagine the use of such things to need to be soo high up and who were the poor sods who carried the stones up let alone construct the things.. ill look it up one day, gather some research and maybe write a book.. thanks for watching, take care :)
@@daveostlemountainman Yeah, some of the walls are crazy. And like you, I'm fascinated by the history - well, the stories - behind them. For a long while I was just curious, but then I saw the wall that runs from Scoat Fell, over Haycock, and out to Caw Fell and onward - The Lonsdale Fence, they call it. That one goes over a few crazy lumps too. Must have demarked an estate back in the day.
@@auxbuss yea its specifically the one next to caw fell that i was kinda referring to in this video.. it goes right over a massive crag, much bigger than the one i went up on this video.. just feels like so much unnecessary work, just build round it for the sake of 10 sq meters of land..
Had no idea Williamson monument was restricted 😮 we parked up not far from the farm, walked right through it and then up to it, we was gonna do it as a single, but we could see the other 2 so we went to them climbing over the walls 😂 didnt see any signs 😮😂
oh really, i might have to go have another look then.. ive read numerous forums that mention multiple signs.. maybe they have been taken down since... cheers ill try get it done :)

Nice hike and video Dave
Thank you kindly, tek care lad :)
Ey up Marra. Nice one, a lovely part of the Lake District. Just typical that the rain had to move in just before you finished! Haha
Great walk mate.. Makes up for the Ulthwaite Rigg nightmare, highly recommend ya give this a shot, ya wont even need spare socks!.. :D
What is an outlying Wainwright?Just fells near Wainwright's that are not Wainwright's?
Cracking video as always anyway 😊

@daveostlemountainman never dreamed of doing the 214 but they sold them as well I won't feel completely done till the 311th summit
